    A lot of people use a windscreen cut from a disposable baking sheet, which would cut the weight way down. It only needs to be the height of the stove and wrap 3/4. Evernew is a nice setup. Not horribly expensive for titanium. Nice stove no doubt.

    I’ve been using this stove for 10 yrs now. It’s not used heavily but it is used. Took me ages to be brave enough to use twigs in the stand, given the cost etc. But we only have one life!!! I do have other stoves but the Evernew Ti fuel stove is my fav. I love the smell of it as it’s burning away. The DX stand is lightweight, but it works and I enjoy using it. I’m a bike packer and keep my kit weight down. I’m looking forward to this summer and using it again. Thanks for the vid.

    There’s a lot of love for the Trangia burner, I’ve had one for years (two, actually!) and of course they’ve been bomb proof and great. I have also the Evernew DX set, and I certainly prefer the latter in terms of lightness of weight and performance. Nested inside a 550 Toaks cup it’s hard to see the advantage of carrying the additional unneccessary weight of the Trangia for no practical benefit, but that being said I don’t put as much fuel in as you did, and let the burner extinguish itself rather than try to pour out residual fuel. Good kit.

  • @Ra-zor
    @Ra-zor 5 месяцев назад

    Roll up carbon felt and put it inside, then use ethanol as your fuel. The carbon felt soaks up the fuel making it virtually un-spillable in your pack, knock it over and it wont set the whole place on fire (no liquid to spill), and methanol is much cleaner burning than kero or other fuels as there's virtually no carbon. Just don't over fill it to the point you over saturate the felt and have liquid sitting on top!

    In the 80s I carried my Coleman Peak 1 multi stove on a 2 week hike on the Long Trail in VT. I had about 2 pints of Coleman fuel with me. Many nights I would get comments about why I carry the weight. My answer was I'll never have issue like I have witnessed with the little canister stoves at the time. Long story short, guess who have the ability to cook or bottle water while a bunch of us were cooped up at Taylor lodge on Mt Mansfield. As their fuel ran out, I boiled water for those who apologized for their comments. It was a long walk back to the valley for them to get new canisters.

      My response to those who comment on the 'extra weight' that I am carrying (whatever it may be) is, "I'm carrying it". Agree .. rather too much fuel than too little. I have a special soft spot for 'White Gas Stoves' .. mine being an Optimus 8R Hunter which I bought new in the early 80's and still use regularly.

    Esbit Stainless Steel Stove and Pot Stand is similar in that a Trangia burner fits without that ring for Trangia Triangle. 2 heights for burner or fuel plate is made in Titanium is main difference. I have the Esbit.

    I bought a complete Trangiaset (the biggest) for 5 euro!! in a thriftstore, good as new, verry happy! Been testing it next to my others and it works very well like all say. This comparison was interesting to me since I am building several burners and want to use some vintage veggie-graters as diffusers, didn't know how that would work but now I see this Evernew so I'm even more excited about the idea.

    If you're using the stove outside you must almost always use a windscreen. To have a windscreen as part of the stove is a big plus.

    I have a Trangia and use it in conjunction with a U.S. GI canteen cup and stove. This works well and is compact. I fuel mine with HEET, automotive gas line antifreeze. It's methanol and burns very cleanly and leave no soot.

    Nice, i might not have used floating rope on the ends as many are not weight tested. Just some 10mm climbing cord. (If you want 10mm) Maybe it was a reflection, but when the camera points towards your knots inside.. is there small hole in the end of the boat at the top? 🤔 Looks good though 👌

    • @jamesbarrett1647
      @jamesbarrett1647 9 месяцев назад

      I mention the rope not being weight tested. This might only be an issue in moving water conditions, For example: Unpinning the canoe, you'll have 1000kg+ pulling on that loop. Something to think about, depending on your adventures. 😊

    • @bannister-lifeoutdoors8004
      @bannister-lifeoutdoors8004 6 месяцев назад

    Oh dear, the power drill on the canoe thing. Relaxe I just took a dremel to one of royalex canoes to V out frost cracks. I was puckered the whole time. Next was skid plates. 80 grit to roughen up the surface. The way the sand paper roughed up that surface, dear lord I kept repeating to myself. On skid playes I used kevlar felt, 2 inches wide at one end and 4 inches wide at the other. 30 inches long dry. Once the epoxy was soaking in and I was pressing out air bubles the wet length became 30.5 inches. I had to do some hasty surgery on the tape up at the 4 inch end to get at more royalex instead of masking tape. I used Gflex 650. Long pot time provides time to for little changes. Expensive for skid plates but I already had it for crack repair. If you need to repair cracks I would now advise to use the Gflex thickened epoxy, its like tooth paste. Would have made crack repair a lot easier.
