Jake, as a bulls supporter, I have been critical of the system. Yes, the bulls have shown massive progress and played in two URC finals. Well done. But... building a formidable team with springboks and NOT winning any major tournament's is a failure. Jake deserves credit, but winning cups is the goal. Good luck with the season, and pls should you make a final again, win it this time.

We are conspicuously creatures of great paradox, and perception, as the principal faculty. Habit is concomitant with that great paradox & associated perception; which drives our need for iether avoiding pain or seeking pleasure.😊 Mastery is about overcoming our destructive habits aka our vices and/or addictions and/or flaws, and realizing the full potential of our discovered paradoxical attributes in the process, ie. Harry's "fixer" potential and real value.

As a fellow ex stutterer from the age of +- 8 to 23 I know exactly how you feel. I was also a prefect and rugby captain. Due to the stutter people tend to underestimate you but it also has consequences for you. I never said a poem, gave a class speech or read out loud at school due to the stutter. I did however zone in on math's and succeeded at that. At 23 I decided to join Toastmasters and gradually by forcing myself to speak to large audiences I overcame the stutter as you described by changing certain words and approaching the sentence differently.

That's why we need alignment camps before we start out, but honest alignment camps, not camps of the Kamp Staaldraad variety. And here we need a facilitator like the Doctor (an experienced interrogator, if you like), and not a Straueli in the macho mould. There is so much bull-shitting and dishonesty when it comes to matcho "men" and Staaldraad divided rather than align. Rassie cries when he tells you about Mapimpi's past. In fact crying has become a popular pass-time exercise of rugga buggars. It has become cool. Eben shed a tear in Mbombela.

Outstanding interview! Fascinating to hear John's take on so many matters regarding rugby and he certainly got me thinking about quite a few things. I also appreciated MW's way of asking a question and then allowing his guest to speak his mind without constantly being interrupted. In the end John could respond in full and by doing so also related most interesting incidents from his past to explain his point. Thanks MW and John for a most interesting and informative chat.

Said it before and i will say it again (Stormers) supporter, Bulle biggest downfall is the media- they are extremely average. Push Jake cause hes a bulls.. talker

All had a good match, but biggest positives: scrum dominance, loosies excellent and Wiese and Boeta stepping up big time. Only negative: the last 20min or bench not having a bigger impact, same problem as last season. Somehow need to find, develop and grow a BBB = big bulls bombsquad. But who?

Bulls still cant play a 80m game same as last URC season. The inability to close of the game is what cost us games

John is old-fashioned 😅

Manie was the first five-eighth when the 7-1 was introduced against the All Blacks, 35-7! But i like Manie in his Spencer/Larkham mode. Manie doesn't need to play in SA's national team. He's a great asset to the Stormers and he can't go on the northern hemisphere tour because then the Stormers will not make the URC playoffs. The coach can take Jordan, Pollard & Sanele, there's Siya as well.

Listening to Chaka Willemse and Lood de Jager on the Box Office, line-out interpretations are for highly intelligent players, the research they have to do before a game, the ability to change a call when they analyze the set-up of the opposition. Respect to Victor Matfield, Lood and Franco Mostert that makes it look so easy.

We learnt that Erasmus is not picking anywhere near the best players for his squad. Too many players not getting a look into the Bok team while others seem to be selected no matter their form or ability. (I am look at you Moerat and Libbock)

Interesting how good the audio quality is for this interview (we could almost hear the questions!?) was compared to the audio & visual mess that Rugby SA produce for the boks press conferences.

Jake explains challenges they as coaches/clubs have managing players, especially internationals, very well; must be a helluva business! Very nice though the respect shown by guys/coaches like Jake for the Boks & international players.

Fantastic show again. I absolutely love the way that the analysis, insights and the way that the 2 of you complement each other - my favourite rugby podcast by a mile.
