Well, it's been another couple of weeks with no sun and just dull grey skies, but today the sun FINALLY breaks free (albeit very briefly), so I head out with my gear to my local nature reserve, Granllyn Pool in Guilsfield, to try my luck at finding some Goldcrest, as well as see, photograph and explore this new to me location.
Hope you enjoy the video, if you did, please leave a like and subscribe for more videos 🙂

Klasse Aufnahmen vom Rotwild (deer)
Another lovely video 😀. Some great shots of the deer! 😀 They look wild even if they are slightly captive 🤔😀
Jo, you need to find somewhere more open, or prune around a perch you like and go back. There are countless locations where bird lovers place seed, often on a daily basis, I know it could be deemed cheating, but if you photograph on the approaches, away from the seed you can get closer. I did this, ruclips.net/video/cYjNRxQ1oh4/видео.html , from a car park. Oh, and it didn't look like the sun was out long, typical UK.
If you are right handed turn the gimble to the other side and use your left hand, hope this helps. Merry Christmas.
I've started using back button focus, I find it much better. Love your channel only found it today. X
Another nice video. Been from Northern California and the Western United States., it's always a little odd to see your wildlife reserves are surrounded by so many houses. Anyway, merry Christmas to you and your family.
Hope you have a wonderful time this festive season as well 🎄
That looks to be a spot that deserves multiple trips. I think you could really get some exciting photography done there. Thanks for letting me tag along!
For sure! And being so close to home that will be nice and easy to do, got that goldcrest to photograph and want to get some more images of the long tailed tit too 👍
Sweet
Thank you 👍
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it 😁
@JoHeard enjoyable and informative
Another great video thanks for sharing. Long tailed tits are my favourite small bird. I managed to photography a baby one in the summer. Really in joying your videos it’s inspired me to make some more. I have been away from RUclips for a bit sort of fell out of love with it.. you are getting some great shots! 👍🏻
Oh wow that's amazing! They are such beautiful birds and I will definitely go back to try and photograph them again 😀
@ good luck… the more you photograph wildlife the luckier you will become👍🏻
Finding peace of mind watching this video. Thanks for sharing! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed watching 😊
Sometimes it's more valuable to capture the behavior of the animal, like the mother pheasant trying to prevent her chick from running off, impossible to convey in a photo. Well done!
Thank you 😊
Nice one I carry a nut feeder with me
That's a good idea 👍
may I ask ur tripod?
It's a 3 legged thing, punks, Travis, it's pretty old now, but they have other similar ones 👍 I take out the centre column when using the gimbal head 👍
@@JoHeard my tripod just broke, so I was looking around for tripod/heads and that's how I found your blog. I do wildlife and birding (mostly owls) and looks like it's so hard to find stuff in budget. I just watched your gimbal head video, but then couldn't decide for a tripod. Thanks for answer!
Hi Jo lovely video of you out and about photographing the birds in this little local reserve, I know sometimes when you go out it can be tough to find the birds/wildlife sometimes you have just got to photograph what wildlife there is and sometimes it's nice to find yourself having to create creative images out of a common garden bird. 🐦 I did have a chuckle though when you mentioned seeing people carrying their cameras on the tripods and that you're a bit hesitant carrying yours over your shoulder, I have to say I do this a lot, but only dropped it one 🙄👍
😂 Oh gosh! Least It's only been the once .... it doesn't help that the tripod I am using, with the centre column removed, the legs get tangled up on themselves 😂 I did have a great time out, and I am really happy with a couple of the blue tit images I got. I am going to try and set up a bit of a garden layout in the new year, and set up some nice photo spots I can use.
@@JoHeard sounds like a plan, Yeh in my garden i have just introduced a bird bath/reflection pool using a boot tray from amazon, at the moment I have a grey squirrel, half a dozen black birds, goldfinch, greenfinch, dunocks, robin, blue and great tits, magpies, ravens, coming into my small garden everyday, I put out mealworms, nuts and sunflower seeds hoping to get some shots in the reflection pool soon once they get to use it. Good luck with your project and looking forward to seeing the results. 👍
Oh wow sounds amazing! Reflection pool is a great idea 💡 👍
Some good looking birds. Nice vid. Checked out your gear list & noticed your long lens is not listed. Good looking dog!
Glad you liked the video 😊 and thanks for the reminder to update my gear page!
Lovely video! Some great shots of "traditional" Suffolk wildlife- the Muntjac 😂. Very common here in Norfolk (and Suffolk). Love your relaxed style of video 😀
😂😂😂 Glad you enjoyed watching 😊
ust found your channel 😀. Love your relaxed style of presentation. Look forward to seeing future videos! I got my first (good) photo of a Goldcrest this year (UKs smallest bird). You should maybe have set up near the Yew bush/tree or was it Leylandii(?); I think they like to hang around in evergreen trees (in my experience of them 😀). Good luck in future outings and Happy Christmas!😀
Ah I see, thats a good tip, I shall do that when I go again for attempt 2! 😂 Merry Christmas and happy new year to you too 😀
Some nice pictures Jo. I was there myself not so long ago and surprised how close you get to them . All my pictures were hand held but thinking of trying a monopod for my walkabouts.
Still working on my muscles to be able to more easily handhold that lens 😂 I think whatever set up you go for there is a bit of a compromise, but I reckon the monopod will still be nice and portable and is a setup I will try in the future.
Excellent video 👏 big fan of your photography ❤
Thank you Simeon 🙌
yawn yak yak yak 😩
Its pronounced blue tit, not yak ...
Haha the 3P's is something that I still need to work on! Hope you have a lovely time this festive season 🎄
Nice video again Jo. I look at my bird photography just the same way as my fishing, sometimes I catch a huge fish and other times I catch nothing. But its still nice being there. Have a lovely Christmas.
Indeed! I really enjoy just getting out, so the photos are a bonus 👍
Lovely video Jo. Always an uphill struggle at this time of the year. The first Blue Tit shot from the bridge, with the tripod, is a real cracker! Merry Christmas to you and yours (if you celebrate it, of course). Look forward to seeing more of you in the New Year!
Thank you 👍 I am really happy with some of those blue tit photos. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and happy new year 🎄🎄
What a pleasant talented person. Where’s Skylar? Best Regards.
😂 she'd have been a nightmare! I took her out for a long walk when I got home to make up for going out without her 😂
Lovely video thanks for sharing though out the year merry Christmas and happy new year xx
Glad you enjoyed watching 😊 Hope you have a wonderful time this Christmas and New Year 🎄🎄
Nice shot of the Fieldfare, they're attracted by the apples both on the trees or dropped on the ground and it's well worth spending time waiting for clearer shots. You've had a productive and busy year and I've enjoyed watching your videos- looking forward in seeing your channel next year.
Thank you 😊 Looking forward to what 2025 brings!
Embarrissing. The title gives the impression the vlog is about photographing. Unfortunately you and only you are important instead of making a vlog about photography/nature. Stopped this vlog already after 1 minute. Terrible.
I did photograph a tiger, but I didn't think that was worth putting in the video...
I liked those views of some blue-tits sitting among the branches. They're quite colourful.
Thank you 😊
A lovely video. Thanks for sharing it.
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Merry Christmas Jo to you and all your family, thanks for the last 12 months, lovely video as all ways mate take care of yourself stay safe hopefully see you again out in the new year
Thanks John 😊 Hope you have a wonderful time this Christmas and New Year 🎄🎄
Nice one again Jo nice images Happy christmas
Thank you 😊 Hope you have a wonderful time this Christmas and New Year 🎄🎄
Hi Jo, first time watching one of your vids. You managed to capture some great images. I just subscribed. (Oh and happy xmas!!!!)
Thank you and welcome to the channel 😊 Hope you have a wonderful time this Christmas and New Year 🎄
Nice one Jo,it,s not easy trying to get the shot you want all the time..lol ..Merry Xmas to you an yours, stay safe. cheers Den
Thanks Den 😊 hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New year 🎊🎄
Dropped the ball on this one and completely forgot to add my EXIF data and species names to any of the images 🤦🏼♀️ Doh!
Great video, I was just wondering what exposure settings captured. I have the sigma 150 - 600 f6.3 at longest zoom and just wondering what your iso was when it's overcast sky's 😊
Was still an enjoyable watch. 😎
Good luck with the kingfisher not easy! I have watched your vid where you visited otterbourne so I know got the shot.. Much easier there😂. Thanks for sharing your photo trips👍🏻
Yeah without a hide it is quite hard, though I will go back when it's dryer and try again with the camo netting and see if I get lucky 🤞
Another like from me.. I need to get out and take some shot of the local rabbits! I think I will wait until it warms up a bit! Keep up the good work..👍🏻
Haha yeah that's a good plan, it's pretty cold and incredibly wet here at the moment so not ideal, but they are a pretty good subject to practice with 👍
Nice video!
Thank you 😊
@JoHeard 👍
Love your videos especially your energy & enthusiasm, however you may want to be careful photographing Kingfishers especially by their nest site which you said you would like to find as they are a protected bird & disturbing them near their nest site is I think a criminal offence & you need a licence. There are a few like that & I think Owls are another one. I could be wrong but better safe than sorry. Keep up the great work. 👍👍
What a great video, just found your channel & subscribed. Keep them coming. 👍👍
Thank you 😊
Another great video.. Love a stonechat.. great colours stands out well against the green background.. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you 😊 they were really nice to photograph,a very obliging subject 😂👍
Nice, do you think the hide sheet makes much difference? And how can you see what's happening? I might get one ;-)
Yeah it definitely helps, they are not the most skittish birds pheasants, but I think they'd have avoided me without it. They just got on with their normal business and ignored me mostly. So it's like a net, with the 3D camo on top, so there is a bit of moving around to find a good spot, but you can see through it 👍
🙏🙏
Thank you 😊
very nice
Thank you 😊
Its so nice to see the video. My old sprocker spaniel FLO was dieing before 2 Years. It was the best of all my dogs i have had int the life. 😍🥲
They break your heart don't they 💔 I cherish every moment I have with Skylar and I am blessed that I can capture all these memories of her on camera 📸
Nice relaxing vid. Nice work on the content.
Thank you 😊
We had Maze in the field this year, awful smell when they fertilised it, then very little wildlife interested in it, so pleased to go back to wheat for next year, plenty of pheasants, crows, and a few buzzards plus deer again.
They didn't fertilise this lot, thankfully but I'm sure when they replant for grass (that's what they did last year) they will then and it'll be a bit pongy... Not sure if they'll then plant the maize again after they've had some cuts of hay off it.
I majored in Squirrelese in college. I'm a little rusty, but I think they were saying, "nom nom nom."
😂😂😂
