#292 Winch Trial
This is about time to show you the winch in action. Overall, it works great. I like the feature of unspooling remotely. The only detail is that it's really heavy.
Come along in my typical day out in the woods...

#291 Grapple VS Hay Bale
Просмотров 4848 месяцев назад
We store a few big square hay bales in our dry box for Amélie's horse. Then Amélie prepares small hay bags to feed her horse in the other building where she has light and plenty of storage. So I have to move a big hay bale every 3-4 weeks from one shelter to the other. The grapple is more than ideal for the task!

Part 2 of the logging winch. Assembling the main transmission and testing the electric clutches.
#289 Logging Winch
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.9 месяцев назад
I need a logging winch to use with my tractor. I could buy one, but I won't be happy. I want it to be remotely controlled and capable of controlling the spooling AND the unspooling action. And yet, to be driven by the tractor PTO. And to suit my needs, 3-ton pulling capacity would be plenty enough for my small 35hp Case 430 tractor. So I decided I would make my own version of it!

#286 Digging a Ditch, Dump Trailer & More!
Просмотров 860Год назад
I dug this ditch last year, but without a light slope, it's hard to maintain using the lawn mower or even the offset flail mower. So I remove dirt to have the desired slope. Moreover, I need a significant amount of dirt for the next project (wife's project!). Let's put the new dump trailer in action!

I need a dump trailer, but I don't have time to make one... So the project is to update the hydraulic valve to have a float position

#283 Summer Is Here!
Просмотров 389Год назад
Here is a quick update of the most recent project. Heating the pool! I've installed a titanium heat exchanger (salt water needs titanium over stainless steel). It's a 360k BTU heat exchanger. It's well suited for our pool. We've gained almost 40°F in 24 hours. Yes, the water was just above the freezing point, to begin with.

#280 Excavator Updates

Here is an update of the modification I did on the excavator.
#279 The Snow Roller
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.Год назад
I make a snow roller to maintain the trails. It has nothing to do with a lawn roller, being 42 inches in diameter, it can efficiently roll through a thick layer of snow. I use salvaged 11R22.5 wheels to make that contraption.
#278 Plowing with an Excavator? Of course!
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Год назад
Is an excavator any good in snow? I am hooking the snowplow I use with the tractor using the SSQA adapter. The snowplow is 7ft wide and the KX40 can handle it very well! I take advantage of the long arm to reach the top of the snow bank to knock it down. I also offset the turret to push the windrow further.

      @FromSteelToWood Месяц назад

      Not quite sure if you refer to the very small blue tube towards the end where I reassemble the carburetor's butterfly, it is LockTite. I don't want any screw to be swallowed by the engine... There was another bigger blue tube, it's a gasket sealant. Not quite sure I used it at that point. Thanks!

    • @FromSteelToWood
      @FromSteelToWood 7 месяцев назад

      Bonjour et merci! Je passe environ 30 cordes (équivalent à 30 cordes de 16 pouces). C'est environ les 4 rangées de 18 pieds de long, 3-4 pieds de large, 5 pieds de haut. Mais par contre, il faut savoir que je brûle du sec et du trempe. C'est aussi du petit rondin, allant de 2 pouces jusqu'à 5-6 pouces au plus. Et souvent du bois de 2e grade, pas très sain. Et puis une bonne partie de résineux au travers. Bref, de la scrappe! Sinon, si c'était du bois franc, sec, de bonne qualité, ce serait probablement environ 20 cordes. Si vous voulez m'écrire, je peux vous en parler plus sur mon installation. (joe.lesage@hotmail.com). Merci!

    • @FromSteelToWood
      @FromSteelToWood 8 месяцев назад

      Hello Mike! It's indeed 100% white ash. Maybe one maple that went down while it got entangled in the felling tree and some black ash too. This is going to be at least 80% maple when I am done. The ash is getting now seriously attacked by the EAB. That area could be one day a maple grove, there is plenty enough maple for that. Thanks!

      Yes sir! Sliding doors on the inside and it works very well. You might also notice the angle iron at the base that guides the door. Then in the middle, you can also add a rubber to avoid the snow to come inside. Only downside to it.... you cannot store anything on the inside walls next to the doors that is not self standing! No hooks there for a shovel! Thanks!

      Hello Mark! I do have a lot of white ash. 3 years ago, the ash were not infested yet. Now it is starting to kill trees. Two years ago, I spent half a day with my wife marking the trees that did not have leaves in it in August. Now I can spot them by the holes the wood peckers do in the bark. The more it has, more likely it's dying. In that portion of my land, the majority of the trees are maple. So I simply cut all the ash trees. Thanks!
