1980 Yamaha RD400G Restoration
This is my Canadian 1980 Yamaha RD400G.
It is very much similar to the 1979 RD400F Daytona Special.
This is just a quick video to show the overall condition and location of certain bits and pieces before I completely disassemble the frame for media blasting and painting.
I am trying to determine the correct primer, paint and level of gloss for the frame, wheels and other parts for a show worthy paint job.
Please comment and let me know what you did!

Here is a short video where I show some of the tools that I used to rough trim the fiberglass cabin top for our group-built Van's aircraft RV-10. I used an angle grinder with thin cut-off wheel as well as a flapper disk to remove a lot of material very quickly. My first aerobatic maneuvers in an Extra 330SC with an ex F15 pilot. They look pretty mild but they were spectacular from the front seat! Ultra low level run was amazing! 200 mph at 15 feet above the ground! It feels awesome to do your first loop and roll!

That will be a 3J7 model I guess, which will have the 2R9 engine and exhausts, so a better bike than the US 2V0 models in many ways. Look forward to seeing updates as your restoration progresses, as I have literally just commenced the restoration of a 3M4 RD400F myself.
I feel bad for whoever was running the lawn mower. They're going to get blamed for the noise somebody heard two counties over.

I wish I paid more attention to the tour I was given when I was in Scouts. One of our scout leaders used to work there, so before it was demolished, he gave my Scout group a guided tour. I took a piece of coal from the conveyor belts and brought it home where I stored it in a mason jar. I think I threw the coal away months later.... I really wish I kept it, but alas I was only a boy at the time. I remember the cargo elevator, it was huge, the whole group fit in it, many floors in the plant too. I can't remember all the details now, but I remember seeing the elevator, some workers in blue coats, and many many pipes throughout the plant. I remember watching on TV the 4 "Sisters" smokestacks being demolished. Only 2 stacks were ever used - the other two where not equipped with scrubbers if I recall correctly, therefore where never used hence why the tips where still white and clean. Watching this made me sad a bit, I wish it was still there. Exploring it today would have brought back so many memories.
