RC Stories
Канада
Добавлен 19 дек 2020
“More real than real.” This famous quote from the sci-fi classic Blade Runner could be the motto of scale RC model builders. I love seeing good scale RC driving video and not being sure if I am looking at a model or a real truck. I’m fairly new to the hobby but decided to mix my new interest in RC with my passion for photography. RC Stories is about challenging myself to tell fun and compelling stories featuring RC cars (scale trucks to be more precise).

Forest X Chill with the SCX24 Deadbolt
My family and I spent a week in the rainy interior of British Columbia, Canada. A (large) group of friends booked the Wild Woods Cabins in Golden for a late fall getaway. Our cabin driveway had a border of nice rocks which the Axial SCX24 Deadbolt got to play on one evening. It was raining lightly (not snowing though) and the light was fading, but we got some quality cinematic footage of this tiny, capable rock crawler.
This was my first time travelling with an SCX24 (I also brought my Jeep JLU) and was quite happy I did. Two trucks, transmitters, batteries, chargers, and tools all fit in a compact plastic bin. Due to weather and group commitments I didn’t drive as much as I wanted to-anot...

SCX24 Hobbywing Mini24 and Furitek Micro BEC - RC Stories Garage - Episode 21

Correction: At 1:47 I mention a Mod 0.5 pinion gear and I meant Mod 0.3 (the stock spur and pinion pitch). Also, I keep call the Hobbywing ESC a Micro24, when its name is Mini24. This video was supposed to be about installing the all new Hobbywing Mini24 ESC and 1621 Brushless motor combo in my Axial SCX24 Deadbolt to replace the Firma 8A 1/24 Brushless Combo (mostly because of its underpowered...

What goes UP must come DOWN! Element RC Ecto Rock Crawling
Просмотров 91910 месяцев назад
The Element RC Ecto visits the boulder piles at Harvie Passage. The large limestone and quartzite blocks here are cemented together as part of the low-head damn floodway conversion. A roll-over here can send you tumbling into the icy cold water. The Ecto did so once, but luckily, and comically, landed bobbing on an ice flow with one wheel still grasping at dry land… ruclips.net/user/shorts5n3w4...

After a hard day of work on the land the Kyosho Blizzard takes a relaxing drive in the forest at dusk, its tracks floating effortlessly over the snow. We love when the world is coated in a fresh blanket of snow. The forest is quiet, except for the wind in the tree tops or perhaps the call of a raven. Makes you forget the cold. Cinematic RC Off-roading! Winter Solstice with the Axial SCX10 III Jeep JLU

Nights are long. Days are short. The sun is low. It’s winter in Canada. We still don’t have much snow accumulation though so the Axial SCX10 III Jeep JLU Rubicon is hitting the trails, and the ice, for some Winter Solstice fun. We went back to 12-Mile Coulee, where we recently filmed with the Vanquish VS4-10 Phoenix. It’s nice to track the changes of the season. I’m sure we will be back here ag...
Relaxing Ice Crawl with Vanquish Phoenix! RC Trail Run

Just a little trailing video exploring the frozen creek in 12 Mile Coulee. Shooting here got me in a contemplative mood which comes through in the editing. I was thinking about liminal spaces: those often uncomfortable places (physical or psychological) of transition between one state an another. Like a truck poised on the edge of a decent. Committed, it can no longer go backwards, but it has n...
Sandstone Cliff Rock Crawling! Element RC Ecto
Просмотров 60911 месяцев назад
Ecto takes on the local sandstone rocks. The Bow River is still super low, providing excellent access to this area. There is still a lot of mud on the shore though, making rock crawling (and filming) a slick proposition. Went old-school for this one. Shot with the GoPro Hero10 for the first time in a long time. It was nice having the lighter, more maneuverable and rugged rig, especially on the ...
The Art of Trucking! Element RC Sendero HD looking smooth on the rocks

The Element RC Sendero HD dances over the rocks in the fading light of dusk. I went down to the river to film rocks and this truck kept getting in the frame. Just kidding. I wanted to slow it down for this one and provide a meditative experience. Slow motion, a locked off camera, and shallow focus all help. It’s like we are making art! Sweet bit of running!
I'm always up to the RC action video🍿📺 Good looking car and nice action video👌👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
I always forget to throttle out in those situations! I think it's because I am so used to going uphill more often then going downhill. As always, love watching your videos! 👍
So true! The forward weight bias of the Deadbolt is naturally quite aggressive (the skid plate is further forward than most SCX24s), and the way I have it setup the balance is 63% front and 37% rear. In other words, it climbs well, but descending is sketchy. When it starts to tip, nothing is holding that rear down so throttle is all I’ve got! I usually aim for 55/45 for a general purpose truck (my Phoenix), and 60/40 for an aggressive climber (my Ecto). I’m planning to put rear under drive in the Deadbolt which will help drag the rear end a bit on descents.🤞
How did you get the clear windows??
The 1/18 scale TRX-4M Ford Ranger High-trail comes with clear windows. The 1/10 scale TRX-4 with the same body style comes with painted windows.
The mytrickrc came with the cords with contoller to run on my battery
Great build video! I just subscribed to your channel.👍👍👍👍
Awesome thank you!
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!
Those are some nice upgrades
Yes they are. Of course, now we have snow so it might be a while before I properly test them on the rocks. Or maybe not 🤔. One never knows around here.
Still using the stock dig servo here on the Bronco, I found it to be the endpoint adjustment on the stock controller that gave the funky shift (reverse to unlock) so threw it away and have used a GT5 without any issues since and I use the dig feature every outing. Nice motor that 👍
Interesting. Even with a programmable transmitter I could not get the DIG to a predictable state (on my Jeep either). It also gets a lot worse in cold weather. I’m glad the stock micro servo works with DIG for some people. I was just impressed with the quality of DIG on the Vanquish Phoenix VFD-Twin transmission and enjoyed the challenge of getting a full-size low-profile servo fitted to the SCX10 III chassis. I have the DIG kit ready to install on my Base Camp and notice that Axial really changed the shape of the cog teeth for that version of DIG (more teeth with a chamfered profile). The Wraith DIG also had a much better looking DIG design. The SCX10 III is the worst in my opinion, with engagement only every 90° and chunky square teeth. If I was a machinist I would turn a new DIG cog, but alas I am not.
I like the fusion pro to,Nice video good job 👍✌️
All Hobbywing products are good, but the Fusion Pro is just so easy to install and have a clean setup. Its programmability is great too, though I wish it had Bluetooth. But really, once a truck is dialled I rarely change ESC settings.
Man love the intro! Love the fusion!! That’s one of my fav scale rigs!
Ya, the Bronco was an instant buy for me. The intro was fun to make. Took a bit to get the audio and video synced, but it worked.
I changed steering servo in mine and lost some trunk to right the servo arm hits panhard mount
Ya, there is not much clearance there. I had to try several servo horns before I found one the right height (the first I tried scraped the frame rail when fitted to the Shift RCs X2 Servo). I’m using a Boom Racing 955014BK (20mm) and I get full lock left and right. You might try alternate horns to find one that doesn’t hit the upper panhard mount.
You could also run a hobbywing esc for 45$ with a furitek motor
I ordered the hobbywing combo for 70$ usd and lgrp sells a motor mount for 10$, you can convert the pinion to 0.5 mod and also change your transmission gears to .5 mod for 10$ on Amazon also the program card was 10$ for me in the states, sucks that it’s more expensive in your country
Your videos are great! Nice job awesome editing
Awesome video that bronco is really nice 👍
Thanks! Love that old Bronco body. In reality it’s the turquoise RTR colour, but through the magic of cinema it was orange for Halloween.
Hey! Just found your channel by pure luck I’m always looking for Canadian rc channels and there not that easy to find ! As soon as I read your description I’m subbing you ! I’ll check out your videos !
Awesome! Thanks for the sub. Here are a few of the Canadian RC channels I follow (well-known and lesser known, mostly scale and crawler oriented): youtube.com/@scalebuildersguild youtube.com/@rcarty419 youtube.com/@gcmracing1 youtube.com/@2011rcqc youtube.com/@cwr2011rc (Scale Town RC) youtube.com/@one10hobbies72 youtube.com/@kpoprc youtube.com/@damedcamera (RC Athletes)
@ frig eh I didn’t realize scale builders guild was Canadian! I will check out all these channels! Thank you
This only works because you used wrong paint. If ypu use the right paint. It aint coming off
Yes. I believe that is what the video says.
Big changes , looks good , I like my yellow jlu and have a few good free mods for it too😊
You're back, cool. I recently built a spare parts "ecto" for my brother in Calgary. I also recommended your channel for places he could use it. Have a great day.
Good to be back! Haven’t been out driving as much as I’d like but have at least been able to work on some trucks. I do need to get the Ecto out soon.
@ I like the Ecto body so much I put it on my VRD
What about running the spektrum motor into the quicrun?
Thought about that. The Firma system has bullet-connectors. Hobbywing uses a plastic three conductor connector which I can’t immediately identify. I’d need to cut the wires or make an adaptor. Also, the Firma motor is sensored while the Mini24 ESC is not sensored. I’m sure I can run the Firma motor without the sensor wire, but I’ve never tried such a setup. If swapping the ESC had been a plug-and-play solution I probably would have gone that route. But since the HW Mini24 and 1621 motor will eventually find use in another truck I decided to keep them as a set.
@@rcstories_cawhich channels do the two ESC plugs go to?
Great video and awsome explanation!
Glad you liked it! I had not seen any install videos of the Furitek Micro BEC (or any BEC in an SCX24), and since Furitek provide no instruction manual, I thought I would put this quick illustration together.
Happy Halloween! 🎃
Have a scary one!
Awesome bronco Happy Halloween! 🎃💀👻
Thanks! You too!
Nice! I went with reefs for my 1/10 scale crawler when it came time to upgrade the steering servo. Awesome video! I love this series.
Right on! I have used a half dozen Reefs servos and never had a problem. More recently I’ve been using Shift RCs in my 1/10 trucks. I especially like Shift RCs direct power servos. I’m a little worried that their servos have been out-of-stock for a while. I hope they recover and get some new stock available. I have one of their Nano M servos that I would like to put in my next SCX24 build.
@@rcstories_ca I know how that goes. I've dealt with the same thing before. I just looked on Ebay and saw a couple brand new ones. Not sure if they're what you're looking for, but I hope so.
Beautiful video! I’d love to trail this location.
Awesome video!
Outstanding video!! Just the crawling. Awesome! Now, which motor/ESC you have? The Fusion PRO FOC 2n1 or the stand alone, separate ESC w/ the 540 spec?
Ecto is rocking a Hobbywing Fusion Pro 2300KV 2-in-1. I prefer the 2-in-1 for the space saving, though I have installed the separates in a few builds. I try to always have the truck specs in the description. ;)
@@rcstories_ca ok
Definitely worth removing the bec as you can run higher voltage with the hw bec.
Absolutely. I pulled the Traxxas BEC out when I installed the Hobbywing Fusion. I often get nervous about running BECs at high voltage because I usually have other electronics installed in my trucks. In the case of the Sport, I have the lights and the winch. I just checked and the Traxxas #2255 400 oz. servo can handle up to 7.4 volts and the Traxxas winch accepts inputs anywhere between 5 and 12.6 volts. I really should increase the Fusion BEC voltage then. My current preference, for demanding steering situations, is to use a direct power servo and bypass the BEC issue altogether.
Great videos, I hope you're doing well. Have seen any videos from you for a while.
Thanks for the lovely comment. I took some time off from RUclips. getting back to the RCs and more content will follow (weather permitting).
Subscribed. Very cool truck!
Is it just me, or does the action figure look like Lance Hendrix
Yes, that is Lance Henriksen as Bishop in Aliens (1986). Bishop is our shop mechanic. A bit quirky, but a hard worker.
I’m thinking of buying the Ecto to turn it into a comp rig but idk great vid it helped a lot and we should definitely see more of the ecto
That’s what I’m currently doing and it’s fantastic, even out of the box.
Best place to buy those tracks pls dude ??
Try your local hobby shop or Traxxas.com (MODEL# 8880)
So you can run 7.4 volts to light module no problem?
The esc relays the battery voltage to the light module. So yes. You can even run 12.6
Thanks was thinking of running a fusion se in my trx4 sport high trail with winch kit couldn't figure out what voltage it would take if I could run it directly off the battery by soldering a jst lead to the power wires on the power wires but I like that balance Port option
Do they even make this anymore? I've been looking for a NIB and every site I find is either sketchy or like the majority states back order out of stock.
The Blizzard and Trail King seem to have seasonal availability. By mid-winter they will be out of stock and don’t seem to come back until the following late summer. Ditto for parts. I just checked kyoshoamerica.com and Amain and they both had it in stock today. We just got our first snow so mine will be out driving soon! Cheers!
Thanks for video. So when using this setup you dont need the bec for servo?
Correct. The Hobbywing Fusion BEC is much better than the Traxxas BEC and can takeover the job of powering your power-hungry servo.
HI! Thanks for the video! Please, i need to know where do you find the front bumper metal hole for winch wire! I can't found it :( And rear bumper one? Wich part is please? I like it too! Thanks in advance! Very nice crawler.
Sorry for the late reply. The aluminum fairlead #42127 by Associated/Factory Team seems to have been discontinued. Other colours may still be available. You might try a local hobby shop to see if they have any left in stock. Unfortunately Element uses a much wider fairlead than most other manufacturers, leaving us with few aftermarket alternatives (Traxxas and Axial fairleads are too narrow). The rear bumper is a Vanquish VS4-10 VPS10122 front tube bumper installed in the rear (the Vanquish bumper slips right in the Element Rear Bumper Mount #42001 which I think is already installed on the truck). I added the rear bumper so I have a rigid chassis part to grab back there (the rear cage/bed is very flexy). I think it looks good and doesn’t interfere with ground clearance (in fact it is less likely to hang up than the tube cage). I love this truck. It’s my favourite out of all my trucks and I keep debating wether to get a second one (Titanium this time).
Mine works the same but my turn signals are reversed now that I have the hobbywing motor installed
Because the stock motor is a reverse motor
Sorry for the late response. I just haven’t had time to check my truck until now. I do not have a problem with the turn signals. They work as they should. Are you still using a Traxxas receiver? The motor/ESC should not affect the turn signal function. I prefer to use a TQi receiver with the Maxx Link Cable for communication between the receiver and lighting module. This way I can use a Bluetooth module in my TQi transmitter and get full remote programming of the lighting functions. Regardless, there is no app function to reverse the turn signals. I have never used the Receiver Communication Cable that plugs into channel 1 and 2 of the receiver. If you are using a TQ (or third-party receiver) and the Receiver Communication Cable, check that your wiring is correct. Refer to the PDF manual at m.traxxas.com/sites/default/files/HKC20008-R04_Pro-Scale%20Lighting%20Module%20Installation-WEB-EN.pdf The other thing to check is your distribution block wiring. Pay particular attention to the turn signal jumper plugged into E or F (depends on your model). Again, refer to the manual linked above. I hope this helps. Let us know if you’ve figured it out.
The Ecto is so good , great video 😊
This is stock electronics?
Sorry for the late reply. The Blizzard is still running the stock ESCs and motors. I switched to a Spektrum SR515 receiver and use channel mixing achieve tank steering. It’s not ideal, but I can’t film a drive with the stock stick transmitter.
Hell yeah!
You are under rated, the quality of these videos are amazing! Keep up the good work👍
😊
How’d you get the LEDs off the bumper? I’d like to use them in the headlight Thanks
The bumper LEDs are held in place by little plastic clips. Gently bend the clip back with your fingernail or a small screw driver and pull out the LED bulb. To use them as headlights you will need to devise some mounting method and a way to extend the wires. You really need the wire to run to the back of the truck, near the body hinge, and then forward again to the receiver. If you don’t extend the wire it will interfere with opening the body to install the battery. Or you can just use a MyTrickRC light kit. I do understand wanting to reuse the stock LEDs and have used them as SCX24 rock lights in the past!
AWESOMENESS!!! thank you for sharing this with us!!! 😎
Very informative and well explained. 👍
I know it is a old video but thank you very much, I have accessories in my TRX4 needing that extra power plug. I was wondering what I was going to do if I go the fusion route and now I have found the answer. :)
