How to find the snow BEFORE you go snowmobiling. Where to ride your new Ski-Doo. @skidoo

A couple of apps I use to decide where I'm going to ride. Where is the snow? What does the weather look like in the riding area? What is the avalanche report? I answer these questions, and give you tools to have a successful day on the snow.

    Any thoughts on the secondary rollers breaking. Poo riders point this out as a major issue.

    • @SteveMartin12
      @SteveMartin12 День назад

      I’ve honestly never broken a secondary roller. I see a few posts during the winter about some breaking. I believe the roller material changed for ‘25. I really believe it has to do with how you go from forward to reverse, and vice versa.

    • @bigchaloopa
      @bigchaloopa День назад

      @SteveMartin12 Not sure if OEM has better material but I know aftermarket has it. I tend to agree, the Operator, in angst of trying to get unstuck is full throttling back and forth. Most stuff turns to shit in the hands of the uneducated public. Thanks for sharing 👍

    You would think the company that has to honor warranty claims would do everything possible to increase the longevity of their motors. Why buy a $20k sled and try to save $20 on oil?

  • @Mystic-l3r
    @Mystic-l3r 5 дней назад

    Do you think ski doo actually makes oil

    • @SteveMartin12
      @SteveMartin12 5 дней назад

      The difference is simple. After market oil is formulated upon general industry standards. OEM oil is designed upon the specific needs of the engine, with the addition of additives formulated for performance, fuel economy and reliabilty.

    Remember, when reading the avalanche forecast, read the entire forecast. The rose compass is important, but below you can read about the exact problems, size of the avalanche to expect and many other things. Forecasters do an amazing job at giving you the whole picture. Make sure you all take a minute and really read through the entire forecast report for the day.

    Hey Steve, This was a fantastic breakdown of not only the ‘25 sleds, but it also provided a lot of clarity between the Summit and Freeride models. With that said, if I was looking to get my first sled to primarily for purposes of using it as a chairlift to go skiing but, knowing myself, also to do some jumps and drops and generally race around the backcountry, which would you recommend? I’m already thinking something with a 165 track length if I’m getting someone to double me to the top (I assume 175 is only for competition hill-climbing), but would the Freeride provide better stability while doubling given the wider track width or should I look at the narrower Summit? I should also note, I do not have any interest in seeking out technical hill climbing or side-hilling. Thanks, - Colin

    • @SteveMartin12
      @SteveMartin12 23 дня назад

      Yeah the Freeride would offer more stability due to the wider ski stance. A lot of my friends that sled ski, ride the Summit X 165, more maneuverable, and easier to access the backcountry.

    You know what’s crap for 23 and 24 GEN five skidoo summits. You can’t stop the track some ratcheting. 20+ thousand dollars for a sled and skidoo will not fix it so you have to pay even more money. I personally feel like it should be a recall.

    • @SteveMartin12
      @SteveMartin12 Месяц назад

      I really don’t know the metrics for initiating a recall. It definitely was an issue, from an increase in HP and traction over the past few years. It’s always been, that if you have significantly ratcheted your track, the drivers were compromised, so I am always very diligent in maintaining proper track tension. If you can’t stop the ratcheting, even with the updated drivers, I would have a good look at the condition of the rear skid, especially the rails, make sure they are straight. The updated drivers have been a huge improvement, between last winter and so far this year, they aren’t as sensitive to track tension. Thanks for watching 👍
