I had a tough time sealing the front engine seal on this one. It turned out to be the engine oil pump. Even though the oil pump was doing its job, creating sufficient lube pressure to the IH 414 engine, over time it became too comfortable and got out of line. Episode #2 finds me installing rod and main bearings in the Pinocchio looking tractor. I find broken pieces in the oil pan, also I'd be lying if said I enjoy the rooster in the background.

We put this IH 3588 on a rehab plan when it hit rock bottom with a locked up fuel pump not long after it dropped a valve and plugged an injector.

Sorry, I think I meant wet packing.
I hace a 1066 that leaks a little oil around the exhaust manifold where the horizonal section joins the vertical pipe. I read some where that this is called wet capping. Can you explain to me whay causes this seepage? Thanks

Did you cut counterbores or was it not necessary?
I convert reverse hardware back 56& early 66 series & weld 86 series linkage plate to early linkage plate.
That looks like quite a job didn’t know that was possible I’ve got a set of 06 ‘s 7’8 and 12 and some other ones but the 3 have been my dream team you could say. Well that looks like a real pain in the ass
I have a dual speed pto in an 806 that needs gone thru. Never done one before but it doesn’t look that bad to do. I need to change the 540 shaft as well. Mine has a slight twist to it. The square baler I had it on last year had a catastrophic failure on the plunger and I thing that’s what messed up the 540 shaft

Thanks for the video. I been dreading doing out 886 that has been down for 3 years now. Just haven’t had the time to do it and can’t afford tge dealer witch gave us a ruff quote of $15,000 to put in a new ta, mcv pump and fix the actual problem of the reverse gear and I believe it be the park gear? Is stripped off. Im sure its a hard job and this video kinda gives me more confidence on how to do it. We have split the tractor for a clutch so we are ok doing that. Ours has a cab do you recommend taking the cab right off to get to the top of the transmission or is it better to leave it on the engine to get it rolled out from underneath the cab then take it off? Thanks for the video
If you have to get to the park gear the cab will have to come off and the differential pulled out to get access to it. If you are just doing a TA you can get away with leaving it on.

I was going to change the antifreeze in my 986 and I told Napa I needed a sca or dca antifreeze and they sent me a OAT antifreeze would that be okay use I think it’s a zerex heavy duty extended life?
Get the coolant filter with the sca additive and you will be OK.
@ so I can use the heavy duty extended life and just change my coolant filter to a sca filter? I checked PH level of what’s in it and it’s 8-9.

sorry on the ( 966 startup , second tractor in the shed ) an injector? or in value train. goes away as it warms up.

The larger oil pumps used on the 1066's were there to handle the extra oil flow through the piston coolers. The blocks on the 966's don't have them installed. I would hesitate to turn up the fuel on this tractor without them. Also the injection pump numbers are different between the 2 as the positive manifold pressure changes the dynamics of the timing advance.
Awesome..now that nobodys lookin give that fuel a couple turns. Lol
Did you have to adjust the injection pump for more fuel? I did on mine, it would only run about quarter throttle after adding the turbo. I turbocharged mine back in the late 80.s
How much did it change on the tractor as far as power?
The 1066 is basically the same Tractor and, by purchasing it to begin with, the Factory installs the radiator. Other differences, that come with the 1066 and the 414 Engine: larger radiator, better valves and a heavier clutch. Fergieman

So a question if I may pick your brain. I bought a 1966 706, c 291 gasser. When we got it running, everythjng worked which includes the TA. Pull it on a climb, on a flat. It worked. Never tried it under an actual load. However, it had to be split for engine clutch. They delivered it a few months back and i was playing on it, and now i noticed my ta doesn't do anything. TA lever just goes back and forth. Is there a chance they dint have it adjusted correctly, which is what i think, or can they just up and go out without a sign. When it was working it was not herky jerky, just a nice smooth transition forward and back. Pressures seemed good as well.
I would 1st move the ta lever and make sure the linkages are moving the ta valve on top of the mcv up and down. If you have any questions head over to redrunrite.com contact page.

You made changing your TA look easy. It's obvious you have done a lot of them and know every trick to make your job easier. Keep up the good work and keep those IH tractors in the field for years to come.
Coming from the automotive repair industry I am amazed at how many of the parts you can still find for these older tractors. Automotive manufacturers are required to offer parts 10 years from date of manufacture. After that you’ll be likely hunting a salvage yard part if it’s a special item.
I believe a lot of the old parts are still either NOS or after market and or salvage yards.
