The best 500km of biking in New Zealand? | Kahurangi 500

The Kahurangi 500 is a route which circumnavigates the Kahurangi National Park via the Old Ghost Road, Heaphy, Rameka and Porika trails. Fantastic singletrack surrounded by amazing scenery and wildlife makes it my pick for the best taste of what New Zealand has to offer in one ride.
I used this ride as my final sizeable training ride before travelling over to Kyrgyzstan to race the Silk Road Mountain Race, therefore I was pushing hard against the clock.
Out on the route was Anton McGeachen who I have to thank for the incredible photo's taken throughout the ride. I'd also like to thank Sam Greenslade for creating the animations for the video.

The Silk Road Mountain Race is a 2,000km bike packing race through the picturesque mountains of Kyrgyzstan. Heat, altitude and difficult resupply made this race truly testing for me, especially the first few days. The Hammer Hundy is an XC marathon race through the Hanmer Springs Forest. This was the inaugural running of the race, so the turn out was low, but the course is amazing. Really enjoyed battling it out with the competitors for 6 hours! Enjoy

In 2021 Le Petit Brevet 'Misery' route was created by event organiser Andy Chalmers. That year Rufus and I decided to attempt this ridiculous route and try to complete the 15,000m of climbing before the 38 hour cut off. We both failed miserably, and so have all other attempts.
