Berean Holiness
Добавлен 23 июн 2020
Berean Holiness exists to encourage the Church towards biblical holiness-one which flows from Christ Himself and yields the fruits of love, unity, and effective outreach. Like the Bereans, we endeavor to study out modern day teachings of holiness by “examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things [are] so,” (Acts 17:11). Thank you so much for joining us as we dive into the theology and practical application of biblical holiness, as well as the history and doctrinal development of the Holiness movement.
Jeff's Story: Trading a Performance-Based "Gospel" for the Gospel of Grace
Jeff became involved in Oneness Pentecostalism at thirteen years old. He remembers feeling the rush of emotion as they clapped, ran, and shouted to the upbeat music. As he got older, he kept returning to UPCI churches, looking for mercy and love-or if nothing else, the emotional high-but all he found was a performance-based message, "Do better! Do more! You're not doing enough!" The "gospel" he was presented with was not good news.
Deeply discouraged and spiritually exhausted, Jeff eventually gave up and walked away from faith. If there was no way to escape hell, it only made sense to at least enjoy the pleasures of sin. The pleasures were short lived. He spiraled into depression and found...

Tammy’s Story: Resting in Grace After Hyper Fundamentalism
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.21 день назад
Tammy joined the United Pentecostal Church in her early thirties. She desired to serve the Lord and was told that the way to do this was to serve the church, so she jumped in and began working. As the years went by, her workload and stress increased to an exhausting degree. She suffered from adrenal fatigue and at her lowest wished for death. God seemed merciless and harsh, asking for far more ...
Rodney's Story: Leaving the Mennonites to Grow in Grace
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.Месяц назад
Rodney was born into the Old Order Stauffer Mennonite Church. Stauffer Mennonites view themselves as the one true church, believe you cannot know if you are saved (church membership is your best chance), and enforce a long list of extra-biblical rules, forbidding every thing from zippers to men's beards to electricity. Those who leave this group are handed over to the devil, and that's exactly ...
Alicia's Story: Finding the Joy of Salvation (No Tongues Required)

From a child, Alicia loved her Oneness Pentecostal church and school, and even more so, she loved Jesus. Inside, however, she was trapped in spiritual terror. Alicia had a secret that not many people knew-she couldn't speak in tongues. And in Oneness Pentecostalism? That meant she wasn't saved. After desperately seeking tongues for many years, Alicia felt that God must have rejected her. She co...
Amie’s Story: Breaking Free from Oneness Pentecostalism
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.2 месяца назад
Amie was a devoted Oneness Pentecostal as a young person, attending their churches as much as she could, especially strict, independent churches (since the UPCI was too “loose”). The standards Amie grew up around were extreme. Hair bows, decorative clips, hairspray, curled hair, poofed hair, and plucking eyebrows were all preached against. In some circles, even shampoo and deodorant were proble...

Daniel was raised in the United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI), the largest Oneness Pentecostal denomination. In this conversation, Daniel shares how raising their own children prompted him and his wife to more carefu...
Whitney’s Story: Leaving General Assembly and Church of the First Born

Church of the First Born's teachings on Holiness standards vary. Some congregations are strict against women’s pant...

Jesus is The Way and The Truth-Not An Apostolic Denomination
So happy this is a resource for people currently in, or are thinking of leaving a church like this. There’s beauty of getting introduced to God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit, but the flourishing happens when you truly dive deep into His word and the history behind the gospel, leading to a relationship where you understand God’s character and love for His people. Everything in the Bible points to Jesus and it’s so fun and beautiful to learn! Listening to preaching from Church of the Firstborn was not edifying or very helpful. You could never do enough to “feel” like you were truly saved. Whitney hit the nail on the head. No seminary school for the preachers or anything - just information and concepts passed down from generations. I’m sure most people there have good intentions, but the cult mentality runs deep and causes so much damage to those who attend. I loved the questions and answers. Thank you both for spending time on this!
Thank you for your story. Your story is going to help many of us who are either still working through our years in this cult religion. Thank you for your story and sharing what you have been through. Just as you were striving for. I also was starving for very much of the same. In the church and now outside. The more stories I hear help so very much.
What a beautiful testimony! So similar to mine! And so comforting to hear it -and the others-and know that I am not alone in this. Thank you!
Check out the 2 x 2's.
Why do they focus on tongues only when there are 8 other gifts no ever talks about?
What a beautiful story of God’s grace and mercy towards us. Thank you for sharing this.
Next thing this poor guy knew, he was part of a Christian gang.
😂 I never thought of it like that. That's hilarious.
Thank you so much for sharing your story, with such transparency and humility Jeff. It is so evident that you carry the peace of God and it’s beautiful to behold. God’s blessings be yours. And thank you, Natalie and Berean Holiness for everything you do to minister to those who are in the process of exiting or have exited these hyper-fundamental churches and looking for a safe place to land. You offer hope to so many. Grace, Grace and more Grace. God is so good.
This makes me sad that someone would want to talk bad about this good church and put this on RUclips. If you don't want to attend there then leave, no one forces you to stay. This is a wonderful church. They follow what the bible tells us. If any of you read the Holy Bible then you would know that this is a good church and wonderful people trying to do what the bible tells us to do. Yes the Bible tells us to greet your brothern with a holy kiss. So sad that so many people would jump on board and even think about speaking evil of these good people and their religion. Open your bible and read.
oh my word thank you for doing the research and sharing!
Her experience..ugh so real..i left the pentecostal church and never felt so free in Christ and the Joy i feel now is deff the joy of the Lord. The expectations were so unreal and a recipe for family destruction..so much family division within the church but to them as long as you were at the church 4 times a day or more u were fine. They were so focused on the manifestation of the Holy Spirit..which is amazingy. However, when u have manifestation and not stability in His Word theres a problem. I lost my dad 4months into when i was attending that church. The Pastor said i shouldn't go to the funeral bcz he(my dad) wasn't saved. 😢 i did however go and he was so upset. I give God Glory for enlightening me through His Word and setting me free feom legalism. 🙌 I was there for 7 long yrs.
Wow. I was just nodding my head yes the whole time. I can relate in so many ways! I’m so thankful God revealed His word to you in truth. Never stop sharing your story. It is so powerful!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You should get the perspective of a member that is currently in the church and see what they have to say.
I escaped Christianity all together and have never been more at peace.
She is an awesome storyteller I loved this testimony. God bless you Amie.
Only thing online is through Wikipedia, cited by a book that is believed to be the origin of these assemblies. And it did not start in Oklahoma. It started in Texas, then took off in Kansas, around the 1870s and spread to Oklahoma later. And continued to spread after as well to Colorado, Idaho, Washington, Oregon. Eventually to Indiana, New Mexico, and Cali as well. Im sure there are others, those are what I have knowledge of.
I noticed there was no explanation behind the doctoring explaining why they don't, their belief and reasoning for this, what they do instead... I'm guessing they choose more of a holistic approach to health care as well as prayer?
I have a few ppl I have met from this church and the assembly you went to seems a bit extreme to the norm. They definitely all study their Bibles and say they believe it's important to read and study and form your own beliefs, growing your faith, prayer daily, as opposed to just depending on what the preacher tells you on Sunday morning. That it's foundational to how they believe. They are definitely big on doing what is right and frown upon things we know we shouldn't do but from understanding they believe in earned grace. As in like confess, repent, and change your ways, then you will be forgiven. But actively choosing to live a sinful life, like choosing to go out and party over and over and not feeling guilty and no intention to stop, then you can't just be like well I'm baptized or I said a specific prayer so I'm good. Grace when you truly seek to change and start making changes and earnestly seek forgiveness. Girls can work, they just stop either when they get married or start having children. Varies person to person. Some homeschool, some public schools, and 3 of them have siblings that went to college. I went to school with a few and worked with a few. I have more questions after watching this for sure. Maybe being across states and no formally written regulations caused some major differences over time. Especially if some of them have very strict leaders.
@@lizziejay5362 she’s obviously mad at her assembly and is labeling the entire church She didn’t seem to know much about other assembly’s
This is so cultish it's insane.
This is amazing! Im not crazy and im not the only one that has been through these changes. I was a part of a pentecostal church that would impliments and force so many man made mandates that were not real. And just when u thought u reached everythi g on the list the leader would come on sunday and preach a sermon and a new mandate. It was so overwhelming. I was at a point where i felt i was just gna go to hell but deep down in my heart i felt there was more to the walk with Christ. I thank God he has helped me to know His grace by His word. It has been hard with the changes because truly God is so immense and our brain cannot grasp it❤️❤️
@BereanHoliness Christianity is not uniformity but rather Christ centered. Everyone will not dress the way you dress and that doesn't make them a less Christian. I hate what you have done to those little girls. Even Jesus our Lord wouldn't do what you just did by publicly defaming them. If you are truly a child of God, you wouldn't fight another child of God just because you have doctrinal differences. You need to repent and reach out to those wonderful souls and apologize. All those comparing themselves with themselves are not wise
My grandfather is a half hearted baptist at best. He attends church but doesn’t abide by all the teachings…. But He said something one time that I will never forget. I was in the Holiness church for over 20 years. I still believe in Holiness but not all of their doctrine. Anyway, Papaw told me one time that too much religion can drive you crazy. I didn’t realize it then, but he was correct. He didn’t say too much Jesus, he said too much “religion”. Religion is a great enemy to the church.

3000 parallels between the IFB and Holiness Churches, Oneness Pentecostals. I hear a preacher from each and can hardly distinguish the two.
This is a solid amount of the IFB in a nutshell.
Sounds just like independent fundamental baptist
@0:47 exactly correct! He's using long hair as an argument for headcoverings!
Thank you for your research!
Some pastors are control freaks.
I liked how you said: “when is it that we were supposed to visit the sick, the widow and the hungry”. I wondered the same thing while in church. It didn’t sit right…
The church is not a building, institution, or specific person. It is the people of God. Wherever His people are, there is His Spirit 🙏.
I have a friend in the UPC church. Her and her husband decided to start a business and their pastor was upset because they didn't consult him first. He was "concerned" that their business would stop them from being able to go knocking on doors on Saturday. Most people in the UPC church ask their pastor about almost everything.
Not the UPCI church I go to. That’s just so weird to me. I think my pastor would look at me funny and say huh ????
Excellent conversation, so many wise words and advice. Thank you so much for explaining it so well.
The UPCI treats the pastor as essentially God. Because they say we cannot trust ourselves and our intuition, that God spoke nearly exclusively through the pastor, and that we are supposed to unquestionably follow the pastor, they've created a perfect formula for abusive, authoritarian structure and where indiscretions are too easily hidden and swept under the rug. This system inordinately benefits one individual while members are gaslit into thinking their misfortunes are their own fault because they don't pray enough or don't follow the pastor fully.
And pastors and elevated, affluent members are able to skirt the rules and have their misdeeds forgiven or even just flat-out ignored. And, despite their shortcomings, God still sees fit to give them luxury cars and large homes, while regular members are constantly assessing their personal devotion and trying to make it make sense why they are instead experiencing adversity rather than driving to church in a Mercedes Benz like the pastor.
Hey brother , Happy New Year. I hope you are well. I wrote DB at HQ about your favorite “hand maiden” and bishop. Looking forward to seeing if he defends them .
@@randyroyer9630 Hey, happy new year to you as well. I'm doing good, hope you are too. I wonder if they'll actually do anything about it, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Like the military mindset in the world. I am still struggling as a person who served
I grew up in the UPC, left, joined the Marines. I went from one cult to another.
I wish I had known how you felt. I would love to give you a hug.
Oh my word. So true so true. I was there. I saw the same things. I still deal with the fear today!
