Start Your Weekend Morning With a Drive Through the Forest

    What are your thoughts on swapping the keys lift for a BDS lift kit...is it worth it? Or is airing down sufficient enough on a torsion key lift.

    • @OverlandAdventureTimes
      @OverlandAdventureTimes 6 дней назад

      For ride quality? Airing down works great for me, the keys are barely cranked. If you try for more than 2" with keys, that's where things go bad and a real lift is definitely worth it.

    The first syllable of “Livengood” is pronounced with a long I sound, as in “alive”. I spent the summer of 1975 working as a union Laborer (Local 942) on construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) at Five Mile Camp… so named because it’s 5 miles north of the Yukon River. I was on the night shift, though it never really got dark, working on a VSM (Vertical Support Member) Crew for the above ground portion of TAPS. I spent the following summer (1976) at Old Man, Prospect Creek, and Coldfoot… the next three camps north of Five Mile. That adventure allowed to graduate debt free, with $$$ in the bank, from the University of Alaska in 1977.

    im so confused with the roof top tents they say they weight damn near 200lbs, and the weight capacity of the roof racks on these (specifically my 06 escalade) is 200lbs...how are people using these and not collapsing/breaking/damaging the roof rack or the roof itself? I weight 185, the wife and tent itself puts it way over that max capacity.... can anyone chime in on this?

    • @OverlandAdventureTimes
      @OverlandAdventureTimes 4 месяца назад

      It's static vs. dynamic weight ratings. A vehicle manufacturer gives a dynamic rating, ie in motion, because that's how the expect you to use a rack. Not moving, a tent in camp, a roof can hold much more.

    Loving that Jeep! I don't think me and Silver would have survived those puddles. I have considered checking out some of those sand campgrounds.......maybe not. Things have sure changed since I was a kid growing up around there. Seems, at times anyway, if you want a bit of peace and quiet close to the beaches, you need to go to a motel.....except on Spring Break. Agreed though, I much prefer the quiet and solitude to the 24/7 party atmosphere.

      Thanks! Puddles made me realize that I know where the intake tube and diff breathers are on the Yukon, and not so much the Jeep yet! Beach and dunes were a blast to drive, but the camp spot we picked, although the farthest from anyone else, was right on a pretty fast section where the SxS's just kept blasting through.

    I enjoyed your Alaska content. One spot I'm curious about is the scene at 5:35. That's pretty sweet. Do you recall what glacier that is? I'd figure out the rest. You showed it right after the Matanuska and before Anchorage, but from what I can tell, there aren't any other glacier views to speak of until the Knik. Assuming that wasn't out of chronological sequence, I haven't been able to piece together where this one is at--yet. At any rate, it seems as though that's a roadside view and couldn't be missed when driving by.

    • @OverlandAdventureTimes
      @OverlandAdventureTimes 6 месяцев назад

      Oh man, I wish I could pinpoint that! I'm 90% sure it's chronologically correct, and I remember it was a decently long straight pulloff, on the left hand side heading towards Anchorage. Looking at the maps, I can't be sure yet, but I'll keep looking!

      @darrenk6616 6 месяцев назад

      Ah ha! We have a match! I already had a waypoint set looking at the Nelchina from the highway, which is undoubtedly very close to where you took your shot. I was doing most of my scouting via Google Earth and I didn't think the highway offered that kind of elevated view. Had I simply done an image search for that or the other two adjacent ones, I would've answered my own question. Just hadn't got to that part yet I guess. The video sequence threw off the scent! The spaced out trees really add a lot to that composition. I appreciate you following up. Many thanks! I hope you didn't spend too much time digging that up for my benefit, but it's usually fun to go back and look at old trip stuff. Take care.

    Hell Ya Boss!!! Thank you for the walk around. Still building out my 02’ Suburban Z71 but I’m almost done. Can you go over the ram mounts you used? I’m still trying to figure out how to mount my gadgets. Where’s the next destination?

    • @OverlandAdventureTimes
      @OverlandAdventureTimes 6 месяцев назад

      The base for the GoPro mount where it attached to the dash is from Pro Clip. They have a lot of options for where it can be mounted. Then it's just the articulating arm up to a ball with a 1/4-20 screw and an arca swiss plate. The X grip for the Garmin is on an off-brand bendable aluminium arm that mounts to the floor. It's less stable than I thought it would be , and would probably just use one of the lower mounted Pro Clips instead. There's a ton of ways to combine all the Ram Mount stuff, but the Pro Clips make a great starting point for mounting. Biggest trip this summer will be a combination of the Owyhee, Wallowas, Elkhorns and back to the central desert. Planning about 8 days.

      @@OverlandAdventureTimes Do you think the skyjacker rear springs are rated for the same as factory? I run a set of hummer H2 conversion coils and they support the load very well but after my solid axle swap I they were not tall enough. and I had to use 2" spacers. I believe a set of +6" springs would set me right but with my bumper and swingout I'm afraid they will sag. I think the H2 coils would work perfect for you.

    • @OverlandAdventureTimes
      @OverlandAdventureTimes 6 месяцев назад

      @@overlandtowater I have no way to confirm, but I suspect they are very close to the factory spring rate(Z71 or MOOG rate, not Denali 😄). I've been looking at the H2s, and Dobinsons has a heavy rate 2" lift spring also(which is also pretty expensive). Tempted to try out the H2s next. I just wish everyone made spring rates readily available. It's been driving me nuts researching springs for the Jeep, too. Free length only means so much!

    • @OverlandAdventureTimes
      @OverlandAdventureTimes 8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, Dawson Creek is the official start of the Alcan highway, so we wanted to hit that, and we were doing that next section mostly at night, so we HAD to hit Fort Nelson for fuel before they closed. We took the Cassiar south on the way back home, so we still got to see both sides, but there is definitely less fuel on the Cassiar, and it is a slower drive.
