Do you think I will get stuck??
We found this #wheelchairaccessible trail at Coldwater Spring Nature Area! Paved trails and smooth boardwalks (and transitions to those boardwalks!) make going for a Sunday walk with my little family very pleasant. I wish there were more places like this!

    I've always wished there could be a wheelchair that could lower the seat down to ground level similar to the lift function on many powerchairs. No idea how that would work though!

    Looks like a big enough yard to crawl around in anyways. I’m not in a wheel chair but if I was. I would never let it stop me from being me. I had battle buddy get shot and can’t walk again. He came home and started working out what he could and now he’s in the Olympics playing wheel chair basket ball etc. He still goes swimming with us. We go running in the mornings he’s right there rolling along. I remember at first we would always try and help him with everything. Now, we just let him do him. Guess we all had some adjustments to make right? We were only doin it out of carrying and protecting but we realized it held him back from being him. Do you boo boo, let the haters hate. I know I could use more sun myself regardless how I get it!

    Hello ❤ thank you soooo much for your words... I live in France in a fairly mountainous environment. There are quite a few paths with stones or for example just yesterday I went for a very nice little walk (which got me stoned) and at one point there was a big root that you had to step over to get through. I don't know how I'll manage with a wheelchair? and I'm afraid I won't be able to take any more nature walks...? I am afraid of that...

    hi. i love your videos. as a retail employee, as well as a home depot employee, you can always ask for a manager to send you someone to assist you WHILE shopping. As soon as you go into any retail location you can ask management, and they WILL send an associate to help you shop. if you dont want to, totally understandable. i am unsure if you knew that but its totally possible. great video!! if for some reason they say they can't help in that way, you will get yourself the biggest shopping credit of your life awarded to you because that would be awful customer service.

    • @DisabledInNature
      @DisabledInNature 4 дня назад

      I hadn't thought of asking for that! Interesting. Do employees like doing that with people? I can imagine it being a fun little detour to their day, but also a nuisance that keeps them from getting other things done haha

    • @singleplayergamerr
      @singleplayergamerr 4 дня назад

      @@DisabledInNature in my experience employees prefer to do that. It breaks them from the monotony and gives them more meaning knowing they were able to help a customer in that way. Usually there’s more than 1 person in a department and someone else can pick up where they left off. And retail employees are never THAT busy to help a customer. Customer experience is always first. It’s about customer service and making the sale and all customers leaving happy and returning to the store. They should even be more than happy to load your product into your vehicle for you. I worked at a grocery store and there was a blind man as well as another lady with a disability who would get this assistance multiple times a week. Home Depot prides themselves on customer service as well.

  • @ALACGltd
    @ALACGltd 5 дней назад

    Hey there! I have cerebral palsy and use a manual wheelchair and a service dog May I just request all folks who use a service dog to NOT have an ID or documentation. Even voluntary identification is harmful to real users of service dogs and can result in denied access. Especially if someone before you used a scam online type registry it really harms all service dog users because you nailed it. THERE IS NO Registry. None. So the more folks use identification papers or cards it harms all of us who have legitimate service dogs. Also I would say petting a service dog puts me in a very vulnerable position. I need my dog to stay focused or I can get hurt. She’s super cute but when she’s not working that’s a perfect time to say hi and pet her. I really love your videos. You’re so much fun to listen to and I enjoy your videos so much. ❤ Sending love :)

    I’m a full time wheelchair user and I can’t walk. There was a period when I could walk a little bit. But fifteen minutes per block? Not functioning well. Sarcasm alert here: I know able bodied people who take a subway train from 23rd Street to 125th Street. They can walk, so why do they need to take a train?

    I live on 400 dollars each month. Im so poor and also brown buddy in a chair. I was born with cerebral palsy. My friend pays rent other wise I’d still be homeless. I was homeless from 15 to 28 years old. I can’t afford Netflix other wise I would watch. I grew up in an institution roughly translated as the home for the incurable in third world conditions. I’m so ignorant on the disability rights movement but since coming to the USA every day life has improved. The ada protects me as a manual wheelchair user and service dog user. My biggest question to you would be What concretely do we have left to do. What are the top things you think we can legislate further? I want to get to work on your list in my community now. For example the train stop that takes me into Boston isn’t wheelchair accessible. How do we challenge that with current laws? Thank you for explaining and taking the time and effort to educate us. Sending love and good vibes your way. ❤

    I know my visually impaired friends don’t drive, but would pump the gas if I ever needed them to. I’ve been wondering if the pump itself could be automated through buttons to start/stop the flow because squeezing the mechanism is extremely difficult with low mobility hands…

    • @DisabledInNature
      @DisabledInNature 13 дней назад

      A lot of people have this problem! I guess the thing where the pump locks is also an American thing? I've had people from Australia and the UK comment how their pumps don't do that and they can't squeeze it the whole time.

    These delays have got to be deliberate. This is more than just incompetence and inadequate staffing. This is intentional procedural delay to wear folks with disabilities out, so they will just give up and go away. In the meantime, our government gives free benefits away to non- citizens, who don't have to document anything. How does any American, regardless of their political persuasion, think that any of this is good and right?

    As I commented on one of your other videos, the brokenness of the system is not accidental. It was designed that way, to make sure all but the most determined get discouraged and give up. Private insurers have huge departments devoted to denying claims. Public agencies achieve the same results through simple incompetence.

  • @tsundokujim
    @tsundokujim 22 дня назад

    That's a great looking van. So glad you finally got it. What a saga! Just a couple of observations from someone who's been through a similar process (in case it helps other viewers). (1) I went with VMI, because their vans have a separate battery backup for the ramp, in case the main battery dies. Braun didn't offer this when I bought mine. (2) That low-effort braking system is something I could really use, but I'm uncomfortable with the big hunk of metal sitting right in front of the knee. I know my legs aren't much use, but I still don't relish the idea of smashing my kneecap to a pulp in a front-end collision. Still, the DME industry is so backward and amateurish that I doubt anyone else makes anything safer. (3) VMI configurations generally have a bit more space in the back, making maneuvering bigger chairs easier. (4) You probably weren't given the option, but a retracting pin on the bottom of your chair would preserve your ground clearance. Before I got one, I bent the pin on uneven ground and curbs a couple of times, than found I couldn't secure the chair to the van. A retracting pin solved this problem.

    • @DisabledInNature
      @DisabledInNature 22 дня назад

      I didn't know that contracting pins were a thing! I've definitely gotten stuck on a few buts of uneven pavement. If I'm ever up for a replacement pin I will definitely ask about this!

  • @tsundokujim
    @tsundokujim 22 дня назад

    Fellow FSHDer here. My experience navigating the Kafkaesque world of disability "assistance" services has taught me two things. (1) Delays aren't failures of the process; they ARE the process. They are intentional, intended to make all but the most determined give up and go away. (2) Very few senior decision-makers in these agencies are disabled. They therefore have little understanding of our needs and think we should be grateful for whatever crumbs they toss our way.
