I’ve been following you for a couple months now but just went back and binge watched every video and I’m literally obsessed with your channel! I absolutely love listening to you talk about books and my tbr has grown immensely. I can’t wait to check out some of your recommendations! I’ve been really wanting to buy The Book of Doors since hearing you talk about it!
Oh I so agree with you on Sorcery of Thorns. It is one of my favs and I loved the sequel novella. The story and romance is so amazing. I love you sweater! Last summer I visited WDW for the first time and Epcot was one of my favorite parks❤
I think powerless is so completely overhyped I really think some people promoting it didnt even read it😬
There is a book I think you will like called the hope of tomorrow
You are one of my recent favorite RUclipsrs🤍🤍 I feel very similarly to you about Fourth Wing! I definitely feel like it is overhyped for what it is, but it also got me out of a huge reading slump. I feel exactly the same way about ACOTAR. I hadnt read in literal years, and ACOTAR kickstarted me beginning to read again, and starting a bookstagram account! I will forever be thankful to both of them, just for that🤍
one day twelve kings will be on these lists T___T the most underrated
project Hail Mary is one of the worst books I have ever read. the plot seems interesting, but the writing was so so so bad.
**Listening to Olive explain The Memory Thief** Me: ... so basically what Disney's Wish wanted to be - got it 😂
hearing you not like shadow and bone kinda breaks my heart 💔 but personal preference is a thing and not everyone will like what I liked.
You're really rolling with these back to back amazing book content! Please never stop speaking about books because you just have a captivating way about it! All 5 books sounded amazing and I'm so excited to explore and get to it!
Omg yes. From blood and ash was so... ugh. I really liked the idea for it, you know, the maiden who should not be touched or looked at and a romance with the guard, but... I couldnt stand Hawke. He behaved like a horny teenager, his every joke and almost every conversation was sex/horny/flirty related. They had ONE conversation, ONE that wasnt even that deep, but from that one they started to mention all the time how they "feel as if they know each other for ages". Just...no. Maybe Rhysand longing for Feyre for 54 chapters has risen my standards, but Hawke was such a disappointment. Their relationship was flatter than Earth viewed by a flatearth-believer. Gosh
flatter than earth viewed by a flat earth believer is the funniest thing i've ever heard
I read the first two chapters of Powerless and didn't like it. It annoyed me that there was a 'hook' in the first sentence that turned out to not be true. She thinks there's blood but it's actually honey. It felt like clickbait so I gave it up.
One underrated fantasy series that deserves more hype is The Cradle series by Will Wight📚
I really wanted to give blood and ash series a serious try, I love vampire stuff. the first book definitely had some improvement points, but I enjoyed it. second book got so slow and repetitive and during the third book I dropped the serie at the point where poppy got saved and I thought she was dreaming because it happened so easy and out of nowhere, and I was hoping for Poppy to work something out herself, that's when I litterally threw the book away
I’m new to your channel but your videos are such a vibe
the Septimus Heap books by Angie Sage, Kevin Hearnes book series (The Iron Druid Chronicles, the ink and sigil series and the seven kennings series), the Dreamwalker series by J.D. Oswald and the A Dark and Hollow Star series by Ashley Shuttleworth.
Ooh, thanks for all these suggestions!
Every time you open your beverage you hold it and make a face like you expect it to explode
Well what if it does explode
@olivesbooknook hahaha. Then I guess you are prepared. Always look forward to new content from you. Happy reading.
the youngest sister is Elain....just saying. :)
I fear some people will come for me for saying this but i think people we meet on vacation by emily henry is overhyped and in my opinion was just bad
I'm a pretty big Emily Henry fan tbh, but PWMOV is by far my least favorite book of hers, and I do think it's overhyped as well. I just don't get it haha
@@olivesbooknook I literally don’t understand the booktok community raving about this book everytime a vid pops up in my fyp i just blank stare cause did. we read the same book? i’m also open to emily henry recs i wanna give her books another try
Yeah I think PWMOV is a pretty bad representation of her work. My favorite of hers is Happy Place - I also really love Beach Read. Beach Read feels more like a classic romance, Happy Place feels more like an emotional study on different types of relationships (with yes, some romance in there). I even enjoy most of her other books, Book Lovers and Funny Story but wow….there’s a pretty large gap for me with People We Meet on Vacation.
❤📚📚❤️
I just discovered your channel a few days ago and you’re now my comfort book tuber ❤ we have very similar taste so I always take your recs!
That's so nice wow. Thank you so much!!
Some more unpopular books I would say are The Queen’s Thief by Megan Whalen Turner, Penryn and the End of the Days by Susan Ee, Curse Workers by Holly Black… these all have lesser than 100K rating on GR… love the recommendations in the video esp The memory thief…
Some of these books I was gonna get, but I might pass on them now, so thanks for your opinions on them! I definitely agree with you on Powerless, too. I actually looooved Powerless and Reckless, simply because it was a fun book. However, it was way too similar to Hunger Games, felt very cliche and copy-paste for a lot of parts, there wasn't as much emotional depth as I would have wanted, and I agree: the writing style was younger then I thought. I enjoy most YA books I read because I really dont expect much going into them 😂. I read them to get out of a slump and to have a fun, easy read and that's what I get most of the time. Sometimes they exceed my exceptions, and other times the "faults" are too much to allow me to enjoy the book. But yeah, my book preferences are just a bit different from YA, so I dont expect soooo much from them
You're a better person than me. I read to escape into more fun, love, battles, romcoms, fantasy, and UF type books, etc. I'm not a huge fan of heavy literature.🙈
"you can't argue with science" haha oh boy how i wish that was true
Did you read the dream Harbor series? There’s only 3 books out atm but it really gives Gilmore Girls vibes. First book the pumpkin spice cafe, easy read super quick romance book and the other ones are really cute and cozy as well
This was so enjoyable to listen to! Your husband is hilarious and all of his references to things cracked me up. It was also really interesting how much he was able to, like, distill down to the basics of why so many people love this series (easy to follow, fun characters, makes you want to read on, etc.). The way he described his thoughts was really insightful. I feel like I’ve personally been more negative about the series over time, but it really reminded me of why I truly loved the first book so much when it came out. Very excited to see his opinions on the next book(s)!!
I started reading “a crown of ivy and glass” by Claire Legrand and I’m not on booktok or bookstagram and just recently (1month ago) entered into booktube and I haven’t seen anyone talk about this book I just bought it because of the pretty cover. Let me know if you’ve ever heard of the book, I’m 300pages in and I’m still on the fence between loving it and not liking it at all. Also don’t know if you’ve ever read “strange the dreamer” by Laini Taylor but I loved loved loved the series (2books) Also I added most of your recommendations to my tbr haha
I’ve been in a reading slump lately and DNF-ing almost every book within one chapter. I’m currently 10 pages into The Philosophers Flight and can already feel my love for fantasy coming back 🥰 so thank you! 🫶🏻🥹
THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY
Omg love your sweater
Awe thank you!!
A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC YES
YEPPPPP it needs to be talked about more
Ohh Mexican gothic was clearly marketed as paranormal, some of the authors previous books were also similar. You might have missed that.
I got it off of BOTM four years ago - it definitely wasn't mentioned as being paranormal or supernatural then. Maybe they've changed how they've been marketing it since then, but it was a big surprise to me when I read it.
@olivesbooknook Ooh I see. Yeah I guess so. I read it about two years ago and I went in knowing it was paranormal, maybe cause it was quite popular in the horror space by then.
Ok you’ve convinced me to add some of these to my tbr list!❤
Ooh yay! ❤️
LOVE Graceling, but the second book 'Fire' is one of my favourite Fantasy novels. I reread it nearly every year. Some great recs here - love this style of video!
Fire is definitely my fav!
I like this video, however I am a bit confused about the "unpopular" and "deserve more hype" tags. Graceling has bad a time in the spotlight a few years ago and has 469,000 ratings on goodreads. A Darker Shade of Magic has been the resident booktube sweetheart for a few years now. And it also has over 300,000 ratings on goodreads.
It’s not a perfect science but like I said in the video, I personally haven’t seen anyone talk about them specifically on Booktok, Booktube and Bookstagram. Doesn’t mean they aren’t talked about at all, but this is my opinion.
Graceling was recommended to me by my favorite librarian and it was so good! There are 5 novels in that world now: Graceling, Fire, Bitterblue, Winterkeep, and Seasparrow. All worth reading.
FIVE? Woah how did I not know that
I don’t really enjoy reading fantasy at all BUT I love listening to your reviews and explanations 😀 so I stayed for the entire thing. It was amazing.
That’s so nice!! Thank you so much!
When I saw the video title the first book that popped into my mind was Graceling. I actually yelled “yes!” and pointed at my phone while I was doing the dishes when you said it 😂 Fire is also my favorite in the series.
Wait this is awesome, makes me so happy!
The graceling link is missing, great video 💙
Op, thanks for letting me know!
Ooo, what was that beverage
Just good ole Kirkland Signature
Graceling was soooooo good! Thanks for reminding me of it 🖤
You’re welcome! ❤️
These all sound really good! One of my fav underhyped fantasy is The Dollmaker of Krakow. It has such magical and whimsical writing but is also mixed with a historical setting
Ooh that sounds interesting!
Yes! I loved it too!
This makes our day! Thank you so much for sharing the love and we hope you enjoy the stories as much as we did!! 😍 Happy reading!!
Really want to read Shades of Magic, but I've just recovered from Gallant and I don't trust Schwab not to wreck my fragile heart again.
Gallant is on my shelf right now…still haven’t read it but this makes me nervous haha
@@olivesbooknook sorry😅 But if you like Schwab in general, I think you'll like it, too.
this "underrated " books videos are always my favvv
Awe yay!
Graceling!! <3
❤️
Omg yes with Graceling! I've read the first two books in the series recently, and they hold up so well! Way less tropey and stereotypical than I was expecting.
They really do hold up!
i love the way you explain the plots for books. you go into them with a certain care. i have given certain books a second chance only due to how you've described them
Awe, thank you so much!
im early again <3
❤️
My TBR is scared to see you recommending books. I will literally buy them all 🥲
Hahahaha 😂
