Thank you for your kind words. We were worried at the beginning as it was not a traditional Portuguese house. But it’s located in a nature park, and the whole home tells a story about sustainability and environmentally friendly interventions. Our concern was both environment concerns but without compromise on comfort! We are still tweaking but getting there!

@@horacio9432 came down to cost! We couldn’t afford to tile ceramic everywhere. So it made sense to go with a warmer laminate in the living areas. So wherever it goes from ceramic to laminate you need the transition. It also delineates different spaces, which is why we didn’t try to match the pattern. It would have looked ‘tacky’ 😂

@@carlossousa4797 eventually! Still not finished though. There is a whole load of lessons learned that we would love to pass on too!

Still ongoing, but it will be interesting to add it all up in the end. Including two extra years of travelling and accommodations we were not expecting to have to fund. Plus replacing all our furniture we sold before moving. Plus all the extras we insisted on because we wanted comfort in our retirement. But the way we see it is that we are investing in a comfortable retirement in the most environmentally friendly and cost effective way. What cost do you put on that??? 😁

yeah, when we started we were a bit worried, but the nearby food and nature hotel already set a president with the materials we wanted to use. Our architect was brilliant in understanding our desire to use natural sustainable materials and the design will hopefully sit well in the landscape without being an eye sore 🤞

I agree, four years is a long build time. Especially for a wood frame house. And it has been way more expensive than we hoped too. But it’s for our retirement so has to be right and everything that needs good trades people in Portugal takes a long time 👍
