Hand Paint 1/48 F6 Hellcat
It's been a long time in the making, but the video is finally here. A kit that was destined for the bin is brought back from the brink with some experimental techniques and Vallejo paints. I wanted to try something different and an old kit is perfect for experimenting with. Don't throw those half-finished kits away.. instead, try saving them and learning new techniques as you go. Hope you enjoy the video, Cheers.

T72b 1/35 Hand Paint Video Part 2 (Weathering)

In this video, I finish up the kit by doing the weathering (No airbrush). I start with Washes and then move on-to basic chipping. Once that was done I covered the tank in a light dust colour to blend everyt...

    The effect is superb and I appreciate this was a bit of an experiment and at risk of sounding pedantic your upper surface colours are just wrong for RN aircraft, which should be extra dark sea grey and slate grey which are not the RAF grey/green.

    • @modkitmayhem
      @modkitmayhem 4 месяца назад

      Thanks. I researched as much as I could on the colours. Some said this and others said that and in the end if I remember rightly I thought I’ll just go as close as I can to the photo! I know that’s probably throwing in a whole heap of variables in terms of bleach and tones changing but it looked so cool. I think my Fulmar video is probably closer to the real colours as it finished up being darker. Cheers 😀👍

      @@modkitmayhem There is some confusion especially regarding the earlier aircraft delivered to the RN from US factories and the Seafire II some of which were delivered in RAF schemes. The fading on Indian Ocean and Pacific aircraft would also have been considerable, it’s often difficult to even determine the demarcation of the two colours on B & W schemes. I am just starting my modelling again after last picking one up when I was around 13. I am now 51, common story I know, and because I am aware things have come on in leaps and bounds with paints and techniques since I last hung a badly glued and rapidly painted plastic kit from my bedroom ceiling with fishing line. I have been using tutorials on youtube to furnish myself with some of the skills needed to progress. I have just finished my second kit and am moving onto the next one, I popped your vid on in the background to learn about enamels, as I will do a kit in them again to keep my hand in, and lo and behold at 05:40 in the background I spy that very kit im working on.. The Italeri 1/72 Apache... Did you brush paint his one too? I am planning on spraying it as I have just got the Harder and Steenbeck ultra to upgrade from the chinese christmas cracker one.. Great video, thanks for sharing the skills.

      Great you are back in the hobby 😀👍 - I think I was same age (12-13) last time I actually finished a kit ha ha There’s so much that’s been improved but you can still keep it simple with good old Enamels. To be honest it can make you dizzy with all the new techniques and products to finish a kit.. I guess a good thing is to try what you can and see what you enjoy. I’ve done a Apache but in Acrylic’s.. although there’s not a lot of difference if you thin the Enamels enough. Triple check the canopy fit.. it was tricky on my kit!!! Thanks for commenting and I’m glad you are enjoying the videos.. hope they help on future projects! Cheers 😀👍

    Well, I enjoyed all 6 parts to this...and I only started off with the first one...but it's a story...and everyone loves a story...I've seen many videos of folk using Mr.levelling thinner..so I bought some for my WW2 aircraft models...First time I used it it started bubbling all my acrylic up as it did here for you...I stopped immediately...No one ever mentioned that before until you did...

      Thanks man, You are the first to say you've watched the whole six video's and I appreciate that! I worked hard on these and when they didn't do as well it was a bit depressing! I wanted the project to be a story (and I'm glad you said that) and most of all get people to realise not all projects go perfectly.. and that's ok!! I learned tons from doing it.

      @@modkitmayhem Yep...Spend many hours editing and such and no views...It's a hard road...(and I know how many hours it takes editing)...but you just got to make 'em and chuck 'em out there and see what gives really...I've done the same with some WW2 flight sim vids when I thought they were great...and no views...but I'm not trying to make a channel really...just for fun...I get the frustration...not appreciated...but some of us appreciate them

      I think the six parts put most people off ha ha.. I think that's the most important thing at the end of the day, try to keep it fun!

    If you know someone who vapes ask them to keep the little 10ml bottles for you...and use them to keep your diluted spray paint(ready to spray) for the whole model...They won't keep forever unless you fill them totally then they last months...but they will keep for a few weeks if you just have them half full...

      Thanks Lewis.. I think I bought a bag of empty paint bottles before I did my last spray video! Its been so long I've forgotten what stuff I've packed away! I'll have to have a look later today haha. Thanks for the idea though I'm sure there will be someone on here who will find that handy!

    Mmm, the smell of model glue and paint - memories of youth... Don't you use tweezers? It helps a lot in gluing small elements.

      Such a good smell and very relaxing once you remember how slow they dry ha ha.. I do use tweezers when I remember! Mostly on PE and really tricky details! I find while filming these vids I usually forget!! Hope you enjoyed the vid.

    I still use Humbrol enamels airbrushed mostly thinned with lacquer thinners along with everything else on the market. Still love them😀

      I’m thinking of doing my next build/video with Enamels again. Seems like it’s still a popular subject and there are still a fair few people using them. I did enjoy painting with them again I must say 😀👍

      Oh I forgot to say not Mr Color levelling thinners. I mean `real` lacquer thinners ,it works beautiful especially with the matt colours and then u have a choice of any primer colour! oh yeah it sticks, try it 50 /50, it bonds to the plastic not like this water based crap U need a mask and ventilation though

    What do A,B and C colour schemes look like ,is A dark green/grey,and B brown and green ,and C trop colour scheme??

    • @modkitmayhem
      @modkitmayhem Год назад

      If I remember rightly A and B are Brown/Green. B scheme is inverted so all the the green areas are painted brown and all the brown areas green! The camo pattern is pretty much the same. Not sure if C is grey! I’m sure a Spitfire expert on here will know! There’s a good section on this in Robert Humphrey’s The Supermarine Spitfire (Part 1) Book.

    I have used garden soil, ground in an old coffee grinder, mixed with water/glue and whatever color paint depending on type of mud / location and have always been happy with the results. I do like the test results you have as well. Always nice to have options!

    Excellent job. I last used Humbrol enamels 35 years ago, hand painting a Tamiya StuG IV. They were excellent paints, back then when air brushing was too costly. I hope my Fairly Fulmar turns out as good as yours.

      Thanks Petr. I must admit they were more fun to go back to than I expected. I’ll be painting a C47 in them next. I may give Tamiya a go for the F14s after that.. it’s supposed to be easier for learning to spray! Hope the Fulmar is going well 😀👍

    You show a very necessary set of techniques for modelers, the ability to utilize manual brush strokes and sponge blots instead of totally relying on an airbrush like so many seem to do for weathering. Of course the brush painted tank is magnificent and shows the beginner and experienced just what can be done with a brush.

    • @modkitmayhem

      I found lots of people appreciate videos that are brush painting ones. I'm getting back into the hobby so using a brush seemed like a good place to start until I mastered the airbrush. Glad you liked it, check out my Hellcat vid its got a good technique for pre-shading you might like! Cheers
