0:12 - That nighttime freecall drop is of a modified Mk-15 bomb-casing used to hold a thermonuclear warhead test-device for one of the test-shots in the 1962 Operation Dominic test series (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Dominic), that was the very last atmospheric test-series conducted by the USA before the 1963 Partial Test Ban treaty came into effect.
1991, Iraq/Kuwait, B-52G stuffed with paveways, tank plinking. Couple of planes could've destroyed and armored division each night.
Great low level long live the 379th
Great stuff
buff with cluster bomb
Let me ask. For what purposes was the dropping of two B-83's at the same time practiced?
Nope, that was a blooper...Lol
SSgt, 379th BW, 1971-1972.
Amazing, thanks
What is the source of this incredible footage? Is there any more on RUclips beyond your channel?
I was in a test squadron back in the 90s and was able to piece together a lot of footage from test missions to make my videos. I'm not sure about any others beyond my channel.
Another awesome video. Was this configuration ever carried: 12x AGM-86B on the wings, 8x AGM-69 internally on the CSRL, as and 4x B28 FFI? Or 4x some other smaller bomb like B83 or B61? Wws the B43 still around in the video timeframe? Thanks for the great uploads!
The configuration depended on what time period. Been out for some time now, so don't really know how they are configuring the BUFFs today - and thank for the comments, much appreciated.
What impressive skill and professionalism. And what capabilities. The SAC crews were top notch. The BUFFs were flying down around 200 ft on a lot of those drops. Most impressive. I think Ivan knew never to push too hard. Where did this testing occur? Nellis?
Wurtsmith was the best. Loved the 379th. I’ll never forgive McPeak for disbanding SAC. Global Strike Command just ain’t the same. Those were the days.
Awesome series of videos. The G model was my favorite BUFF, and Wurtsmith my favorite base/unit. Thanks for taking the time to post these. Sierra Hotel.
I worked on G's there, Fire Control 1980-83. Loved Wurtsmith. Downer was that our systems were out in the weather while they were in phase, LOL!
Did you guys pick up and repack the practice bombs after exercises for reuse? I imagine they get dinged up pretty badly, but it seems like the typical government pennypinching thing to do.
cannot really say about the normal day-to-day training missions as I was never stationed at a range to see if they did any clean up. However, if it was a weapons test, we usually recovered the weapon or cleaned up the site afterwords.
what is the song
Love the video I did not even know that I was being filmed! I am young man with the cheesy mustache and cool sun glasses. That was filmed the summer of 91 after Desert shield, I was only at wurtsmith 90-92 but I still have friends from there. Cheers Skog
Hey Skog, do you remember who was with you on that launch? Clay
Saw one of these mid-air refuelings (from our KC-135A) during our deployment to Fort Bliss / Biggs Army Air Field in 1989 with our 97th B-52G bomber group (Eaker AFB) for Operation Mighty Warrior. We were re-fueling our bombers on the way down.
Very nice... brought back great memories!! 97th Bomb Wing, Eaker AFB, 1989-92. I love the overlay of the Top Gun soundtrack.
Was Miss Piggy at Eaker when you were there?
Two thumbs up for all 7 parts. Thanks.
Nice. I was in charge of the ALCM/CALCM/SRAM facility at Barksdale in the 80's.
Critical targets like weapons storage or command and control centers would get two in case one was a dud. Same with missile silos and sub bases etc.
i know this is the 5th symphony of beethoven but who made the remix?
At 53 seconds into the video, in the 60s I would have been sent to prison if I took a picture of that. How things have changed. B-52 aircraft no longer carry these? And to show how they drop? On RUclips? Geeeez!
B52s stopped carrying gravity bombs in 2011. They're just cruise missile trucks now. The B28 was retired in 1991. The photo is actually an officially released photo.
I was in the 42nd OMS at Loring AFB, Maine (now closed) in the late '60s. At the very beginning, should you be showing some of these weapons? Do I need to explain? You know, as in Secret. Or are they now non-classified? Anyway, thanks for the video. It brought back memories.
Wow!!! How badly do you want someone to die that you have to drop TWO B83s on their porch.
How would you like to step out the front door and find a Mk53 ticking away:) Honey, pack the bags!!!
wouldnot have done it without first seeing us!!!! see my post to the video above!!!

Sir Seemy repl;y to this video above...
Was with the 494th BW (H) at Sheppard AFB from 63 to 67 and assigned to the Wing Standboard Division (you BUFFS know this dont ya)....loved giving tests my fellow "ass jockeys" who always flew backwards in the D models, until someone put them up front. Agree there will NEVER be another bird like the BUFF!!!!
Rog197236....to answer your questions..the H model is newer than the G model and has upgraded engines over the G....so as result of the SALT treaty we had to get rid of some our nuclear carriers, so we gave up the G model. Currently, there Buff squadrons at Minot and Barksdale. There were a number of reasons the Gunner position was eliminated...cost, not realistic when a modern day fighter can shoot from many miles away, also the mission has changed somewhat in part to a standoff weapon system
what's with the US Navy music ? That's Top Gun... !
It's the Overture from The Prince of Thieves by Michael Kamen.
Nobody is "dyeing" in strategic air command for multiple reasons. Strategic air command was disestablished in 1992. That makes it kinda hard to blame them for anything, don't you think? Also nobody "dyes" in the Air Force. They aren't in the business of adding color to textiles. Maybe you are referring to how many people make uniforms for the Air Force, in that case I'm not sure why you're upset? The more people they have "dyeing for SAC" means more jobs for everyone!
It would have been better with narration
@Abbath57 Definitely not.
@chazattic , Yepper, I know your dad...still work with him on occasion with my current job
LGBU CEP is just terrible, especially considering the system cost.
The first bomb is a B-28FFI, really cool..MK-19 (I think) then a B-61. I'm unsure of the very last one, it came along after I left the USAF.
we teach young men to drop fire on people but they cannot write "fuck" on there airplane because it is obscene
Thanks for posting the videos. I was at Wurtsmith from 82-92; Environmental Systems. It's sad to visit the base now, to know it was once a thriving community.
@ypaul83 it's the them of Jurassik Park I think
@ypaul83 I'd be careful about using the phrase "trail of smoke" because once we were at altitude, we might leave "contrails" short for condensation trails or vapour trails; artificial clouds that are the visible trails of condensed water vapour made by the exhaust of aircraft engines. As the hot exhaust gases cool in the surrounding air they may precipitate a cloud of microscopic water droplets. If the air is cold enough, this trail will comprise tiny ice crystals.
@ncs2000 Those are the internal bomblets from the CBU-58 series weapons (CBU = Cluster Bomb Units). They denotate on contact. However, they could & would detonate when they ran ito each other...
at 1.28, what weapon is that being used?
@bobtexstl Thanks...I had fun making the video. I have more that is in the planning stages, but not sure when it will hit the streets.
What a thing of beauty. I was a G-model RN/N and this brought back a lot of memories. I think i could run that checklist in my sleep--Thanks!
cool
@B52Freebird Get rid of the stupid music!!!! The air traffic controllers, pilots, and engines are all you need to hear.
