Great A/R video...I was a buff pilot from 1973-87...I fought like hec to stay out of SAC but in my 30 year career it was without a doubt my greatest AF experience. Side note....the weekend Top Gun was released i took a B-52G to Edmonton Canada for an airshow...we were all heros!!

Saw one of these mid-air refuelings (from our KC-135A) during our deployment to Fort Bliss / Biggs Army Air Field in 1989 with our 97th B-52G bomber group (Eaker AFB) for Operation Mighty Warrior. We were re-fueling our bombers on the way down.

Rog197236....to answer your questions..the H model is newer than the G model and has upgraded engines over the G....so as result of the SALT treaty we had to get rid of some our nuclear carriers, so we gave up the G model. Currently, there Buff squadrons at Minot and Barksdale. There were a number of reasons the Gunner position was eliminated...cost, not realistic when a modern day fighter can shoot from many miles away, also the mission has changed somewhat in part to a standoff weapon system
