The 22TCM Rabbit-Hole: Episode 1 The prep work.
In the series, we are going to take the 22 TCM cartridge and rifle to it's accuracy limits.
To start with I wanted to make the rifle and brass all that it could be. That meant polishing a lot of rough castings and making the rifle run like a quality gun should. The rifle has been completely smooth and smithed. we've added threading to the barrel and a 11° target crown.
I made match grade brass from headstamped AP brass. This is the best I can do with my tools.
Here are links to the bullets and some of the tools I'm using.

These bullets will seat far enough in the case to feed out ofvthe standard magazine.

I went to Crane Creek to start my Missouri Blue Ribbon Trout Slam. Legend has it that these fish, living un stocked and wild in this stream for about 100 yrs, are the geneticly purest form of McCloud River Redband Trout left in the US. I explored the history, the legend, and the DNA proof of this claim. Oct 2023.
Fly-fishing On The Big Thompson River
Просмотров 726Год назад
I went fly-fishing with Bryan Brennan from Lost Outfitters of Estes Park Colorado. The river was high, and the current was fast due to unusually high snowfall this winter, followed by heavy rain showers over the past few weeks (early June 2023). We fished for 3 hours, netted over a dozen, and I missed several times that amount until I got back into the groove of setting the hook on small flys.....

Beaver Trapping 101-The Basic sets Part 4 - Double Dam Break Beaver Set
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.Год назад
The double dam break beavers set is a go-to summer damage control set for beavers. They are very aware of rising and falling water levels, so this set is very effective in the drier months. Once you've caught all the beavers in the area, the breaks will no longer get fixed. Be aware that an old wary beaver might take longer to catch.... make sure that you've caught at leat 2 adult beaver at all...

Some were rifled to shoot the James round, but most were smooth-bore. The M1841 was the most common feild artillery piece in the Civil War.

Precision Rifle Brass Prep- Part 2 Cut to Length, Chamfer & De-Burr
Просмотров 3 тыс.2 года назад
In order to get the proper neck tension, and constant depth while turning case necks, you must trim the case for length, then chamfer and de-burr the case mouths. This process only needs to be re-done if the case overall length grows past the maximum allowed case length. Refer to Saami Specs for the cartridge you are reloading for thar information. Once completed, you can expect several reloadi...
Precision Rifle Brass Prep- Part 1 Weighing Brass
Просмотров 8512 года назад
Step one in precision prep of virgin Lapua 6.5 PRC brass. By weighing the cases, you eliminate the odd cases that have more or less brass in the manufacturing process. Starting with brass of the same manufacturer, better yet the same lot, you have a greater chance of having superbly consistant case volume, and neck tension. This means your powder will fill and burn in the same size container ti...

I would rather use stp oil treatment sparingly rather than shove it up a sheeps butt, the heavier the viscosity, the better the metal wil draw, regardless of the metal involved
I was dragging the net to understand why on this online MBR calculator the sights height increases it (and btw the conception of the M16 and its high mounted sigths) and I’ve found the answer in your video. The ideal sights height is the half of the MBR tunnel diameter, when the barrel is at the perfect bottom of it. So you can extended it by being out of the tunnel on short ranges, by puting sights/optics higher. What ARs owners actually do, with the caveat of covered shootings hiting protections / walls / etc Just wanted to share my thoughts about it, that’s really counter-intuitive and bothered me. Low sights are not better. Damn you, ARs !
Looks like a 1/2 scale six Pounder to me. I have a true 1/3 scale six pounder, and it is smaller for sure, with a one inch bore. If you want more fun at night, put a wad of steel wool on top of the charge!
I learned a lot from this, excellent video!
Great video, So how have the pups progressed?
Tried this and having issues because i load in my workshop that isnt climate controlled. In the winter now i went out to do some sizing and the lanolin was turned into a solid chunk at the bottom. Kind of a pain in the ass if i have to literally bring the bottle inside and warm it up somehow go be able to size
Put a quarter inch nut in your bottle to keep it agitated
For sale?
Looking forward to an update. What are your thoughts on loading 22 TCM with the 62gr ELD-VT for a 1-7"/1-8" TC Contender? I'm thinking for proof of concept. Ideally I'd like to see it in a pistol carbine like you are showing. 224 Boz and 225 JAWS being the other candidates.... Something that can edge out the 5.7 in a grip-fed carbine.
I think the contender idea will be a hit! You might have to get the chamber throat adjusted for the longer ogive. You wouldn't want it to be crammed against rifling to snugly and load hot. The limiting factor for the cartridge in my eyes is the magazine length on most firearms that currently shoot the cartridge. If they had designed the rifle to take a different magazine that allowed for pointed bullets, I think the 22TCM story would be different.
Yeah, one rock in a bag ain't gonna cut it.
WTF is a "drownder""?? I never knew that "drown" was "drownd". One Handed Setters... The man is from Vermont.
Hey Rod, love your videos man. Lots of tips. Whats your go to brand of beaver lure?? Thanks man cheers
Thanks for the video I am going to try this anyway we can save a couple of bucks here and there
I stopped setting in the breaks I make. I use a castor mound (or just a stick with castor lure on it) a few feet away. That gets their attention before they touch the break. I must admit, your "shelf" at the break is a genius way to do it. Seems everybody throws a MB-750 or TS-85 right in the break and they wonder why it's set off with no beaver. Well done and well explained, sir!
I'll be excited for an update on this 22tcm. I've had not much luck.
I have searched for Liquid Lanolin everywhere locally including chain drug stores like CVS, Walgreens, etc as well as local mom & pop drug stores. I have also looked at health and nutrition stores as well as feed and seed stores, tractor supply, etc.. Can't find lanolin oil anywhere locally.
NOW Solutions, Liquid Lanolin Pure, Intense Protection, Formulated for Dry Rough Lips and Skin, 4-Ounce a.co/d/ciLCssN I get mine from Amazon.
try e-bay. no problem findin it there
Thanks!

Thank You I'm very excited to see what you come up with in your load development
Very informative. Thank you John with helping explain, demonstrate, and teach safe conservation methods.
How Ginger and the boys doing?
Good material and a timely delivery before deer season! Thanks Rod!
Thanks for watching! Glad to spread some wisdom!
Great job my friend!
Thank you sir!
That is very cool information my friend! Thank you fr sharing!
I grew up I the late 40’s and the 50’s fishing the Big Thompson. Would even ride my bicycle up the canyon fro zLoveland. Taught myself to fly fish. Had many great experiences there and that was long before the first flood. Would love to go through those days sgzin
When I watched the sets being made I was skeptical, but I always like to see what others do and most importantly, see the results. Seems that footholds get sprung often enough for everyone, too often for me too. Any sprung trap is too often in ADC work. I also use CDR's, when I have to as a back up, and hate to admit, but have sprung traps more than I would like. And, you got they right. They are dangerous, powerful. Getting old now so have to more careful. The setters are made by Dave Shelton of Manchester, Vt., called One Handed Setters. Watching you use them, I think I need to get a set, soon. We actually went to swim through cage traps 13 years ago and run a very high success rate, much better percentages than footholds by a wide margin and even better than conibears too, Weldon fired without a catch. We are nearing 2,000 beaver catches, so I know they work.
Why not just get a 3 way trimmer bevel taper for your trim pro ?
Who makes that shovel and where do I get one ?

That looked like a great time and beautiful scenery! I've only been to Colorado in the fall elk hunting! Thank you for sharing my friend and Good luck with everything!
Great tips! I use a similar stick for water trapping! Makes life so much easier! Thank you for sharing my friend!
Great video. Question for you once you resize them do you tumble them again to remove the lube from it or just leave it on since it's a small amount of lube?
Yes, retumble
For maximum distance the barrel should be at 45 degrees.
*PromoSM* 💯
Thank you for the education.👍👍
You might consider getting some good brass, I haven't had to touch my 6 creedmoor Hornady brass primer pockets, my Lyman uniformer just spins when I try to remove any excess because they're perfect right from the factory.
Ok youre on the right path but you need to decide how thick you want the case neck otherwise neck tension is uneven. Do the entire case neck 100%
Neck size bushing takes care of that
Good information
Great video thanks
Great, informative video!!
The cases will have a different weight after trimming. Should have trimmed first and weighed second. Oh well, back to the weighing in part one.
One thing I always laugh at is when people are fishing at night on a boat and a beaver smacks it's tail, they think it's Bigfoot throwing boulders at them. Go to any Bigfoot reporting website, and there's all kinds of people reporting. Like it was bigfoot telling them the lake was private property.
that bug on the camera made me think i had a bug on my monitor
can it kill squirrell?
Too much work... grab some mud throw it up and grab some castor and go... also would of moved that trap closer atleast 4 -6 inches away from the mound
Wait!... our esteemed Prez has said repeatedly that you can't have one! Lol
That just cannot possibly get old! When I was a kid my father and I finished out a carbide Canon kit. You know, the one that used to be in the back of American Hunter magazines that you get from the NRA. We had some wonderful times with that thing and it just doesn't seem to compare to something like this. The guy did a beautiful job on your canon! If I might ask though, It only seemed as though your shooting partner tamped the ball down the muzzle 4 or 6 in. Why so shallow? God bless you both and stay safe!
GM Trapper Rod, just wanted you to know when the neck turning is done I use over sized socket like 3/4” or larger stuffed with fine steel wool in drill which cleans, deburrs, and smooths out the prepped end real nice! Give it a try I think you like it?
Hey rod! I’m around the rolla area! Anywhere close to me?
I'm over near KC...
Do you have to purchase a size up in boots to fit over the stocking foot ?
What is the name of the turning tool? Thanks
It's a Sinclair International turning tool... They were bought by Brownells years ago but still maintain the precision tools on a separate web site.
