Why Children of Men is More Relevant Than Ever Before
As others have noted, the film ending is beautiful and disturbing and without conclusion. The two remaining leading figures are worn-out and shell-shocked. The accompanying music is equally mysterious and without resolution. Wonderful in every way. Hats off to the cast, especially Barbara Shelley.
Men in silly suits was only one of the sci-fi market. Aliens in a good portion of sci-fi media in the 30's,40's, 50's, and 60's were truly alien. Super video. Thank you.
A lot of effort went into that cityscape. What you have to remember is films tell stories, films aren't out to be real because they can never be real.
I had never thought about the numbers that way before.
19 year olds back in the 1970's were a lot more mature than 19 year olds now.
The Runners are looking for a sanctuary when they already live in a sanctuary.
It's easy to miss but Jimmy's sister is seen again after the attack. She's one of the looters being detained at the tennis club, guarded by the infamous traffic warden. The actress now plays Bernie Winters in Coronation Street!
When this was on TV it was shit scary especially those public announcements telling you to make a fall out shelter in the middle of your house with doors those announcements were real during the early 1980's. This is why we should keep out of the Ukraine.
I had a great idea with all the money Elon musk has do you think it would be possible to build and launch an eagle One from space 1999 into space and use it like a transport start building eagles to fly around in space
I’ve seen both the movie and the 6 part BBC series. The series moves at a slower pace - naturally, as it was 3 hours total versus 1 hr 37m for the movie - and I found it dragged at times. However, because of the extra length, the series was able to explain more, and there was a “proper” ending. At a news conference, Quatermass warns that there may be more such ancient spacecraft buried around world, representing an ongoing threat of “martianization” of people within range of each craft. I preferred the pace of the movie which really picks up in the second half. The sudden ending left me wondering “what the hell just happened?”, a question I presume I share with Quatermass and Barbara as we watch them standing, exhausted, distraught, bewildered, disbelieving . . . Thank you for posting your thoughts and review of a movie that has haunted me since I first saw it, over 50 years ago.
I think you have to watch both. For me they don't compete with each other they complement each other.
We watched it at school i think i was 12
I'm 8 months late. This was great. Please keep going. Do more. Thankyou.
Part of the attraction of Thunderbird 2 = It will rescue you and there is room in it for you. You can play a part in deploying all that cool stuff. And Virgil is cool.
I remember the story which broke on Newsround in the 80s of a copper who locked himself into the cells because he picked up one of the canisters carried by the green nuclear transporter which was marked with a radiation hazard sticker.
I only found out about this story after I made the video. I bet he felt both relieved and utterly embarrassed at the same time. Thanks for watching my video !!!
Found your channel through the Threads video about an hour ago, then saw this upload by pure chance. Honest to god just what I need to bring me back after such a harrowing film/video essay. Thunderbirds is my FAVOURITE TV show of all time. It looks like I have a series of videos to watch now!!
I hope the series makes you feel better my friend that threads video was hard to make and harder to watch so I know how you feel. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
This movie has haunted me for years. It remains a fascination for me though, no other film ive seen even comes close to it. Ive only seen it once though, the rest of my 'viewings' have been through video documentaries like this. Great video!
That massive red piece of kit that he needs help to carry from TB1 ... is it just a very big radio?
The mobile control it is used to coordinate the rescue operation and it was used in the film to activate the escape unit on the zero x but yes you are right it is basically just a big radio. To make matters worse we often see rescues conducted without the need for it and sometimes Scott will just be seen just using a walkie talkie.
Thanks, enjoyed your synopsis of the Thunderbirds! My personal favorite was Thunderbird 2 and Scot my favorite brother. I heard that Scott's appearance was based on James Garner, which made sense to me since Anderson was trying to appeal to American audiences. But I could believe a young Sean and James were both inspiration for Scott.
I didn’t know that !!! It makes a lot of sense though. Thanks for watching!!!
And sadly we end on my least favourite of the machines, that comment was so true and exactly why I never loved TB1! Great video as always though! I can sympathise with Mrs Sci-Fi as my wife also has to watch a lot of stuff she has no interest with me haha
Thanks for watching @VCMR you legend!!!! I have had to give plenty of bribes to Mrs sci-fi over the past 5 weeks 😂
Well Bloody Hell! Least Germans didn't bomb the shitsnot out of England. FICTIONAL movie. Not to be taken seriously
If they'd managed to get a live-action Thunderbirds movie back in the late 80s/early 90s, I would've wanted to see Tom Cruise as Scott... Move Or You're Dead is by far the best overall episode in my opinion. I've seen it three times. Once on first broadcast and I was on the edge of my seat... then, on the BBC2 revival around 2000 and fairly recently... stunning story telling and brilliant rolling road effects for the racing scenes. Yes, as a five year old the launches were WONDERFUL! As a sixty-five year, jaded and tired of life, the launches STILL don't disappoint. Really. They truly had lightning in a bottle with Thunderbirds - except for the annoying kids. They were ALWAYS annoying.
Thank you so much for getting me hooked on Thunderbirds are Go! I'm hoping to meet my Parker someday!
Thank you for watching my friend it was an absolute pleasure to introduce you to Thunderbirds!!! Wait and see what I have for you next
Still giggling at psychotic speeder... A fantastic and fitting conclusion to what has been a very polished, clever, and wholly enjoyable series. The fact that this is the last in there series also brings with it a tinge of sadness. As others have already said, I hope you do more. Your work is intelligent, engaging, and totally absorbing. I hope we all get the opportunity to hear a lot more from you and this channel. In the meantime, congratulations, and very well done. It's been a FAB journey 😎👌👍
Thank you @LeahRebeccaUK have said it before and I will say it again this series would not have been the same without your support so thank you 🙏 I am looking forward to bringing you lots more !!!
@@thedeclineandfallofbritishsci You really are very welcome. It's been a pleasure to be able to assist you and I hope I have the opportunity to do so again soon 😎
What about "Thunderbird 6" (aka Tiger Moth)? I'll have to admit when, in the late 60s, I saw the Thunderbird six movie, I was disappointed. Will you follow up with the vehicles of "Fireball X-15", "Stingray", "Captain Scarlet", "U.F.O" or any of Gerry Anderson's series? (In addition to Thunderbird 1, and 2 (with 4), in my youth I also had some of the Spectrum videos. As always, thank you so very much for the videos.
I’ve had so much fun with this series I’ll definitely be revisiting Gerry Anderson very soon , I even have an Idea for a video on the SPV. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel !!!
Great series, great thanks ❤. Another role for Scott is to gather intelligence at the danger zone as he is first to arrive.
Great vid. DrZ🙏🏻
DrZ you legend!!! Thanks for watching and for all the support you show the channel !!!
4th....what do you mean 4th. Thunderbird 1 is the best! Also you ask why was it a rocket plane? Well, the fastest plane ever ( that has been declassified) was the Bell X-15 hypersonic Rocket plane. It just makes sense as no air breathing plane is ever going to go that fast ( as an example, the Dark star in Top gun maverick goes Mach 10, that's 7672.7 MPH, less than half the speed of the mighty TB1). Anyway, great video dude, keep up the good work
4th behind Tb4 Tb2 and Tb3 🐵. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel I’ve had so much fun with this series and you Gerry Anderson fans are such a great fandom. Tb1 is the closest to perfect looking and even in the 2015 series still turns heads.
2 mins early! T1 is my fav TB! FAB!
The war game is another masterpiece.
The eagle is a believable vehicle you could see working on the moon in real life
The Eagle always looked like it could actually be practical. Its in my top 3 Space ships the others being the Enterprise refit from TMP & the Normandy from Mass Effect.
TB1 = Jeremy Clarkson TB2 = James May
What a god damb great spacecraft ! And Elon can you please also after that make the Liberator ?
Thunderbird 2 is very much the Enterprise D, big and cuddly, there to help through thought before violence. Though her carrying the other vehicles also reminds me of the Phoenix from Battle of the Planets/G-Force. T4, the D, the Phoenix are the home away from home.
TB1 gets there first , all Scott does is put some cones out NO ONE GETS RESCUED , until the big Green Bird gets There!!! Virgil was the MVP and the GOAT
That comment made me literally LOL 😂 because it’s so true !!! challenge accepted for the Thunderbird 1 video now 🤣
The only reason TB1 needs to go out first is so they know what pod TB2 should bring.
I've always felt sorry for John and Alan, probably more than I should. It's a rotten gig and why the hell do they have to wear their uniforms when they're out there? It's always seemed like a misstep by the show to require the satellite to be manned. Two years before the show was created the world saw that signals were being bounced off Telstar. I can't believe Jeff thinks it's a good idea for two of his sons to spend half their lives there. Sorry, I'm getting worked up again.
I make an argument that keeping Alan up there 6 months out of the year makes sense in my Thunderbird 3 video but I can’t make any excuses for keeping John up there 😂 You are right though and why make us wait until UFO before giving us an unmanned satellite. Thanks for watching and feel free to get as worked up as you want that’s what the comment section for 🤣
Of course Thunderbird 2 is the coolest thing ever! Come on so great it even carries the next best Thunderbird....Thunderbird 4. Though Lady P's pink Rolls was damn cool to me as a kid in the 60s even if it was pink.
I named fab 1 my favourite Gerry Anderson vehicles once….I lived to regret it though 😂 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
I love it when Thunderbird 2 comes in to land! The way she fires her boosters, creating a lot of white smoke. And then the way she emerges from the smoke. It's beautiful.
Utterly iconic television when it did that.
TB3 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
TB4 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love it bro, really enjoying these deep dives, they bring me right back to my childhood. My favouritie as a kid was always TB2, had all the toys and it was by far the best one other than Tracy Island! Can't wait for the last video in this series to drop.
Thanks mate am glad you enjoyed it !!! You had to rub it in about Tracy island though didn’t you 😂😂😂
@@thedeclineandfallofbritishsci if it makes you feel any better I got it a year after it was cool haha
I had to wait 30 years for my one 😂
@@thedeclineandfallofbritishsci did you try and make the Blue Peter one?
No but you just gave me an idea for my Christmas special
Every time I watch one of your deep delves, I always learn something new. I sit watching with a silly grin on my face, and I catch myself nodding a lot. I adore your examination of the characterisations of each of the Tracey brothers and the revelations you make that I hadn't even thought about before. I'm enjoying the University of Thunderbirds, but mostly I'm enjoying your observational presentations of a world that was such a big part of my childhood. FAB work 😎🤗❣️
Always happy to put a silly grin on your face 😁 Thank you @LeahRebeccaUK for watching and enjoying my video your support means so much 😊
I loved Thunderbird's, and I was old enough to enjoy it in the 60s. Plus I was fortunate enough to be a native Californian who started school in England. My favorite was Thunderbird 4, but I also enjoyed Thunderbird 2. I had a metal Thunderbird 2, which came with four in a pod. I also had a spectrum pursuit vehicle, and Fireball X15. So yeah, I was a fan of Gerry Anderson and didn't know it. (I may have had more vehicles; but it was long ago.) As always, thank you so very much for the video. And thank you - I didn't know about the "Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds" album cover.
I’ve said this before but I envy your generation getting to watch all those great shows the first time around. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
Of all the gerry anderson series Thinderbirds was and allways will be the most iconic. Even now some 60yrs on i still love watching the series and enjoying the exploits of the Tracey brothers. You have really done it proud with your inimitable syle and excellent knowledge.
Thanks for watching I really appreciate your support.
Seen it 20 or thirty times. Never looses its impact. There is a threads survivors group on facey.
I loved the moral of the story. It's hard work to be a hero, and you better pay attention to your elders to get there! I'm loving Thunderbirds
Thank you kindly mam.
Brilliant video as always. Loving this series bro. Brings me right back to my childhood as I had always these as toys and would watch the show on vhs and re-runs religiously!
Thanks for watching dude !!! And thanks for supporting the channel!!!
Threads brought me here 🫤 Glad I got the downer out of the way 😅
I hope this one cheers you up because I know how depressing people find the threads video.
@@thedeclineandfallofbritishsci Yeah I subbed, I love finding tiny channels and watching them blow up 😁
My dad has a story of seeing dummy warheads fall (mirv tests) and thinking that it was all actually going down when he was stationed at Beale during the cold war. You can find practice drop footage here on yt I think... They look like meteorites that impact the ground... but the real ones don't hit the ground, they detonate in the air. So imagine seeing a falling glowing dot than instantly being blinded and burned... all in silence until the wave front hits... I have no idea. I don't wanna know. The vast majority of people aren't prepared...
Dang.
pps it's bloody orange! 😉
I think I keep calling it res because in my head I’m picturing the matchbox toy I had as a kid 😂

ps still giggling at 'directly up the rear end' of TB3 😳🤔😂
Thank you @LeahRebeccaUK. Don’t you worry mate I’ve got another 2 episodes in this series and lots more to come after that !!!
😂 I just couldn’t think of a politer way of saying it tbh
