I am a 66 year old keyboardist, who has seen it all, done it all blah blah....then I discovered the following people. JD and Domi, Moonchild, Knower and Snarky Puppy. This was about three years ago. It was definitely life altering. In my day my heroes were Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Jan Hammer and Joe Zawinul. Mahavishnu Orch, Return to Forever and they all inspired me to play. And improve. Then I reached a level that was up there in the heavens where the only people to play with were dithering around with three chords, rock and roll and sh*t like that. So I took my skills into education. Then three years ago Moonchild came to RUclips. I was blown away with Amber's voice and the skills that the band demonstrated. This lead to all the rest of the gang. They are all part of the same scene. Fortunately. They are spawning with each other, creating technically magnificent material, with small and large ensembles. In return for their glorious music I have started practicing again. Working against metronomes, and composing too for a mate who plays sax. Wild jazz, stupid time sigs. And it's all down to today's youth. I'm truly inspired. The only thing I regret is not being 50 years younger to get a piano lesson from Domi.

Check out Jacob Collier, we're lucky to live during the lifetime of a certified genius.... your man Herbie once asked him, "what the hell was that chord?"
His ability to use not just Perfect Pitch, but microtonal perfect pitch, combined with vocal arrangements where he usually has more than 300 tracks (he does walkthroughs of his work in Logic Pro), the ability to reharmonize in unbelievable ways, massive keyboard chops along with amazing abilities on other instruments... See Joon Lee's interviews with him to go deep...

(cont.) start with these for Jacob Collier, and imagine being raised from a baby being asked, "how does that SOUND make you FEEL"?
      ruclips.net/video/4PIMR_oGRcU/видео.html (Jobim would be proud)
and how does a 20 something write this, that isn't 120 years old (listen to the lyrics. yeah, that's mom in the orchestra and the quartet above...):
      ruclips.net/video/OFVVRyFH1vs/видео.html

Spud and his band Ghost Note have done several of these sessions with different drummers sitting in. Larnel Luis is now the drummer in Snarky Puppy. Spud now does Ghost Note. The cool bassist is the one from Prince's band. Spud is terrific in arranging and orchestrating music. JD Beck is very similar to Jojo Myere in playing style. Example: going to see Vulfpeck at Red Rocks (all virtuoso musicians), and this band called Khruangbin opened for them. That snare is so dry, it sounds like a super fast synth blip or something. Great texture to it!
EDIT - Hey, the guy at the end in the black Zildjian shirt is Matt Greiner from August Burns Red. He must have done his session around the same time.

Both with musical tracks produced by him and with a live drum for the video. He also has a vic faith and zigdjian video worth checking out. Another video I'd like to recommend is Devon stikk taylors vic firth video from about 2 years ago.

He's got small splashes on his snare and toms, gives them a more distorted synthetic sound. tried it before but if your snare isn't perfectly even they just slide everywhere(unless you tape em I guess). This guy reminds me of a young IIan Rubin.

The cymbal's on the drums reminds me of trying to get that sampled drum sound…because often times when sampling drums like snare or kicks u’d have a cymbal or high hat on it…that’s become such a staple in the sound of music that creative acoustic players do this type of thing…super cool

I wonder if they actually wrote that performance into music notes/sheets first? I bet that drummer must be touched his first kits around below 5yo. How many times did he practice for that performance or he did that just like spontaneous jamming? Damn that was, too many notes to hit. Wth.. superb!!!
