@@jesiahwaldner1609 Its usually by year three that you really start filling out the farm and adding actually interesting prospects to the organization, so thats when you start seeing the plan come together and things become less "god we have NOTHING" and more "just a few more years". Thats when rebuilds get exciting. The first two years though when you're just treading water hoping the few guys you do have can develop a little are a lot less fun, therefore, my two years guess. Ive always found that the hardest part of a rebuild is starting it. The one benefit of rebuilding the A's tho is that Cane doesn't have to deal with any albatross contracts and can build the roster he wants from the ground up.
@@jesiahwaldner1609I mean 2 good drafts and you could end up with 2 generational players (unlikely) but you can find mlb ready players with like 85 potential pretty easily , they’re usually 21 or 22 and can be called up immediately or spring training plus there’s plenty of C potential players that are also mlb ready already in the 70s but not gonna get much better , any prospects would help this team but going for 50-60 overall with high 90s potential doesn’t make sense to me , canes gonna have a good pick he’s gonna get a mlb ready player in a year or 2 and if he drafts good and this draft is alright then he could easily find 2-3 players that can be called up in a year or 2 .
Really enjoyed putting this one together. I know the first game drags on a bit, but the pace picks up after a few innings. I'm ready for the biggest rebuilding challenge I've done in The Show.
It definitely is going to be rough lol. I went the opposite way and am doing my Braves. My rule is I am only allowed 1 trade per season and they have to be 80 or under, young, with A potential. My first season I went with Bobby Whit Jr. To replace Vaughn Grissom. 80 ovr with 99 speed. Just started my 2nd season (after winning the WS in 7 games over the Astros) and I got lucky in the draft with 2 SP and a CF (to replace Ozuna after his contract expires) at A or B potential and mid 60s overall at 18 or 19 YO. I only want to build through my farm system. But even with those rules, the Braves are easy mode. I'm going to have to work hard on position players eventually but pitching is pretty set for a good while with Ian Anderson at A potential and Ynoa with B and both 25 yo.
Hey Cane, I think doing a series on football manager 23 would be interesting. I know your not the biggest soccer/football fan but I’m not either and still have fun playing the game.
Since you’re making the custom stadium you should play it to your advantage with the field dimensions, make it really hard for other teams to hit home runs so they have to play your contact game or whatever other advantage you choose
Was at the opening day game last night. Decent size crowd once the game got going. It’s a shame cause the owner is one of the richest in baseball but refuses to invest in the team and the fans are still super loyal. Looking forward to this series. Let’s Go Oakland!
fun fact: Fujinami and Ohtani played in Japan at the same time, but rarely if ever played each other because their teams where in two different Leagues. Fujinami played for the Hanshin Tigers in the Central League, while Ohtani played for the Hokkaido Fighters in the Pacific League. The only time they would have ever faced each other would be during the NPB's Inter-Leagues Month.
They actually did play each other at a younger age in a tournament in High School. Ohtani hit a homer on Fujinami but he also gave up 9 runs and Fujinami's team went on to win the championship.
Cane, I absolutely love the effort you put in to making these series so detailed and realistic, it's what makes you stand out in such a competitive content creator space. I'm glad you're taking on the massive challenge of the As, I'm sure it'll be fun. On another note, as an Ms fan, all I can think of whenever I see Acevedo is "the pitch from Acevedo, HIGH DRIVE TO DEEP RIGHT FIELD" from the Ms drought breaker last year.
Not gonna lie, This series hit me immediately within the first 10 minutes. Your reaction to missing the strike zone was so genuine that I became excited as hell. Can't wait to binge watch this. I wish i had the patience to do what you do with rebuilding. Teach me!
im a mariners fan so it'll be fun watching the al west on your channel. hope you keep it as realistic as possible but i know that's personal preference. good luck! you picked maybe the most entertaining option i can think of for your general audience as a whole
Also, note about Fujinami and Ohtani. Apparently, they went against each other in 2012 in the National Baseball Championship of Japan as high schoolers.
Can't wait for the series! You can do manual injuries within franchise mode: Then in franchise go to the IL screen and hit R1 and it will take you to the player list where you can give injuries to players and then assign them to the IL. You can do this for all 30 teams even if you are only controlling the A's if you want to mimic real life season ending injuries
At first I was going to comment saying that you should use the pitch meter, but hearing your explanation makes a lot of sense, and sounds fun especially for the viewers. I love playing sports games and acting as a gm, props to you bro you have a dream job for a lot of sports fans that play video games.
I believe the quick manage should be a core to the series at some point! You can manage a full game in about 5 minutes, meaning you could go through a whole series in less than 20 minutes irl. And doing this keeps you from dealing with the simulation gods and you can manage a bullpen/bench over the course of a series to "reset" your guys a bit
With this being a rebuild from the ground up, I would love to see a lot more of the minors and developing them throughout the series, perhaps streaming those games. Great work cane! Excited for more
I wish I could rebuild like you do lol I got the settings and everything on an MLB 20 franchise. I wanna get like your Twins rebuild or Rockies. It looks so fun, man. But I don’t have any idea about the MLB really and I’m through one season and I’m out of money.
Idk if you can relocate trams during a playthrough but it could be neat to see the A's go the way of the Raiders. But all and all looking forward to seeing how you do in this series
I am also doing my own Oakland athletics franchise finally and the pain in your voice on the pitching is priceless. Trust me it’s a struggle with this franchise. I had to trade rooker based off I just could not hit with the dude.
What's up Cane, just wanted to say I'm really enjoying your rebuild so far. I'm actually trying the same thing myself with the Reds, so good luck brother I'll definitely be watching!!!
As someone who’s got into baseball in the last two years & enjoys MLB the Show, I find this very helpful & therapeutic to watch! Will be starting my own Franchise with the Blue Jays & taking tips from this franchise 😁
It’ll definitely be tough especially this year, but I do feel like Vidal Brujan from the Rays would be a perfect edition to this Moneyball 2.0 team when it comes time to trade our veterans. Maybe if the Rays are good and need relievers, we can package May and a few veterans to help out Moneyball East for Brujan who’s buried in Tampa
That was tough to watch. I think as fans we're gonna need some fun food promotions every once in a while to endure this rebuild! How about $3 Saturday Sandwiches?
Hi cane! I’m very excited for this series I’ve always wanted you to do something like this on the second channel. But just an FYI, Jeurys Familia’s first name is pronounced “Jay-Reece” I am a Mets fan lmao and he was so shaky even in his prime. Scared me to death watching him close games for us 😭
I do my franchise settings like that too more of a team building stat based focused set. I use the analog timing based batting though where you pull back to start the swing and forward to swing it but not the one where pulling back is for power.
Definitely you have your work cut out for you. However, looking forward to seeing what all you can and or will do with this team. Don't really play any recent and or modern games, so this is a good way for me to experience something that does look very interesting vicariously. Take care and best of luck going forward. Looking forward to the journey.
Looking at that top 50 prospects, I was at the Syracuse Mets and Worcester Red Sox game yesterday. Francisco Alvarez is LEGIT. As long as the Mets don't screw up his development, he's going to be a BEAST.
Cane! A fun reliever to try and add at some point in the series would be Seattle’s Matt Brash! Played college ball with him and the kids a stud, would be fun to use for sure with a wipeout breaker
Cane, as far as I know the broadcast view disappeared in 22 and it’s not back in 23, the best you can do is press R3 once one of the defenders catches the ball, that way the camera focuses on it. PS- The team that you described building is pretty much your division rivals Cleveland Guardians - least amount of homeruns last season in the MLB, a few speedy player, a great switch hitter and very consistent pitching.
I agree I like to see accuracy in stats as well. I might try timing instead of zone hitting get rid of pci? I have auto fielding on I noticed errors don’t seem to be enough I turned them up to 7 in sliders. Also they don’t seem to be stealing enough for me this year but the CPU does I have the stealing slider turned up to 10.
Great stuff! Started up an As fantasy franchise to play alongside this one, same Oakland archetype with tiny budget & emphasis on scouting, but with the entire shakeup. Look forward to seeing how things progress 💯👌
Absolutely love this series so far. I thought you played on all star in mlb 21 so that could explain the hitting woes? I could be remembering that wrong
With the way I’ve seen draft picks develop so far in this game, maybe we can get an all-time channel great here in Oakland, get some butts in seats for the first time in years. I give you a bunch of crap on your madden stuff Cane, but I love your content man, can’t wait to see where this series goes 😂
There's only one real bright spot for the Angels fans watching this series; Trout and Ohtani have the chance at being part of a World Series winning team
Hey Cane, I think doing a series on football manager 23 would be interesting. I know your not the biggest soccer/football fan but I’m not either and still have fun playing the game.
In the upcoming free agencies, Harold Castro has very good contact both against righties and lefties, Can play anywhere except Catcher. Although not very fast. He just puts the ball in play
If you haven't tried it yet, try quick manage for the games you want to simulate quickly. It allows you to keep control of your team but keep games to about 5 minutes...
Great franchise to start rebuilding. Excited to do my own rebuilding while watching your videos at the same time! Also how do you turn on catcher suggestions for pitches? I had it on last year but can’t remember how to set it on!
I understand not wanting pitching to be based on your skill but I’ve found that even decent pitchers throw with poor accuracy without using pulse or the meter. Maybe something to look at in the future as there’s still some element of randomness with the other pitch types.
It's cool that you'll make a stadium. But try to wait until at least year 3, maybe 4. It'll be more fitting if you debut the stadium with some young stars beginning their career

While doing this rebuild, I’d suggest not trying to shift your focus when scouting towards just speed and contact, make sure to try to and develop some power hitters within, guys who can become run producers, and can be flipped for prospects down the line, don’t try to box your team into one identity is what I’m trying to say, embrace the chaos of the players you get, and I’m sure you’ll use them right
If you use analog flick instead of buttons there is less input lag. I swapped and I have much better timing. I find It’s easier to check swing as well.
Love the Mull-dozer, Tyler Soderstrom should start either 1st or LF or RF and then start Shea at Catcher and try to develop my boy Christian Pache the kid can be special. I’m a Braves fan all the way but I’m excited for the rebuild.
To get good players, you gotta trade good players. Problem is: this roster has AAA vibes. So really, I don’t know how Cane will do it. Drafting for sure, but that’ll take a while. Patience, patience. It’s going to be a good episode when Cane will pick a win. Let’s try to get 60 wins. Maybe 65.
Hey Cane, you should try to trade for Nate Pearson of the blue jays, he’s a good young pitcher who has been plagued with injuries, and would be a perfect player to give a chance in a rebuild like this
This new scouting system is tough. Has the 8th pick as the royals and drafted a RP that was 100% scouted with 84-99 potential. Signed him for $5m and turns out he has 76 potential and only a 61
Well, the first two years of this will be painful, can’t wait till you start finding the guys to turn the A’s around Cane!
2 years? I think you might need to increase that a couple more, terrible farm system, terrible mlb roster

100% agree make the field a pitcher’s park and have large gaps for easier triples and such with the speed
Here's a small suggestion. Try to have only one reliever in the setup role. When you simulate, they won't get very many innings otherwise.
Great call
