Have you guys actually reached out to Mick? Perhaps he's just waiting for two handsome/objective australian game journalists to give him a call. ;)
Wait a minute everyone gets 2 months free whether with this link or not :/
Lamon, you guys missed the point about the outrage. It’s not about just having Kernel access (even though that has been dialled back from Vista onwards), it’s that it opens a back door into your OS via bugs in the software.
I don’t mind giving it to NVidia because they’re a huge company and I need their drivers to run everything; I do mind giving it to a single game company over software I only use for a relatively tiny amount of time.
@Nobody Jones In the future, you'll need to buy a 'Modder License' from Beth to mod your games.
If this is running at kernel level it probably is also collecting data to sell later.

Quick tip for those trying to get a refund for 2+ hours of played game time on Steam. Tip: go to Help, then Steam Support, then select Purchases, then select Doom Eternal then select "I have questions about this purchase". From there type out you're grievance regarding this new software politely (a human is gonna read this btw) then state that it's the reason you want a refund as the refund system does not allow you to explain this problem. I was able to get a refund to my steam wallet after being unsuccessful in the standard refund method. This isn't a 100% guaranteed tip but might increase your chance at a refund even if it's in Steam bucks. Good luck y'all, and don't buy shit from Bethesda anymore if you're unhappy with this.

Steam approved my refund beyond the 2 hour limit.

"Protecting monetization in single player" -> don't give them their $60 either.
Before, it was just fun entertainment in long long list of modern entertainments. But as greed keeps driving many AAA into these exploits it turns into a serious moral dilemma. Creating addiction-based mobile trash, or injecting this into single player games is not just another way to make a game - it is evil. Buying it - is participating. If they roll this out it becomes moral duty to destroy it, so the kids of the future don't get exploited. Skinner-box like game designed to addict and then milk its victim may harm most users only slightly, which would be a cause enough. But even worse, for the vulnerable, it is as bad as introducing gambling in every grocery shop. It's an ever accessible costly addiction.
Well Interactive entertainment requires interactive monetization eh?
To be honest PC and console games are still semi decent monetization wise. Doubly so after lootboxes got nuked from most titles.
It's the mobile games that are in MTX hell right now and will be for the foreseeable future.

and what about EA it's been more that 2 years
Has it really only been 2 years? With so much negativity it feels much longer.
Zack Brooks EA hasn't been liked in over a decade at least
vellathewench I say almost two years since their e3 2018 was ripped pretty hard and many were skeptical of 76 too. 76 dropped in October that year to "mixed" reception. From that day onward is nothing but bad PR. Doom eternal was received well but outside its release lots of things have gone wrong.
I'd consider their bad PR longer if the consensus was that way. Fallout 4 and the PS3 version of skyrim weren't enough bad PR for the majority imo

If Bethesda really wanted to “test” the anti-cheat why not put it in the obvious multiplayer focused Fallout 76?
They added a battle pass to fallout 76 LMAO
They have the $100 a year sub as the solution for cheaters in Fallout 76. It would cost them revenue to beat cheaters for customers that only bought the game l. :/
Not enough people playing. Like they said it isn't actually supposed to stop cheating so it doesn't matter that basically nobody plays Eternal's MP. Bethesda just wants it on as many systems as possible and Doom is far and away the most popular game they have right now that they have any sort of excuse to slot Denuvo into.
Because 76 is already made and released .. to plug such anti-cheat into it would be a serious dev effort and won't complete in a month or two. This thing has to be there in the core architecture of the game and I bet with DOOM it was planned at a much earlier stage.
Because it would probably break the fragile engine of Fallout4- i mean Fallout76.
This is Bethesda we're talking about... The Bethesda that can't even patch Skyrim despite re-releasing it for everything... They just port it bugs and all and even manage to make more bugs with every re-release...
I however loved being slung thousands of feet in the air from a single blow from a giant.
Shit, they port the bugs to completely different games, let alone other iterations of the same..
Don't forget the "dragons" in Fallout 76. Sure why not just copy/past the dragon code and not change the name.
Accurate but this is Bethesda Softworks doing, not Bethesda Game Studios doing. BGS releases skyrim, fallout etc and they don't have any control or say over other studios under the Bethesda Softworks umbrella, aka id, machine games, arkane etc
Phone get out of here with your logic, reasoning and especially those facts we don’t need none of those around these parts. Go on get out, OUT.., shoo, shoo!!
I have 120 hours in Doom Eternal overall, and I can confirm that I have never been suspicious of any cheating in Battlemode.
I have ~156 hours and have encountered 3 cheaters so far. And they were VERY obvious using godmode, fly hacks, infinite ammo. Many others have reported the same.
Bethesda heard your cry and decided to help you guys out during these hard times. :)
And adds DAC into Fallout 76... Who knows, maybe they already did?
Battle Pass time
Okay, I'm going to see if I can have my emotion chemically removed.
We are truly blessed
Next thing you know, every Fallout 76 players got their computers locked out by a encryption malware 'NukeYoPC'.
It would say: "If you want your files back, pay a monthly fee of 1650 Atoms".
Marauder: "I'm the biggest pain in the ass that Doom: Eternal has to offer!"
Denuvo: "Hold my beer."
From what I've seen Denuvo made the Marauder even worse. Now he just kind of stares at you and politely waits for you to shoot him.

It's Bethesda, they should have been pirating the whole fucking time.

Single player games should never have DRM, and should never have Micro transactions
I dont think doom has any microtransactions, and it does have a multiplayer
@@saladv6069 However the multiplayer is not the reason anyone buys or plays the game.
They are testing anti cheat in all their future games. Take elder scrolls 6 for example; no more custom mods without going through the paid creation club and no more using console commands to spawn items like weapons, armor, gold or anything else that could prove to be a revenue loss from bethesda's in game booster pack microtransactions.
This is the pregame to toss micro/macrotransactions in all future games, including single player so they can track any modifications/cheats. Elder scrolls blades loot box mechanics will be coming to elder scrolls 6.
Denovo anti cheat assures bethesda will get their money.
@@kendan1839 Part of this is wishful thinking on my part that Bethesda aren't THAT stupid but ES6 sales on PC will tank if free mods aren't an option.
A single player Elder Scrolls without mod support on PC ceases to be an Elder Scrolls and 2K/Rockstar backed off their anti mod stance after backlash and they're making far more from MTX than Bethesda.
The riot that would explode if Bethesda blocked modding would make the GTA V one look like a hissy fit.

First Vanguard (Valorant), now Denuvo?
I love anti-cheat, however having that level of access into my computer is...pretty dangerous to say the least. I was gonna play Valorant (because it looks awesome to play). However, I like to preserve my security and not play it but enjoy the vods than download something that leaves my computer vulnerable and play the game itself.
Plus, this is Bethesda we are talking about here. I hope it doesn't happen, but they will find some way to fuck it up. It is not like people could pirate Doom Eternal on the first week of release. That is already setting a precedent.
Yeah I got valorant then found out about the anti cheat. I had to use command prompts to delete it
Next is league
Bethesda already fucked it up. Linux won't run Doom now, windows 7 won't run it, any notification during game like discord or steam achievements cause a crash, RGB keyboard and nice drivers are being blocked as cheats, another 30% fps drop, and more.
You do realise pretty much all decent anti-cheat runs at the that Kernel level? BattleEye, Easy Anti-cheat and I believe VAC all operate at Kernel level 0 the only difference is they only run when the game is running instead of all the time.
While operating 100% of the time would definitely pose a security threat, it is also possible to get one of these other programs to run remotely without the game application to achieve the same affect.
If your personal risk tolerance is simply not granting access to that level of Kernel, that rules out pretty much every popular multiplayer game. If you just don't want it running all the time, then that is fair
@@Phillz91 Yea, that is where I am coming from. I'm fine if I am playing the game, then yea it should run while I am playing. Now, if I'm watching RUclips and not playing the game, then I draw an issue in regards to security.
I guess to explain the concept of a what Kernel level driver means and why it's bad better than the Laymen here we go. I will be paraphrasing a little and might be wrong on some info. I usually have more in front of me when I explain these things. Basically the kernel is the heart of your OS. Anything at that level is running at the same level as your core OS functions. The x86 base for our modern OS originally wasn't prepared for the security issues we see now. So they devised the rings of trust concept. This supports the concept of least needed privilege a key cyber security principle. Basically I assign the function to the appropriate level so that it has the access it needs to do without giving it access to anything I feel is above its need. The issue is that ring 0 is usually a no no. Anything running at this level needs to be absolutely air tight. If you were to find an exploit that can access this it's Defcon 1. This is where the questions start. What vulnerabilities does this driver have? No software is completely flawless. Given enough eyes an exploit WILL be found. The real question is what access will that give and how viable of a threat vector will it be? The other problem is simply why? Anticheat shouldn't need this access. It should be fine with normal admin level access. It's been fine for decades why do we suddenly need to give a background process for games the most scrutinized level of access? This is where I get worried that Kernel level access could be a thing more software starts demanding. The principle of least privilege exists for a reason. I think the push back on this is completely legitimate. We should be rejecting this overreach. Hopefully this is revised before a major exploit is found and some serious damage is done.
TL:DR This driver works at the highest level of access and should be thrown back in Denuvo's face.
We've been through this before too. Every single time third-parties start screwing with kernel-level shit, they do it with no thought to security and _can't_ even do that if they wanted to because they aren't experts. If they were that kind of expert with the given OS, they wouldn't be working for an anti-cheat company, they'd be working for Microsoft/Apple/Ubuntu/The Linux Foundation/insert-other-companies-here.
This will end badly. Exploits will be found, they _won't_ get patched in a timely manner, then not at all because devs eventually drop supporting their games, and then anyone running these things when they've past that point are going to have gaping holes in their security they don't even know about.
Get the popcorn. This is going to be a disaster.
@@liesdamnlies3372 Unfortunately the landscape on these threats have changed. It's no longer a single person or small group looking for these exploits. Now you have large organized criminal groups and Nation-state actors like China in the mix. It's going to get very ugly if this trend continues.

Not really DOOM related, but Riot is also owned by Tencent, a Chinese tech conglomerate. You're giving kernel level access to a Chinese company. Think about it...
I'd pirate it just to avoid the anticheat
Exactly. This has a inverted outcome from what they want. They want more people to buy the game but they add software that makes more people want to go pirate the game.
They had a beautiful cake for once and they decide to ship it with a turd on top. So people are obvioualy going to find it for free without the additional bloatware at best and a full blown trogan virus at worst.

Damn, first of all, spot on analysis on the motivation behind this change. I think you are absolutely correct that they are testing this out for future games - and who knows, maybe it even interacts with other Bethesda titles? They added microtransactions people weren't happy but they still bought the game, they added DRM people weren't happy but still bought the game, they added battle passes people weren't happy but still got the game.
Today we have more content in microtransactions than in the games itself, RDR2 has a DRM where you can't play if you don't have internet ( a few days ago their servers shut down and no one could play RDR2 single player or multiplayer, they release the games half baked and don't give two shit if the game is trash because we'll buy it anyways.
That's the sad thing about gaming, it became mainstream and when things become mainstream corporations prey on the weak and milk the shit out of them until the industry becomes garbage and loses its soul. I have no doubt that in 10 years there will be less and less great games that comes out but live services garbage that release half baked will be the norm. Fight this with your wallets not with your voices.
You were wise my friend. So many people have been fucked over by Bethesda this time. Who even introduces anti cheat like that? It's been weeks since the game released.

The first sign was when Mick Gordon left
That one was on mick, not id
@@saladv6069 Oh i guess i didn't hear the details then. Cuz all i know is that he couldn' mix the songs in time and someone else was in charge of that. but what did mick do?
@@danieleccleston7928 He did a fraction of the mixing work before the deadline, and iD's chief audio engineer was forced to quickly mix with bad samples because mick never sent the good ones over, something to that effect. I probably have some of the details wrong, just look it up
@@hotcrossballs alright i will but thanks
Mick Gordon failed to meet deadlines even after they fully extended it by MORE then he asked for and Id still offered to give him all his "on time" bonuses. He just failed to be a professional, kept missing every extension and then went on to make it look like he had no part in this failing, leading to angry gamers attacking Ids music guy for literally doing his best to fill in for Micks incompetence.
Good music or not Mick Gordon is a snake.
Edit: The worst thing is that people are giving Mick a pass because "He's an artist" but this is bs. The tracks were all composed and finished, all he had to do was the mixing which as a musician myself is no where near as demanding as the composition.
Don’t worry guys, you can still cheat in single player. Bethesda will sell you the cheats in the future mtx store. Impossibly hard boss? Buy 30 minutes of invincibility, only $3.99. How about 2 hours of bonus damage, only $1.99. Aren’t we so lucky?

WOW what an intro. The Lamon Gamón meme machine just never runs on fumes.
That opening scene had me dead 🤣
My new personal policy going forward regarding Bethesda games is to wait 3 months before I consider buying a Bethesda game. I had thought that Doom was safe from Bethesda's meddling, but I was wrong.
You want Bethesda? THEN DOWNLOAD DAGGERFALL UNITY for FREE on PC and it has some amazing Mods and any bugs have been almost completely fixed and still being worked on.
The "it just works" sucker punch at the beginning fucking floored me.
I just hope cheaters stay out of my mainframe and vibe when I play cyberpunk and halo: infinite
Cyberpunk is actually DRM free (over at gog) buy it and its 100% yours, they really don't give a shit if you cheat in a single player game
8:35
I was there, Gendalf. I was there 3000 years ago when Wolfenstein: Youngblood launched. And the very first patch they ever released for this game included only one "fix" - the ability to farm in-game currency with Cheat Engine.
SO does this mean you cant even install cheats to mess around in singleplayer?
I mean, why would you? There's literally every conceivable cheat for Eternal in its campaign. Every power-up, every gun, etc. Though my question is, who the hell would cheat in something like Battlemode? It's literally just meant to see how good you are from playing the campaign and pitting you under new circumstances. There's not prize money in it, it's just a matter of seeing how good you can get. If you want cheats, just play the game and collect the 16 codes by completing the campaign fully. But leave it to corporate to think they know best and decide to smear Hugo and Marty's hard work in all the demon feces Todd could find.
I use cheats a LOT in single player games to make the game do things it never should.
I mean if you're cracking the game like that for shits and giggles(like to get something like big head mode if that existed or third person) I get that. I was just meaning like functional cheats that serve a distinct purpose, the kind that people would normally mod in, like the ones I listed.
ID: creates good game
Bethesda: we'll see about that...
I knew something sinister was bound to happen with doom eternal due to bethesda. Just separate from them already ID software.
How do we know this wasnt id?
@@saladv6069 because Bethesda is the one with the reputation that backs this up, always go for the simplest answer first.
id Software doesn't have the funds to survive without being owned by a major publisher. If it wasn't for Zenimax buying them, id Software would have gone under and wouldn't even exist anymore. This is a fact. id Software cannot survive by themselves anymore, like they did in the 90s.
Also, Zenimax/Bethesda Softworks owns id Software - which means that id Software can't just say, "Screw you, we're leaving". They don't have that power, even if they had the funds to survive on their own.
@@saladv6069
Anyone that's a massive fan of id Software and their developers know that this is not something they would willingly do. id Software is actually a really good, honest, passionate company. They legitimately care about their fans and the 'art' of making games. They listen closely to their fans and they know exactly what would please fans and what would anger the fans. They do everything in their power and budget to please their fans; and they do everything in their power to avoid making fans displeased and hostile.
id Software has operated like this ever since they were founded in the early 90s.
As I said, this is simply not something id Software would willingly do.

Does anyone know how to detect if I accidentally installed this type of malware on my PC?
Try Malwarebytes its free.
Right click Start button/Windows logo, select "Run", type "services.msc" then look for "Denuvo Anti-Cheat updater". If it's not there, It wasn't installed.
Removing it is done through "Uninstall programs"
If you remove it you won't be able to play the game so beware.
Just torrent the game. Easy solution
the castlevania intro was PERFECTION
I'm taking a stand. I requested a refund for Doom Eternal on Steam just now to send a message to Bethesda so that hopefully they learn a lesson before Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 releases.
Same here but I got denied
@@RathalosEmperor Me too. I tried twice and got denied twice. I think they realized that there was going to be a flood of people requesting a refund after the first people posted how they got their purchase refunded even though they pre-ordered and already played a bunch of hours.
And come to think of it. I don't know if refunding outside the 14-day window would hurt Bethesda at all anyway because they already got paid by Valve. If Valve accepts, it might just be Valve that eats the cost of the refund.
Aww fuck how could you show even a snippet of the dancing pole-bearers, now I have to go watch that again, because it absolutely slaps.
This is one of the benefits to a console. While a computer may currently provide a better experience, a console provides an extra layer of separation between a developer. publisher, or third party to your main system. This is why I use a console to play the game first, and then if I enjoy it enough I'll save up again to purchase it for my pc. It's saved my ass and pc on more then one occasion.

It’s so disappointing to see so many people uninstalling and being negative about doom. I’m normally not one to spit hate even if I do agree with it but I honestly hope Bethesda crashes and burns. They really do embody everything wrong with the gaming industry right now. If any company deserves financial ruin after destroying their reputation it’s Bethesda.
This is about the modding scene and TES 6. Remember Todd said he was waiting for the technology. Here it is. This enables them to wall the garden and cut the Nexus out of the market.
They tipped their hand with the paid mods fiasco and the current state of the creation club, which disables numerous mods because of simple value and tag id changes made by Bethesda.

I bought Doom Eternal day 1 and didn't like multiplayer at all. I should not have to keep up with stupid Dunovo for single player.

I'd love a 2 player coop experience.
Tdm is for call of duty. Doom has a different type of audience. That's why they had monsters. Admittedly they didn't do a good job of it but DOOM has never been about multiplayer.
What if they did a 4 player horde mode coop
