Healy has said: "Driftwood is a song for the person in your life who has so much potential and, yet, doesn't use it because they're afraid of falling on their backside, you know, they're afraid of making a fool of themselves. But, yet, if they put their minds to it and just threw their plate out the window, they would actually do a lot with it and make themselves happy and other people happy."

Travis were actually huge and loved in the UK, no one gives a crap if they were Scottish, Irish or Welsh. Music in the UK isn't like that. They've just been quiet for years. That's all.
I’m in this video. I was 11 years old at the time. Spent the whole day shooting this video, the band were really cool. Best memory from school. I’m 33 now and feels nostalgic watching this
I miss bands that created beautiful music from the 60's til the early 2000's. since then music standards have dropped dramatically. love this time period.
Couldnt agree with you more my friend, although there are some talented artists around today, there is so much soul-less music pumped out with the sole intention of making money and therefore, as you said, to find real music of any merit you have to look back into the last century.
This in my unqualified opinion is the best song they made and is still my favourite guitar song all these years later. I’m still amazed that it didn’t top the charts for weeks and weeks. Everyone seemed to like why does it always rain more but Driftwood is my favourite by a country mile.
every now & then i kept visiting travis. something so special about their music. I was born 1986 & thanks travis for being part of bright technicolor in my picture of life. greetings from malaysia.
I finally got to see "Travis" live at the Coachella festival back in 07' (here in the states) and never in my wildest dreams did I think they would play this song live..Half way through a stellar set, the lead singer pulls out a 12 string (tunes it for a minute - telling all of us that "hell will be filled with out of tune 12 string guitars and broken sprinkler heads" Everyone LOLZ. And boom they break into "Driftwood"... and it's a perfect day.
Travis is the greatest band ever! I don't have words to describe this song and I never saw a band that makes so wonderful videos. The scene when the girl down to the grades is the most beautiful scene that I ever see in a clip. I can wait to see the show in Argentina!

"Home is where the heart is but your heart had to roam" Love this song. I had this album and would play this song almost daily while driving to and back from work.
i grew up in wales, got out at 19 , lived in US, Spain, England most of my adult life. If i met a Welsh childhood friend today, who never left, id play this.
Sometimes life lingers in darkness for a little longer than you can bear. And it does seem that "everywhere there's trouble, nowhere safe to go." But as a previous poster wrote, paradoxically you have to embrace the suffering. At some point you lose someone or something very dear to you. There is a certain sweetness in the suffering. And the pain in your heart provides some meaning to what seems senseless.
Got divorced to this...so true in lyric terms...off you go then,,,,you've been drifting for a long long time...best thing that ever happened. This album now makes me happy!
why hasn't this got more views? it's genuinely very good. I was only a baby when it came out but my English teacher played it for us back when I was in year seven. I hadn't listened to it for ages until the other day when I thought hey I haven't listened to it for a while but remembered the lyrics quite well.
AWESOME ENGLISH TEACHER...hope you appreciated him/her!!!!!!....one of my English teachers made a prediction that i would write words one day and touch folk..deeply!!!...what a guy...so i went back in time and dug out an old school report which read "David is showing signs of real ability in the written word ..long may it continue..i'm impressed"....from my Junior School English teacher(Mrs Davidson!!)..about the only thing i was any bloody good at!!! BREATHE by JASMINE LAMPORT...can be googled....wonder if Mrs Davidson was right??...it's mellow but it's sure moving!!!...only Joe Public will know... ENGLISH TEACHERS MUST JUST...KNOW!!!!
Abslaoute amazing Band couldnt understand how they werent bigger i knew they were special then and even more now i will always rate Travis in my top bands of all time

Pillars turn to butter
Butterflying low
Low is where your heart is
But your heart has to grow
Drifting under bridges
Never with the flow
And you really didn't think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So I'm sorry that you turned to driftwood
But you've been drifting for a long long time
Everywhere there's trouble
Nowhere's safe to go
Pushes turn to shovel's
Shoveling the snow
Frozen you have chosen
The path you wish to go
Drifting now forever
And forever more
Until you reach your shore
You're driftwood floating underwater
Breaking into pieces pieces pieces
Just driftwood hollow and of no use
Waterfalls will find you bind you grind you
And you really didn't think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So I'm sorry that you turned to driftwood
But you've been drifting for a long long time
You've been drifting for a long long time
You've been drifting for a long long
Drifting for a long long time
"Home is where the heart is
but your heart had to roam"

Dear Diary tho.
i grew up in wales, got out at 19 , lived in US, Spain, England most of my adult life. If i met a Welsh childhood friend today, who never left, id play this.
Oasis are by miles my favourite band, but I forgot how many truely magnificent songs that Travis have. Great band
The state of The UK is now Driftwood
God... My Irish times...far from home, young and fearless! What a sweet nostalgia
This song is timeless.
And sadly very very true...
Travis is my favorite band of all time, hands-down
This song reminds me of a lot from my past. 15 years ago seems like yesterday
+Niki Fuller me too reminds me of my best friend anthony he died 2 years ago in a motorbike crash miss him so much
I was too there too man
Got divorced to this...so true in lyric terms...off you go then,,,,you've been drifting for a long long time...best thing that ever happened.
Love TRAVIS by the way...awesome album...listen to it all the time.
