I appreciate the honesty of “leaving your slip can be hard” from someone with so much experience. Thanks for making me feel better about some of my own mishaps.
I saw exactly that track taken by a long keeler in our marina. Luckilly the old fellow attracted quite an audience because when his universal joint broke there were around 12 committed marina dwellers there to arrest his progress. No gel coats were scratched.
As a truck driver, I have enjoyed all of your audio books and videos. After I hang up these keys, I will be setting sail to other lands without pavement under my coccyx. It is funny seeing your sewing projects mentioned in "Alone together." They are like Easter eggs just between you and your readers. Thank you again for sharing.
Another magnificient video by the master himself! I'm always impressed with the cleanliness and organization of your vessel. You maintain her well unlike many others on RUclips who make videos of their adventures but somehow forget to wash their boat. Yours is alway impeccable and functional. Thank you!
Ahoy Captain! I have about 1/1000000 the experience that you have but I feel for ya. I was trying to back into my slip with my full keel Nor Sea 27 the other day and geeez, it just would not go where I was steering, hoping and guessing it should. I was doing the same thing with forward reverse but never got it. Eventually just regrouped and pulled in. I love your videos. God bless you sir. Dear Audience, If you haven't listened to Christian Williams's audio books yet, you are missing some really good stuff. Audible is one platform to find them.
I love the philosophy that comes from anticipating, overcoming and reflecting on the many sailing challenges. We strive to remodel a battlefield to be more of a playground. It is fulfilling to rest in peace knowing that we have overcame. Christian’s experiences and wonderful narrative help us immensely knowing that it can be done.
Brilliant as usual. I really respect you stranger. I was pleased as you sat on the bow upon your pillows made of gold and thanked you in your splendor. Thank you. 😎
Hi Christian, just wanted to Thank You, for all your videos and inspiration. A friend of mine arrives in Oahu today from Seattle singlehanded, I did the trip last year singlehanded, we were just talking about how much you and some others have helped in our endeavors. Just so you know, I bet there's many more like us out there.
Bravo. Well all learn and now singlehanding is no longer secret knowledge, thanks to RUclips. I well remember studying this book 15 years ago, memorizing every word. It was at the time pretty much samizdat, but now available to all on Amazon: "Singlehanded Sailing: Thoughts, Tips, Techniques & Tactics" Paperback - October 16, 2014 by Andrew Evans (Author)
I have always felt there was a Zen-like quality to sailing - a centering, calming all good feeling of being on the water and in tune with the boat, the wind, the water and the creatures... watching the small details of your experiences brings much of that into focus again. Having raced for many years, I tired of the loud voices and over exuberance on the course - now I venture out with renewed joy that in part I owe to you sir! Cheers from the Atlantic in New Hampshire!
What can I say... Just love it! Hope to start doing some solo sailing this year on my 38 ft Morgan in the Gulf of Mexico... Need the auto pilot working. Christian, you are an inspiration (at your mature age) ... I am 71 years young and never solo sailed. Thanks for your great videos!
Since I graduated high school in 1983, my dad insisted on me getting my pilots liscence. In 1984, I discovered sloops…in particular an Erickson 38. To this day I long for one. My wife unfortunately gets sick just looking at the ocean. I envy you sir. Love your channel. Thank you!
Can relate to slip ! Nothing like being in irons just feet from boats, docks, etc.. after seeing your sails, I now know how truly blown out ours are!!!
The infamous Mr Squeaky strikes again. We found it upsets humback whales. Seriously. They get all agro when it starts. This is one of the best sensible sailing videos I have seen. Thank you so much!
Just finished philosophy of sailing and this popped up. Have always enjoyed your captured moments and words weaved to take me out there when I cannot be.
I love your videos Christian..”or even someone you barely know…” I had to stop the video until I stopped laughing. Please please please - more videos ….please
Thanks for the visit! Are we going to Hawaii again? Soon? Love your sailing and philosophy - missed a little jazz this time, but I'm sure we'll make that up soon.
Ahoy, Great video, trying to get on our 1st vessel at 56. Better late than never. 71 Columbia 34. Looking forward to the work and learning with my family out of Channel Islands. But whew the whole slip thing over here is ridiculous. But will make it happen and get out there. Cheers
Keeping my sailing dreams alive. Sold my sailboat 3 years ago....I usually buy, sail and then sell every 3 years. I may skip this year which will be 4 seasons not sailing. It's easy to make excuses to hold off on buying again. Traveling the USA with the goal to sleep in all the states and visit all the National parks is a good reason for now. Up to 34 states slept in and 33 National Parks visited.
May I suggest a piece of wire Loom to put on the bow pulpit to protect it from being scratched by the concrete. Easy to put on and won't leave any residue that sometimes even painter tape will leave....or even more aggravating is that most painters tape and other tapes are coming from China and they tear and split when your trying to use it.....buy a section of Loom and reuse it until you lose it.
Did someone tell you the sliding hatch on a sailboat must always be closed for safety? That is nonsense, and whatever sailing school teaches that is a bag of crumbs. The gate should be closed.
@@MrMabenson1 What do you suppose will happen with an open hatch? A Ukrainian drone will drop a grenade in it? Please use common sense. If spray is coming in, close the hatch, if not, OK.
How many mountains did you climb before you found the right water to shush the autopilot 😅? Great video, we love watching you and listening to your wise words and occasional sailors sarcasm!! Love and best wishes Nick (safe sailing shut your bow hatch!)
sir im local with a new boat in Wilmington, I really like you videos, have "some sailing and "a" pass under my belt. id really like to try to basked in you experience!
I have read and re-read your books so many times, I need to buy a next set. BIG FAN here.
Somehow one of the best sailing channels without all the BS, no music, no drone shots. Just some boat repairs with sailing wisdom.
Ohhhh you haven’t heard him play Monk 🎶
You should have a listen to his audio books.

Another great video, with the relaxing voice of the narrator

As long as Christian Williams is putting out sailing videos, all is still good with the world.
Have a great season sailing Christian! At 71 I'm in my second year of sailing here in central Ohio on my 19' Flying Scot.
Just finished Alone Together audiobook. Huge fan of everything you do.
Always so happy to see your videos. Your books have inspired me to set out on my own sailing adventure. Thank you, Christian!
Great to see you again! Hope there will be many more videos this summer!

I just discovered your channel. So wonderful - good solid sailing wisdom, tongue in cheek - enjoyable.

An Irish Sunday morning listening to Christian Williams, divine.

Always fun to catch up with you.
Just Thank you!! You give me hope to get in more sailing at a certain age. Cold and rainy here on Cape Cod as the rest of the world is baking.

Great video as always. Nice to see another Jersey sailor doing what he loves!
Your commentary is superb... only a minute in and already smiling!
Been watching your channel for a few years now, very enjoyable content.
Very inspirational. Your guidance is always appreciated. Oliver, UK Sails (Marina Del Rey) helped me add reefs to my mainsail.
Great video. I was just futzing w/ the jib fair leads on a club boat yesterday. Wish it had guides like you put on your Ericson!

Thanks as always you kind man. Nice one.
Thank you for another great video!
I need to get out again soon! Not been out since April and you've inspired me. Hatch open and port side gate unlatched gave me twitches though 😆

@@ChristianWilliamsYachting not the sliding hatch, the cabin roof hatch. I've had a few earfuls for leaving hatches open 🤦♂

good to see you again, enjoy your work, we need more old guys living the dream. The v-berth step

Another great video, thanks. How did you operate the Furler for the Genoa and maintain the sail tension at same time?
