Man you have to be proud. I know how to sail but I watched it anyway and was just giddy and proud for you. I know my daughter's don't have a clew how happy it makes me when they toss a dock line at just the right moment or do the many other things they do or better yet say yes when I say do you want to go sailing or say when you die I want the boat and your album collection.
Christian, I am so happy to find your new videos with your daughter. You have helped with my sailing education incredibly. I have watched Your Hawaii voyages several times and I just can’t get enough. Your the best. Hopefully some day we can connect.
Mate I bought your book on audio books after finding you somehow so crazy. I listened to it each night and dreamt always of adventure It’s just what I needed. I’ve watched all your videos. Seriously you changed my life in some ways. Thank you and again you are a inspiration Take care and please keep making videos you with never who you are inspiring Andrew Hereford untied kingdom (I’d never know in years gone by it’s amazing ☺️)
Hoover up as much of your Dad's sailing knowledge and skill as you can as one day he won't be around to help or guide you. Savour these times. It is what I remember most of the good times I spent with my Dad, him teaching me to sail and teaching me old school navigation.
Great video , Mr Williams. A moment like this is where another man looks at you and says to himself '' That guy's got it figured out. '' Knowing, like anyone else, your life isn't perfect but having the knowledge and means to create a day like this for yourself is truly a beautiful thing to have in life. Thx for sharing it and satisfying one of the few qualities I actually like about myself... the ability to be genuinely happy for someone else. I hope your daughter invites you out soon. Don't be a back salon driver either haha
My daughter is 10 years old - will be 11 in June as we head into our second season of sailing together on our Mirage 27. I love seeing this dad/daughter dynamic. I'm pretty sure in a few years she'll be teaching me some lessons. I love sharing this experience with my little girl, and love seeing how you've shared it with your little girl too.
Mr. William's, thank you so very much for today's lesson. I had given up hope that I would ever learn the correct way to string the clews on my first and second reef lines (I was just attaching to the sail and not terminating the two lines on the boom). I also gained knowledge relating to where to set the car on the head sail sheet travelers which I had been experimenting with for some time. Being a novice in his sixties going into my second season of sailing, I very much appreciate the tip filled videos you and a limited number of other publishers release. Prosperity, health, and happiness to you and your daughter. Dan S/V Drifter a 1989 IP 35
Great student and teacher. Did all this work without mistakes first, second, third time? It is amazing how well Christian instructs and Alex listens. Those are the humans one trust going around the world.
From Lake Como and Valtellina (BAY OF COLICO) ... Thanks Christian for all three fantastic videos ... extraordinary ending ... of an infinite poem ... between a great Pope and an intelligent and gracious Daughter
Wonderfull day of sailing!. thanks! I saw too the video to hawaii , incredible. Mr. Williams, a complete Gentleman. I will take all your lessons! greetings from Uruguay
Just finished ASA 101 and 103 (out of Marina Del Rey)........these thee videos were fantastic in watching so much of what I was taught over the two classes. Mr. Williams, I'd love to sail with you and/or your daughter one day. Lunch/beers on me! (just bought your book by the way!).......Be well,
A person needs confidence, but you need experience to gain confidence. That's the inflection point between training and going it alone. Life is a learning experience for sure.
Great footage! My husband taught me how to sail when we were barely 16 years old. We got engaged when we were 18 while visiting his older brother in costa rica on their boat SV Prism, and then when we turned 20 we got married and moved onto our boat, Avocet, preparing to sail the world! its been a wild 2 years. Can't wait to explore the world.
I've never sailed in my life but this looks like such good fun. Great logical teaching skills from Christian and very wise observations on learning needs from Alexandra too. If I lived on that side of the Atlantic I'd be pestering these people to teach me to sail a boat 🙂
You can find smaller sailboats and learn yourself. I had never been on a sailboat when i bought mine. Had to learn everything. Still learning. Far more exciting and difficult than you might think
Thank you for these videos Christian! I've enjoyed all the ones I've watched so far. The ones with your daughter eminds me of sailing with my father. Those were good days.
I just love your sailing videos, Christian, I have been bingeing on watching them. Nothing done in a rush, great knowledge, calmness and clear instruction and explanation. Thank you for producing these videos and sharing with us all.
I think you've convinced me to explore bringing my reefing lines back into the cockpit. Currently I have to go to the mast to reef which is not something I enjoy when things get rough. As a result I either reef at the dock or not reef at all and occasionally deal with being overpowered. Your procedure for reefing is sooo much simpler (and safer).
Okay, so I've just finished 1, 2 & 3 of Moving up to a bigger boat. If I ever wanted to learn to sail I would certainly wish that Christian was my instructor!
Just recently on to you and these great videos. I earn something every time. But the best part, is your daughter thanking you for all you have taught her and her appreciation of all you do. A father loves to hear those words from his daughter. Well done!
I learned to sail with my dad in Marina Del Rey when I was 9. He later bought a larger boat and moved it down to Coronado where I was a junior member of CYC. There I had the opportunity to crew on a Newport 41 named Lola which belonged to Whit Davis, father of Rod Davis - they took their sailing rather seriously - to say the least. Many years later after my dad had sold his boat I wanted to get back to sailing and introduce my wife to the experience. I found Set Sail Yacht Charters in San Diego. The owner turned out to be Jeff Davis - Rods younger brother. I have been chartering boats for years including two trips up from Cabo. I've never had any formal instruction and have no certificate. I love your videos (I taught my daughter to sail as well)
That's wonderful that you are teaching your daughter to sell your teaching methods are nice and smooth and wonderful to watch keep up the great work peace out
Love your vids. Teaching our kids (three daughters, two sons) the same -- just not as eloquently -- yet -- as we circumnavigate the world. Left SD bay 35 days ago. Have been in channel islands. Heading down to Sea of Cortez this week. Was hoping to run into you on the water outside of LA. Hats off for your great books and sailing homage.
Safe travels to you , bro . Just watched a cpl of your videos , they were fun and you have a beautiful family . I subbed, so I'll be checking in on you guys!
Love your vids, love the writing. You have made me want to change my retirement plans. I now want to move to SoCal and buy a mid size sailboat like your lovely Ericson 38!
So pleasant listening to your conversation with your daughter. I thoroughly enjoy your videos, Christian and look forward to when I can get back on the water again. You're an inspiration and your calm style is quite comforting. I looked for your books in audio but haven't found them yet. Cheers, mate.
I probably look forward to these videos from Christian more than any other channel in YT. If I ever become a truly competent and confident sailor it will be due in part to things I’ve picked up watching this channel.
Fond memories of when my father taught my brother and I how to sail in Lewis Bay on Cape Cod back in the late 60's. Good to hear from you. Your friend from Syracuse, New York.
Father and daughter sailing, wow not herd of , but it seems happening , also i can positively say Dad is a good teacher, good luck and good to see you Skipper, be safe and happy sailing to you guys..!!
You guys are so great, Thank you for allowing me to share not only your knowledge's of sailing and this trip in high winds but also the time you have spent together! I have 4 kids, myself 2 still pre adults and hope to get some great quality time in with them too:)
I came across your channel just now after watching some videos of a young sailor - Sam Holmes. I'm heading into retirement in a couple of years and have a crazy idea about learning to sail, maybe even live aboard for a time. I'll be around 63 years old. Your videos are inspiring as well as informative. But I wonder what advice you would have for a guy thinking about learning this art and craft in his 60s. Clearly it's doable, but what's a person getting into? Seems like it takes a lot of physical strength and endurance. I see you've written a couple of books; i'll have a look at those. If you have any other suggested readings that might help a person my age to decide whether to give this a try, they'd be much appreciated.
There's no reason not to start sailing at age 63, it's not mixed martial arts or the Battle of Britain. We can sail standing up or sitting down, or around the world in our heads. It rewards thinking things through, not instant reflexes. The great benefit to the ancient mariner? He or she has time now, time we never had at the height of ambition and career. Time to learn, especially. (Oh--and note that Sam Holmes has "Moved up to a Larger Boat.")
I'm in the same boat as you (excuse the pun!) i'm 52 and watched Christian and Sam amogst others and getting my own sailboat asap probably a Beneteau 24 or 26
Always look forward to your videos Christian, this was great. I've taken sailing lessons down in OC for a couple of years and you're a real inspiration. I'm also a native New Yawka from Queens and I shared your 1961 family sailing trip video with my 82 year old dad and he just loved it, thank you! If you or Alex ever need crew I'm available (No seriously, Alex, I'm sooooo available :) haha) Keep up the great vids youz two!
You have taught your daughter well and she certainly seems capable of helming the boat, if she’s sailed a Laser I would let her trim the sails herself so she can gain some independence and take the boat out with her friends, she’ll certainly learn more when she’s making decisions. Also, I didn’t get your jibe, the boom certainly slammed rather than come around smoothly. I appreciate your videos, thank you.
Two points: Thank You, Christian. for showing us daysailers how to reef! And. to your lovely daughter for being such a good sport. Cruisers forum has a section about what famous person you would like to sail with. If one were able to sail with you, wonder the intricacies of FASTNET ‘79 or of watergate we could glean from you.....perhaps with a nip of bourbon or scotch.
I wish my grandfather was still alive and I could sail with him. He passed before I was born. He was an avid sailor, my mom sailed with her parents in their yawl to the US from Argentina when she was a young girl. My grandfather dreamed of sailing across the Atlantic. I hope one day to achieve that dream as I have it too⭐️😊
I was at my local adult beverage store last night and thought of you. I saw a beer named "Brother Thelonious" by North Coast Brewing Co (it has a picture of Thelonious Monk on the label). They make a donation from every sale to the Jazz educational programs of the Monterey Jazz Festival. I thought you might enjoy that. Thanks for the wonderful videos and books. Stay well.
Well done skipper. I raised my 3 kids on a First 35S5, they are my best crew. Only jealous i couldnt do it with the calm and patience you have. Maybe wisdom comes with the years? Btw, your daughter is pretty. Cheers.
Step 4: Go somewhere for more than a daysail, start with weather forecast, route planning, a bit more safety procedures, maybe MOB test... Then sail to Hawaii and.. not back, just forward :D
Another apreciated video. Allow me 1 comment: jibing when solo sailing I prefer in your situation jibing in the vid, to sail up wind wards, tack, and release the main on s.s side. In dutch: storm rondje (storm round?)
There's so much more to seamanship than handling the helm and lines, and because she's had a lifetime on the water with a true sailor father, even though she's just now learning how to captain a boat, she knows what she isn't ready to do. That's the best way to become a competent captain. Fair winds...
Classic! You can take Dads boat out .... as long as you invite him 😂. Yeah .... not quite ready yet. 🧐 ⛵️ You have a great teacher Alex - you will be out on your own with friends in no time.
I will volunteer as ballast for Alex- yes, hot hot hot ! Christian, listened to your audiobook and half way through “Raratonga”, and have watched many of your vids, love your work, love the humor and the insight, now i love your daughter! lol. Don’t be afraid to let the humor out more often, most of us ‘get it’ and i find myself laughing hysterically. Now i’m going to have to delete this cause i am being too honest
Good training with your daughter. I would love to go sailing with Alex anytime. I like the postmortem or review of the sailing trip to see what went good and bad. Good way to learn. When do I get to go sailing without you and Alex?⛵
Christian how come the main isn't reefed down? Yeah that boat is MOVING.. probably at hull speed there. Pretty tight to the wind too. Tell you what he enjoyed this day with his daughter.
nice. i'm canadian, you're american. (that's likely the closest thing we have in common.) anyways....i just want to say i really like your videos....especially the hawaii trips. man...thumbsup.
Christian, I'm retired in South Lake Tahoe, but as a kid I sailed out of King Harbor in Redondo. Could you please sail down to KIng Harbor and film the coast down to Palos Verdes? In the 1960s, I played Little League and surfed at Malaga Cove. Fair winds....
Always love to see a new video from you Christian! Just bought Rarotonga. Looking forward to reading!
Wish I had a sailing Dad, a lifetime relationship to cherish, priceless.
Man you have to be proud. I know how to sail but I watched it anyway and was just giddy and proud for you. Creating lasting father/daughter memories is priceless. Great video, Christian and Alexandra.

I hope one day Alex can start her own channel with sailing adventures of her own.... and one with her dad would be nice too.
I truly wish I could find a teacher to teach me like this. She is fortunate.

You're one of the folks that has inspired me to build a boat and start sailing, thanks for the great content!

It is kind of nice to see your daughter who is not a teenager ... gush a bit about being with her dad
Great footage! My husband taught me how to sail when we were barely 16 years old. PS. I love the handing over of the boat to the new helmsman and the request to be invited on her ventures, you are a great father.
Great video Christian... Ali is very lucky to have you showing her the ropes!
I think you've convinced me to explore bringing my reefing lines back into the cockpit. Currently I have to go to the mast to reef which is not something I enjoy when things get rough. Outstanding. Great father and daughter sailing team. 👍🏻☀️🇺🇸
Great video for those of us needing a reintroduction to sailing!!
Hill Street Blues one of the best shows I remember, great writer thanks and even a better sailor!!
Okay, so I've just finished 1, 2 & 3 of Moving up to a bigger boat. If I ever wanted to learn to sail I would certainly wish that Christian was my instructor!
I could watch and listen to Christian all day long and his relationship with his daughter is simply lovely.
Great to see live reefing in some healthy wind. Thanks again Chris
One of the best pure sailing channels on YT.
definitely!
Great video. Its nice to see a Lady with a "can-do" attitude out on the water. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this series of videos. I learned a lot from watching it.
Greetings from locked down Melbourne Australia. You guys are an inspiration! 🙏🤗👍

It's impressive that you're able to teach your daughter so patiently. I'm guessing you were a therapist or college professor in real life.
This one put a big smile on my face.. bless you both.

Looked over powered at first, I was happy you put in a reef! xo
Nothing like that feeling of putting in a reef and suddenly the boat is no longer fighting you!
Beautiful to be with your children enjoying each other's company. It truly warms my heart :)
Total Babe. Dad makes Total Hero. All love. All the time.
Very inspiring for a beginner sailor like me back in Brazil with plus of learning sailing english nautical terms ! Thanks a lot. xoxo
I probably look forward to these videos from Christian more than any other channel in YT. If I ever become a truly competent and confident sailor it will be due in part to things I’ve picked up watching this channel.

more informative than some classes.

Whata Beauty!... you know that's not a bad looking old boat you got there Capt. ;)
Hmm, good idea showing ( my wife) what levers do. 👍 Ellie is a natural sailor. Keep it up.
another great video. thank you very much.
Love these videos, don't stop !!!
Well done skipper. I raised my 3 kids on a First 35S5, they are my best crew.
Only jealous i couldnt do it with the calm and patience you have.
Maybe wisdom comes with the years?
Btw, your daughter is pretty.
Cheers.
2:55. Love it. Yo can only go as fast as your hull speed. Anything else is just... well, you sayed much nicer than i would.
Step 4: Go somewhere for more than a daysail, start with weather forecast, route planning, a bit more safety procedures, maybe MOB test... Then sail to Hawaii and.. not back, just forward :D

Well experianced man with a nice daughter.
Bless
That looks like so much fun!
Le papa peut être fier de sa fille...😆.tres belle et intéressante vidéo pour une belle sortie en mer.
Alex is sweet, see she has a great father, a caring mentoring dad😷😊
Love these Videos ! Looking forward to more
There's so much more to seamanship than handling the helm and lines, and because she's had a lifetime on the water with a true sailor father, even though she's just now learning how to captain a boat, she knows what she isn't ready to do. You are a good teacher Christian…
Apple of your eye... hey dad ?......a lifetime of welldones captain.
Oh! Good stuff 🍺🇭🇲
Could you make more instructional videos like this? They're really helping me out.
i see why Christian has no crew on trips to Hawaii. to hard on his Crew... lol anouther great video loaded with helpful content.
I’m glad to see Alex back. Nice job by the way, now ask dad for the keys and make a non stop to Hawaii just like dad. Or the South Pacific.
what a great episode
You are a excellent teacher. I learned alot.

Another lovely video.
Watching on a (very) large screen TV it is practically life size. So real it gives me motion sickness in my own living room.🤣😂👍
