I have learned a lot about the realities of New York living since watching your channel. It's not all glossy sky scrapers and the statue of Liberty. It seems to me to be one of the most brutal places in the world to live. Lot of poverty and depriviation. You are a ray of hope for people in what seems a very bleak place for many.

Likewise. I never fail to be taken aback at the criminal state of disrepair, particularly those lacking water or flowing pipes. No washing machine, no stove, no oven? Little to no natural light or air? I’d have thought these would be basic rights or provisions. One should not spend too many a month in what I would term claustrophobic cages. It cannot be good for one’s mental health. Psychiatrists often advise that the bedroom should be separate from eating and living areas and solely left for sleep. Plenty of space further out in suburban and rural towns, though one must be willing to find work in these areas. Maybe it’s time to turn our backs on congested cities and return to a more natural way of living? Escape to the country!

@@Ruth58969 I visited NYC decades ago on an extended layover on my way to somewhere else. I spent 9hrs in that place and it sure as heck isn't like Sex and The City! It was over crowded, filthy, smelled bad, expensive and people seemed to be in a bad mood everywhere I turned. I honestly couldn't wait to get out of there. On the way back I brought a book, stayed by my departure gate and didn't leave until my connection was made.

I’ve lived in New York my entire life and can honestly say that the spaces that some landlords pass off as “studio apartments” are the size of a walk-in closet. They charge over $1,000 for these tiny spaces.

One thing I noticed in the videos is the places you clean seem to have very limited storage and thus with no storage articles get set down wherever, I hope this may help so people consider their storage needs for what they have, that is how I keep my house organized, everything has to have a place.

In a very small apartment it might be a solution to go upwards, not only with shelves and cabinets up to the ceiling. I once had a friend who built a wooden platform with drawers and put his bed on it, but you can just buy some cabinets and assemble a board onto them. In the base of the kitchen cabinets he stored canned food, just on a big piece of cardboard to draw it out easily.

If robot vacuums are allowed in here. I have to follow mine and get things out of the way. It's like the cleaning people do before the maid comes. Totally pays for itself in my case. The more powerful euphy is what I have and I want to try the vacuum Barbie had in her links for the bedroom upstairs. Sorry they don't do windows or stairs, haha. I didn't have a storage idea but the robot came to mind. Have a nice weekend from Cle Elum. Say hi to Mack and Bonnie and the new girl I think her name is Ferol.

What I learn from you is about the psychology of mental illness, how it has affected friends and family members, and how it's affected me throughout life. I'm pretty sure I have ADHD and sometimes depression. My mom is a hoarder. My step mom is a hoarder. One sister likes her piles, while the other is very type A personality and minimalist home, very neat. I'm somewhere in the middle. Hearing about others mental health helps rationalize observed behavior and how to respond appropriately. Love your videos!❤

So glad to tell you what I have learned from your videos! Here you go:
    1) Be kind and not judgemental. If that's hard, keep it to yourself and explore how to become more compassionate in the future. Try thinking of the most difficult time you have ever had and how it made you feel- that should help.
    2) Have a keen appreciation for the courage it can take to even ask for help, much less accept it! It can be so very embarrassing for the resident.
    3) Be prepared for all kinds of unpleasant things when you do this job such as bugs, problems with water/electricity/appliances/bathrooms.
    4) Wear protective gear when needed and stay safe.
    5) Develop a sense-of-humor regarding this type of work and express it appropriately.
    6) Be tolerant of those with different backgrounds and customs than your own as they are important to that individual.
    7) Break large jobs into steps or discrete tasks so as to avoid becoming overwhelmed.
    8) Cats and dogs and other pets need a clean, safe environment too.
    9) Knowledge of local laws regarding trash/garbage/recycling can be of enormous help.
    10) Look in each bag or container to make sure you don't throw away anything important to the resident. He or she may not be able to replace things due to cost.
    11) Post the videos, if you are so disposed, so your buddies and fans can share your adventures!
Thank you, Barbie, for sharing with us. I benefit more than I can say. Association with you, even if only digital, is a blessing. Bye

Thank you Barbie. The one thing I learned from watching your videos is that almost any home can be cleaned to look better. I’m amazed at how some NYC landlords get away with having people live in such conditions. I’d imagine that even when it’s clean it doesn’t resolve the vermin issues. I had to use your cleaning tips after rupturing my quad tendon last year. Things can definitely get out of control fast…so I don’t judge others who are having problems maintaining their place.

@@MagickMomma It was such a freak accident. I was walking down the stairs in my entryway..one of the treads was cracked. Felt like my foot was falling from underneath me. I overcorrected and felt the pop..then I fell. Thank God for Siri..I was able to scream to her to get help.

The most important thing I have learned from your videos is what a kind, caring, loving person you are. You do not judge others you have compassion. You’re an excellent cleaner too. I live in the Midwest of the USA and I have never seen any of these types of apartments. I have all of the conveniences that I need. It seems like it’s very hard for a person to live in the big city where the apartments are so small with barely any space to live. I think you’re a very pretty woman inside and out! I like to watch My Little Vintage Home and Southern Frugal Momma. Hope you’re feeling better and see you soon.

I started my own cleaning business inspired by Auri and you in some way! I've done a couple of free cleans but I could never do what you do-Its amazing the work that must go into these videos to make the cleaning look satisfying! I've learned the steam cleaner isn't for everyone-I got the one in your link but I could never get the hang of it!! Keep on making great content!

I've learned not to hoard clothes or dishes. Start with clearing a 3x5 area at a time and it won't be so overwhelming to clean.

I have learned so much from you! Where do I begin? I was able to clean a hoarder and mouse infested house for a veteran for free for 5 days! If I wasn't seeing your videos and learned to get used to some of it (minus the spiders or extreme bathroom cleanups) I couldn't have done it. I also learned from you how to clean bad stoves that I had to do for bad rental units. And to use Zep wall and oven cleaner plus the pink stuff! It all makes my life so much easier with 9 cats in the house, too! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!

Hi Barbie! I have learned that using bleach is not always the answer to cleaning and how to scrub floors by hand and using the pink stuff to clean and Zep. I had never heard of Zep before and to have more compassion for people.
