I wonder if bringing small plastic boxes that you can scoop trash into and then pour into the plastic garbage bags might make it easier? Getting it directly from the shovel into an amorphous bag looks irritating and harder on your back.

It's likely an abcess. So many more things get uncovered in these cleanings that need attention. Unsurprising but probably very easily fixable if the owner finds someone to look at the cat.
Plus it would require multiple people using every sanitation method known to modern man just to get a fraction of the "usable" things back into recyclable condition.
When people accuse you of throwing good stuff away they should realize how contaminated everything is and has long passed the opportunity to be cleaned properly to be fit for human use!

I rent a dumpster for my business that is never full. Everyone in the neighborhood knows Wednesday night. Stuff it! I’ve noticed fewer and fewer “items” around people’s homes. Happy to help.

Yes, ma'am, I have. I'm not criticizing any of the wonderful people who do the things Barbie, Mack, Auri, the Banijay group--no criticism of any of them, ever! But yes, I have helped others clean their homes, get them to a semblance of a real living space. I no longer can do so because I'm now almost 72, have serious mobitlity issues, and have suffered a devastating injury to my right side that has seriously affected everything from shoulder to toes, no exaggeration. I'm the one who could use the help now, although I maintain a minimalist environment for my own sake and safety. There is no one to ask, however, so I do the very best I can---I cannot mop the kitchen and bathroom floors in one go, so I do it little by little every time I'm in either room. Not a great method of cleaning the floors, but since I live alone, have no animals (nor do I want any!!!), it's acceptable. My apartment passes every inspection--they're done every two months--and that's the best I can hope for. But again, zero criticism here, though I do wonder...how often do YOU go help others in such a manner??

First of all you explained the reasons very well and second of all these cleanings would cost thousands of dollars and you do it for free. Still people are complaining. I have shoveled a lot of snow, most people don't know that snow weighs about 30 pounds per cubic foot. After, shoveling a very large driveway, you have muscles that you didn't even know that you had, will begin hurting. I can't understand how you work so very hard for so very long. You go home and take care of your family. You come back to continue working to finish the work. Anyone who has anything negative to say about your work ethics, work experience and knowledge, should just go pound salt. Your care, respect and willingness to help others to have a new start, keep them from being evicted, or have a safe, healthy, clean and comfortable place to live. Biohazard cleanups for homes this size ran from 18 to 20 thousand dollars each 10 years ago, which is what estates paid for the cleanup of deceased family members' homes like this one in order to sell them. None of the homes were perfect after the cleanup. There was usually a lot of damage exposed afterwards, and some homes had to be demolished. The cleanup crews consisted of 3 to 6 people over several days. Barbie is doing all of this while wearing a respirator. I can only imagine how exhausted she feels. Her poor back. Good work, Barbie!
I think people who want you to wash all the clothes don't understand the realities of NYC. There's no laundry or elevator in that building, which means all laundry has to be physically carried down the street to a coin laundromat (finding street parking would take so much longer than walking), wait 30 mins for the machine, change to the dryers, wait another 45 minutes, carry it all back upstairs. And if there aren't enough open machines to wash all of it at once you have to wait more. And if one trip through the laundry isn't enough to clean it .... repeat. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I noticed the cat too. I hope its been to see a vet. Nearly every time i watch one of your videos Barbie, I think that must be the worst apartment but I think this one must be it. Mental illness can't be cured with a clean home but it must go a long way to alleviating the anxiety this mum has suffered. I totally agree about reporting people. Living in filthy homes is not a crime, and separating families does more harm than good. Unless there is a real risk of harm or imminent danger, I totally agree that trust is crucial for giving the help these people need. Cant wait for the follow up next week!
Living in filthy homes is not a crime but forcing your children to live in a mouse infested dump is. You can call it whatever you want, "breaking up a family," but ultimately if you do not call CPS you are complicit in their neglect. There is a reason why teachers are legally required to call child protective services every time something suspicious comes up. It's because kids deserve a safe home, and if a safe home is one separate from a neglectful parent, then so be it. Living in a biohazard like this is, in itself, immediate danger.

I can't believe the progress you made in three days. My great aunts had a house that looked like this, and it took 13 of us to get through a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living room in two days. So that you got as much done as you did is great!

What an amazing clean up job!! Barbie you are a true hero! In regards to reporting families, I looked up the New York state regulations and house cleaners are NOT on the list of mandated reporters. So Barbie is not obligated to report to the authorities, unless she feels it is necessary. Providing practical help is what is desperately needed and that is what Barbie provides.

The reason this channel has my respect, is that she always helps the animals in some way. If she sees a kitty box that needs cleaned or pet beds that need cleaned , she always takes care of it. I appreciate that she helps the adults, but the animals and children have no choices and she always pays attention to them as well. It always fascinates me how a petite person like you has the power to move all those masses of garbage! That is a hard labor job! I am a social worker so i have seen a lot of flats in desperate conditions and always wished I had such an amazing and kind hearted resource. Often people need that push to be able to function in their living spaces again, so they can start taking care of themselves and their homes. Someone needs to rescue that cat. Barbie please let us know if there is a way to contact animal services to help. I understand the owner has mental health issues but dragging innocents into those living conditions either children or animals is simply not ok.
I wonder if bringing small plastic boxes that you can scoop trash into and then pour into the plastic garbage bags might make it easier? Getting it directly from the shovel into an amorphous bag looks irritating and harder on your back.

Barbie, if I was a neighbour there and you asked me, I would offer to take away their garbage every day. If she has anxiety, taking the garbage outside is too hard. Maybe someone would be willing to help? It's good for everyone in the building if the garbage goes out.

I rent a dumpster for my business that is never full. Everyone in the neighborhood knows Wednesday night. Stuff it! I’ve noticed fewer and fewer “items” around people’s homes. Happy to help.

Yes, ma'am, I have. I'm not criticizing any of the wonderful people who do the things Barbie, Mack, Auri, the Banijay group--no criticism of any of them, ever! But yes, I have helped others clean their homes, get them to a semblance of a real living space.
I no longer can do so because I'm now almost 72, have serious mobitlity issues, and have suffered a devastating injury to my right side that has seriously affected everything from shoulder to toes, no exaggeration. I'm the one who could use the help now, although I maintain a minimalist environment for my own sake and safety.
There is no one to ask, however, so I do the very best I can---I cannot mop the kitchen and bathroom floors in one go, so I do it little by little every time I'm in either room. Not a great method of cleaning the floors, but since I live alone, have no animals (nor do I want any!!!), it's acceptable. My apartment passes every inspection--they're done every two months--and that's the best I can hope for.
But again, zero criticism here, though I do wonder...how often do YOU go help others in such a manner??

I can’t understand why people complain about you not saving enough stuff in such hard conditions. First of all you explained the reasons very well and second of all these cleanings would cost thousands of dollars and you do it for free. Still people are complaining. I have shoveled a lot of snow, most people don't know that snow weighs about 30 pounds per cubic foot. After, shoveling a very large driveway, you have muscles that you didn't even know that you had, will begin hurting.
I can't understand how you work so very hard for so very long. You go home and take care of your family.
You come back to continue working to finish the work.
Anyone who has anything negative to say about your work ethics, work experience and knowledge, should just go pound salt.
Your care, respect and willingness to help others to have a new start, keep them from being evicted, or have a safe, healthy, clean and comfortable place to live.

Biohazard cleanups for homes this size ran from 18 to 20 thousand dollars each 10 years ago, which is what estates paid for the cleanup of deceased family members' homes like this one in order to sell them.
None of the homes were perfect after the cleanup. There was usually a lot of damage exposed afterwards, and some homes had to be demolished.
The cleanup crews consisted of 3 to 6 people over several days. Barbie is doing all of this while wearing a respirator. I can only imagine how exhausted she feels. Her poor back.

I think people who want you to wash all the clothes don't understand the realities of NYC. There's no laundry or elevator in that building, which means all laundry has to be physically carried down the street to a coin laundromat (finding street parking would take so much longer than walking), wait 30 mins for the machine, change to the dryers, wait another 45 minutes, carry it all back upstairs. And if there aren't enough open machines to wash all of it at once you have to wait more. And if one trip through the laundry isn't enough to clean it .... repeat. Ain't nobody got time for that.
💯 plus that stuff is so contaminated no one deserves to have to use a washer or dryer after that nastiness has been put in there!

Nearly every time i watch one of your videos Barbie, I think that must be the worst apartment but I think this one must be it. Mental illness can't be cured with a clean home but it must go a long way to alleviating the anxiety this mum has suffered. I totally agree about reporting people. Living in filthy homes is not a crime, and separating families does more harm than good. Unless there is a real risk of harm or imminent danger, I totally agree that trust is crucial for giving the help these people need.

You can call it whatever you want, "breaking up a family," but ultimately if you do not call CPS you are complicit in their neglect.
There is a reason why teachers are legally required to call child protective services every time something suspicious comes up. It's because kids deserve a safe home, and if a safe home is one separate from a neglectful parent, then so be it.

I can't believe the progress you made in three days. My great aunts had a house that looked like this, and it took 13 of us to get through a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living room in two days. So that you got as much done as you did is great!

What an amazing clean up job!! Barbie you are a true hero! In regards to reporting families, I looked up the New York state regulations and house cleaners are NOT on the list of mandated reporters. So Barbie is not obligated to report to the authorities, unless she feels it is necessary. Providing practical help is what is desperately needed and that is what Barbie provides.

The reason this channel has my respect, is that she always helps the animals in some way. If she sees a kitty box that needs cleaned or pet beds that need cleaned , she always takes care of it. I appreciate that she helps the adults, but the animals and children have no choices and she always pays attention to them as well. I am a social worker so i have seen a lot of flats in desperate conditions and always wished I had such an amazing and kind hearted resource. Often people need that push to be able to function in their living spaces again, so they can start taking care of themselves and their homes. They may not be able to keep everything immaculate, but most of the time, they are able to keep relatively clean houses. Thank you for all that you do!
