  • I recently provided sound for an outdoor dinner and karaoke party and let the client pick his preferred sound system. I setup a set of QSC K8.2's with 3 different lightweight subs - Behringer B1200D's, RCF 702AS MKII's, and Bose Sub1's. The QSC's volume was set for use with the Behringer B1200D's at an intermittent clipping level with a HPF of 100Hz. The RCF's were also set to clip intermittently with a HPF of 120Hz. The Bose Sub1's are set at 12 o'clock - no clipping. Their HPF is set for Bose S1 Pro's (150 Hz). In retrospect I think the standard HPF of 100Hz would work better with the QSC K8.2's.
    The Bose Sub1's are the winner in my opinion. They are much more powerful than their 480 Watt advertised power implies. They overpowered both sets of subs without clipping. These are also the lightest, most portable subs of the group - much like toting around a 35 lb suitcase - very easy to pack and move! They also have more and deeper output than Bose's B2 sub with 2 -- 10" Drivers powered off of the old L1 system.
    The Behringer B1200D's actually sound pretty darn good for $350 each. I definitely recommend them for those on a budget. They are the heaviest of the three - but also the cheapest by a long shot.
    The RCF's surprised me - I expected more output. They are just under 40 lbs and rated at 1400 watts. I didn't push them beyond intermittent clipping - maybe they need to be driven a bit harder - not sure.
    Let me know what you think!

    I run the RCF 702 from an aux out of a 12 channel Mackie Mixer. Set at 2:00 gain on 702, 80Hz. More power than Bose Sub1, but Sub1 is close. Bose Sub1 at 36lbs is the best portable sub on the market! Keep your eyes open in January for the new RCF TT08 sub. Dual 8 inch woofers, 2,000 watts peak/1,000rms, 129dB, 44lbs $1,850

      The RCF 702s are great compact subs. I didn’t buy them because they only have one main out. They are not stereo inputs. I sometimes want to run just one sub and can’t daisy chain two tops to one sub.

    Does the Bose sub have a clip light on it? If not how did you determine if the sub was clipping or not? Some clip/limiter systems in speakers do a good job of not letting a speaker that is over driven "sound" bad.

    • @bestproaudio4255
      @bestproaudio4255  2 года назад

      It does... The green light turns red when it clips. This is typical on most Bose speakers. They also do a good job of limiting when the speaker clips - does sound too bad - but there can be some audible distortion.

    How does the F1 Sub compare to the Sub2? I heard the F1 is louder and kicks harder.

      I haven't had the chance to try it either. I did hear a single F1 812 in a parking lot a few years ago and it was an all around impressive speaker. I've actually heard the opposite - the Sub2 louder than the F1 sub - but that's strictly from reviews on the internet... I haven't been able to test them.

    Sub 1 or Sub 2 sound like hifi or car subwoofer, it sounds very deep but not puchy.
    not have kick at 80hz like a traditional PA Sub.

    • @bestproaudio4255
      @bestproaudio4255  2 года назад

      Good comment. While they provide ample low frequency response, they don't quite pack the punch of a traditional sub. Maybe it's due to their compact size?

    • @sonny9546
      @sonny9546 2 года назад +1

      @@bestproaudio4255 I think it's due to the high excursion woofer, it look like an hifi or car woofer.
      I tested the sub 2 it sounds loud in the 50hz range but doesn't have the kick at 80hz like my other PA subwoofers and it distorts before the red light comes on
      It's a bit more powerful and a bit deeper than my PRX ONE's 12" sub, but it's also bigger and heavier.

      @@sonny9546 Good to know! Thanks for the info!! The most important aspect of the Sub1 for me is the size, weight and portability. I've stayed away from the Sub2 for that reason and purchased two Sub1's for each L1 Pro 32. The Sub1's being smaller may have a better response at 80hz... I'll have to test that!!

    Is it wrong if i add rcf sub 702 as 2 to Hdm 45 ? I dont need much loudness and power , but i want to release hdm 45 from the bass a little bit... Thanks

    • @bestproaudio4255
      @bestproaudio4255  2 года назад +1

      It's all about your needs, the 702's won't keep up with the HDM 45's if you plan to DJ a dance party, but they could certainly fill out the low end as you mention to let the HDM 45's breathe a bit. Just be aware that there are two crossover point settings on the 702's - 80Hz and 120Hz... I think the 80Hz setting would make most sense in this situation.

    I have a Bose SUB 1 and Behringer B1200D with Yamaha top boxes. When I do a quick side by side comparison I notice the Sub1 goes lower with a full bass sound which is great for acoustic double bass and tuba jazz. The B1200D not as low, but punches harder in pop and rock which is great for low end percussion and especially bass kick drum. But the SUB 1 has a minuscule delay in the kick drum compared to the B1200D, and this makes a big difference in the feel when the top boxes are "kicking" milliseconds before the sub "punch". Can some body please confirm this, is it because I am not using the Bose array which time aligns top and sub?

    • @yukikoishiharao4885
      @yukikoishiharao4885 5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, same observation. I believe Bose uses processing algorithm to enhance bass causing that ~5 to 7 millisec delay, enough to throw me off my finger drumming. Delay also happens in the Bose Revolve series too. Sucks. I switched to EV.

    I can’t the Behringer subs held their own and seem to have a more well found sound over the other two subs that can cost 3 to 4 times more and Behringer does it with about 1/2 the power consumption. Way to to Behringer.

      I liked the Sub1's... I could've cranked the K8.2's to match the output of the Sub1's - but wanted to keep them at the same level to demonstrate the output of each sub. Also - next time I use them with the QSC's - I'll adjust the HPF and use 100hz instead of 150hz...

      I may do a head to head with QSC K8.2's versus IP300's with Sub1's... I'd like to see the real world output of the two combos myself!! The QSC's are probably louder - but harsher highs. The IP300's have a much sweet sounding high end to them...
