Such a great episode guys! I love conversations like this. As usual, I’ve got some thoughts….. First off my theory on why people aren’t as excited with RPAs in UFC has to do with the fact that Team Jerseys are just way cooler than collecting a piece of someone’s spandex boxer briefs. I personally like fight mat relics, but I have no interest in owning Poatan’s underwear. I also think UFC collectors really like action, photography, and Immaculate, has very little of that. It’s really hard to know if those sets are ever gonna be that valuable in the future. I feel the same way about Topps midnight. I completely agree with Michael about concentrating on rookies and first autos rather than short printed off year cards and overprinted inserts. It’s funny though, if people only collected rookies in every set then like 90% of set would be worthless and not collectible. We will always need rainbow and set collectors.
HuskyTabby from IG here... your collection approach sounds like what I used to preach in the Facebook groups for years and was shunned by the Panini newbs who loved to chase the over printed, silly bedazzled parallels (it was a tough lesson for some). You should interview a collector who has been collecting since before Round 1... some of the early card history is fascinating... just like the SEG era of the UFC. One thing to always focus on is appeal and the print run. As mentioned, supply and demand. The Khabib rookie auto is a good example... only 149 base... and if you count the parallels, there are only 173 autos in total. So quite SP. Keep up the great content... love the discussion.
Awesome video bud and discussion 👍 Not many fighters with staying power IMO but you have a great list and great ideas. But when I see Diego Lopes rookies beating GSP in sales...... i dunno what to think. Lol Keep up the great content! 👊 😎
Good stuff, great interview. Michael has put together an awesome collection in a short amount of time. This is great information for new collectors to learn from, watching it multiple times wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Interesting 🧐 Just came back from the Burbank show in Anaheim & I met the Cardfather & bought a 1/1 Anderson Silva auto relic white whale , BGS 9 , Auto 10 We all have different opinions . I also collect mostly Rookies , first autos , but many 5/5 , 10/10 , 25/25 & 50/50 of my top 🔝 personal opinion future Goats I’ve already determined in my mind who will be the Mickey Mantle , Babe Ruth & Willie Mays of UFC ! And it’s George St Pierre , Conor MacGregor & Anderson Silva ! Next top 🔝 investments for me are Nate Diaz , Ronda Rousey , Royce Gracie , & Jon Jones These are the big 7 for me & I mostly focus on high end cards for these 7 goats Still buy a couple rare cards of many others like Cormier , Shane , Nunez , Joanna , Stipe Miocic , Alex , but the 7 above I have multiple of rare cards of all them Some of my actual favorite fighters like Lyoto Machida , Wonderboy 8 Joanna Jedrzejczyk I collect for fun but do not think will be valuable Also I’m not a panini fan & focus on to Topps from 2009-2018
Great video. Nice to see a face to collectors that I message all the time. You both have the right strategies for collecting and having fun in the hobby. Great job.
Thoroughly enjoyable & informative conversation guys! Appreciate the in-depth thinking Michael has in collecting. Not sure I've got the coin to be buying some of those bangers but indeed super nice to look and admire. Solid job here 👏
I think I’m completely out on UFC prospecting. It’s too risky because new fighters careers are so volatile. And there’s just way too many parallels to choose from with the newer products. For example Both Aspinall and Periera cards were so expensive right out of the gate. I can’t imagine those cards have even gone up much since they’ve become champs. So really what’s the point of prospecting as an investment? You’re pretty much never gonna make money. I agree with Michael that the new Topps products are basically the same as most of the Panjni products. I think the weak rookie class has really hurt it. I am hopeful as time goes on Topps will start doing some unique things. Like more On-card autos and event-used relics. Possibly even getting some people who haven’t signed in a long time to sign. Although I think the marketing they are doing is great. It’s been way better than anything Panini did. It will definitely bring new people into the hobby.
I’m with you on prospecting. The only way I’m going to put any money into anyone is if they’re dirt cheap. (Which has eliminated almost everyone from the past two years). 🤞for some heat from Topps to close out the year.
@@InternetMunchies What if you had the 50 most sought after cards? But I understand what you’re saying there are people out there with a crazy amount of insane cards.

😂you don’t want Poatans underwear?! Ya of all the relics the gloves and event used mats are the best to me.
