  • Day 1 of SEC Meetings in Destin got underway on Tuesday and we heard from many of the SEC Football Coaches as they addressed the media and spoke on a number of topics. But one of the biggest topics facing the immediate future of college football - with the House vs NCAA settlement and revenue sharing coming, will we see a change in "roster limitations", potentially trimming rosters down to as low as 85 players, and potentially the elimination of walk-ons. Needless to say, several coaches like Shane Beamer and Mike Elko are not fans (especially when you consider Beamer himself was a walk-on!) We also get quotes from Alabama's Kalen DeBoer, Georgia's Kirby Smart and Arkansas' Sam Pittman.
In addition, we hear Florida coach Billy Napier address the Jaden Rashada lawsuit, Steve Sarkisian and Brent Venables talked about Texas & Oklahoma joining the conference, while Auburn coach Hugh Freeze gave an update on RB Brian Battie who was injured in a serious shooting recently.
And Lane Kiffin says that Kirby Smart is now the "lead" in the SEC coaches meetings with Nick Saban now retired.

Aggie here, about the walk-ons. I'm all for making sure the players get every opportunity that comes their way, monetary and otherwise. I don't like the idea of eliminating walk-ons. There's gotta be a way to still let guys try to fulfill their dreams. There needs to be some considerable flexibility when it comes to students trying to join their team.

I don’t think Deboer allows himself to get caught up in any one thing. That’s why he stays so grounded during the games. I can’t wait to see him coach at Alabama.

So are they gonna get rid of the Bulsworth Award if they get rid of walk-ons??? But since Kirby Smart said walk-ons are important they are not gonna get rid of them LOL

The coaches will steer the decisions or it will be corrected later. Walkons will continue.

5:14 that’s him not understanding the South. I’ll die for a walk on. There’s not reason we should have less that what we had. Thousands of life’s have been saved with Walk on jobs

If Theresa one single player worth his weight in salt in every team there will never be an end to walk on’s. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Players gotta take a stand for the future

No doubt UGA has a great team and has had a great run but if you say they have not had the benefit of less than "hard" schedules you're kidding yourself.

The statements by Kirby and Billy are very telling. Kirby was parsing, which means there is more there but probably not much. More than likely, he got a briefing from Jaden’s legal team and wanted to ensure this drama wasn’t being brought in house.
Billy went to extra mile to comment on his actions. Probably means his legal team feels good about their position in all this. He will probably be dropped from the suit soon.
In the end what Kirby said which was “sign of the times” is the worst part. This could become common for lots of reasons. NIL will ruin college football. Mostly because these kids are not mature enough to handle this money and most are sounded by bad influences (agents, family etc) that have their own agendas

I’m for spinning off the current version of college football as the NFL’s minor league and start over with “walk on’s” like college athletics was originally set up to do.
