- On today's show, we discuss the latest regarding two more offseason Georgia football player arrests as Smael Mondon and Bo Hughley were arrested this week for reckless driving, as we ask - how does this keep happening in Athens? Clearly Kirby Smart has more than sent a message to his players about being responsible when driving, but why is the message not being received? Meanwhile, running back Trevor Etienne reaches a plea deal in his DUI offseason arrest.
Also, we touch on Auburn adding former Maryland LB Fa'Najae Gotay to their roster for this season, Georgia adds a former basketball player to their offensive line in Jarzare Jackson, South Carolina adds a 2025 WR in Lex Cyrus, Arch Manning changes his mind and decides to be included in the EA Sports College Football 25 video game, and Jayden Daniels is named the SEC's Male Athlete of the Year.
Also, we are joined by author Colby Newton who's new book "SEC Football: How A Regionals League Became A National Obsession" is hitting bookstores this coming week. Newton discusses the evolution of the Southeastern Conference, some of its history, and how it's become the biggest, baddest conference in all of college sports.

The only thing Kirby hasn’t done is taken them to a race track and let them race legally. Maybe that would work. 😂🦅
22 arrests in 8 months sometimes liek 2 deaths! Thank you for talking about this seems everyone of the big media outlets are just like "oh it's GA they're good at football so anyway" it's very strange honestly
I didn't know wreckless driving was such a minor offense. Shouldn't be a felony, I guess, but the fine should be a stiff one.
I’m willing to bet it’s those biker cops that’s catching all these Georgia players. Those biker cops are impossible to see.
Misdemeanor ≠ Civil Traffic violation
Hmmm, this is just so hard to figure out. What is the one thing Kirby does not do that most other coaches have and nipped this kind of thing in the bud? What could it be. So complicated. Oh, wait, how about kicking someone off the team!?? Suspension of games! Nope because Kirby not losing a player for a single game means more than anyone else's safety. Say what you want about Jeremy Pruitt, but Banks was kicked off the team for driving stupid at 2am on a suspended license. And guess what? No one has had any dui issues, or driving issues. Took Banks many months before he earned his way back in the team. Who cares how little the bail it, its Athens for heck sakes, the cops there go out of their way to lenient with these players. But you or I, well, that's a different story. This way Kirby can say, "well, we'll punish depending on the severity of the offense according their charges and outcomes of police findings".. Embarrassing.
Anything over 30 miles over the limit can be arrested for
Someone needs to tell these kids “speed kills” doesn’t just apply to the football field, it also applies to the road. Stop putting peoples lives at risk GEORGIA😡
Start yanking scholarships! Talks, drills, game suspensions are nothing to these guys. The other issue that’s more concerning is their blatant lack of respect for Kirby and the university.
Alabama won the most SEC championships. Alabama won the first divisional SEC championship in 1992 and the last divisional SEC championship in 2023. RTR

Gee you think he needs to start sending a message of, "punishment". Two people have already died, and many months ago. We are way past any level or normalcy here in relation to punishment. We are talking about avoidance by this staff to do the right thing by these kid's parents, families and for the communities safety. Maybe a law suit will be the only thing that finally forces UGA to take some real discipline action.
Players at other programs are getting caught for reckless driving, but they are getting tickets. Tickets don't make headlines.
@@CinHotlanta But none of those universities have repeating offenses nearly on the same scale UGA does. And to my knowledge no one's been killed except here at UGA. A staffer and player. 19 offenses since January and of course 3 arrests every 3 months or every season. Winter, Spring, now Summer since that incident.. Tickets and arrests are bad enough. What's causing it to continue is there are no consequences. Kirby is afraid if he suspends someone, they will leave the team. They don't respect him and Kirby not suspending and kicking some of these idiots off the team is why we are where we are today.
@@gwhite7136 It's a tragedy that happened, but if you think it's the only program with players driving well over the speed limit you are absolutely deluding yourself.
In Athens they arrest players for driving the wrong way on a 1-way street - these things ARE happening with other programs, but what gets you arrested in Athens gets you ticketed in most other towns so there are no headlines.
Athens police are not athlete friendly - or even student friendly. They LOVE making arrests, it's very much a wolf-sheep relationship. When I went from high school in Atlanta to Athens the difference in the overall nature of the police from one to the other was a major culture shock.
@@CinHotlanta So odd. Maybe Kirby should write the police dept a donation check? 😆
@@LockedOnSEC it will never change, they've been this way for decades - and they're not targeting players - they target EVERYONE.
So many visiting tailgaters get snared by the super-rigid enforcement of the already-draconian open container ordinance by stepping too far from a restaurant with their beer, or literally stepping one foot onto a city street that bisects the campus to navigate a densely packed stretch of sidewalk.
Thank goodness for those cops then😂
Take away NIL money for all teams will stop some of this idiot actions.
Colby Newton is an LSU hater.
