    After watching this video about 3 times and taking notes, i finally tried it on my dad. It took a long time but by the end i was pretty impressed as it was my first time cutting hair or using clippers. I really like the comb and clipper technique you showed here, it made me feel like i have more control that i'd have had using clipper guards. Thanks for the video!

    Very good video detailing a basic haircut. Good point about detachable blades and potential ear cuts. The moving blade can easily try come into contact with the back of the client’s ear. I employ a centre, side by side scissor over comb technique as you do. Nice to see your Feather Artist Club SS razor at work.

    I agree. Thinning shears are a tool to help those who cannot remove the lines with scissor over comb technique.

    Thank you for this video. Glad I found and follow you now. I loved how you broke up the top in 5 sections. It totally made sense to me, I have always struggled with blending. The holding the ear with the comb 🤯. I love learning little bits like that to make the big picture better. Thanks you 🙏🏼

      Blending can be tricky. I'll use a thinning shear for blending sometimes.

  • @andyheller2691
    @andyheller2691 5 лет назад +4

    Thinning shears if used properly can be used. Most barbers use them to much. They do work great for blending sometimes but not to much. Great video! I've got 28 years in now and the two styles I give the most are like this video and short military cuts. It's been that way here in Jamestown, ND. We don't get the newer styles around here. Just 90 miles away Fargo does though. I'm mainly in farm country. Funny how that works.

    First street-- that was an excellent haircut not a bowl cut that you see other barbers do and the shave around the neck and ears was the way it used to be done a long time ago when I got a haircut in Detroit. On the back and sides try a 1 1/2or a 2 1/2 oster depending on the hair length and what the customer wants following the contour of the head saves time in blending so far you are the best on this site and cut hair the way it was in the past

    Reason why the cut looks fantastic on this client is because the barber follows the shape of the skull with his comb. Something that is a little challenging with clipper guards. Takes a while to develop this sense of mastery.

    1000% agree about the use of thinning shears. Those are for Cosmetologists who lack certain Barber techniques. Ive come across a lot of barbers who whip out the thinning shears and act like its a skill or something- the thinners do all the work for you! I admit when I left barber school I used to use my 44/20 thinning shears(side note: 44/20 is an exceptional company and their "Chief" and "Sergeant" shears are sweet- and yes their thinning shears(Taper Fine) are top notch for only $125), but after a month- the client almost jumped out the chair when he seen me grab them. He told me that his hair grew back like sh*t, split ends, spikey and very uneven. Great presentation and Ive subbed.

    Thanks for this tutorial. I cut my husband's hair for the third time and this is the best one yet. However, it took me a really long time to finish and one of the reasons is that his hair is very fine, so even the fine tooth part of the comb wouldn't hold it well (even after I misted it). Does anyone have suggestions on how to do clipper over comb with someone who has hair so fine it simply falls out of the comb?

    If thinning scissors are misused they might not give the best cut you’re trying to achieve as part of scissor over comb. I’m not knocking your work because you did a nice cut on this guy. You and I just have our own preferences.

    I think your explanation was great and the back of the haircut was great. However, in my opinion, the sides look a little choppy. I feel that it would've been cleaner had you used guards on the side

    I Don't like thinning scissors as well i believe that it's more for un professional barbers . We had a girl she used to blend the hair with thinning scissors the hair looked alright but not when the customers comes back after 1 week complaining of buffy hair.

    • @carolinabarbershop
      @carolinabarbershop 5 лет назад +1

      It's a faster way of point cutting.
      People didn't like guards. Clipper over comb is what real barbers did. Same goes for clippers. Real barbers used scissors only.

    • @hewhew4087
      @hewhew4087 5 лет назад +1

      I can accept some barbers prefer to use some tools on most of their haircuts. That fine. There are also experienced barbers who know when to use the appropriate tools to give the best cut to the client based on hair type.
      Maybe the girl as you call her hadn’t fully mastered using thinning scissors. We all will get better with time; didn’t you?

    • @hewhew4087

      Carolina Barber 😀
      Real barbers, the Master Barbers, didn’t limit themselves to certain tools. Some barbers, many barbers, perhaps, not only used scissors but also razors to cut hair. Have you ever used hand clippers? Real barbers used to use hand clippers too. IJS...
