  • Опубликовано: 15 сен 2024
  • Thirty-one-year-old Deobra Redden is accused of attempted murder, battery, extortion by threat, intimidating a public officer, and willful disregard for the safety of others after he attacked District Judge Mary Kay Holthus in January 2024 during a hearing where Holthus was sentencing him for an unrelated attempted battery charge. Redden's defense attorneys argued that he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, which allegedly caused him to lunge at the judge after he failed to take his medication. Judge Holthus said Redden slammed her head against the wall before he grabbed her head and ripped some of her hair out.

People plead not guilty to the charges. I don’t think he’d deny he attacked her (unless he’s that delusional) but he’d say his intent was not an attempt to take her life. If he was charged with something less regarding assault, etc. he might plead guilty or no contest to that because it’s factual he assaulted her. Idk what a lesser charge would be in legal terms.

Hopefully, this incident will serve as a cautionary example to judges to remind them of the fact that they like defendants, claimants, attorneys, and the likes need to temper their speech by watching their mouths.
Judges are not above reproach, nor are they as untouchable as they think. Judge Holthus found out the hard way.
In her rush to sentence, she missed the opportunity to remark on the 'sincere energy' Redden seemed to exibit when making his plea for probation. Telling him that he FAILED to have that energy, make it sincere, and sustain it before reaching her court again, might have knocked some, if not all, the wind out of his sails.
Never miss an opportunity to teach otherwise, and especially with judges, it's just complacency.
