    For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕

      I wish I felt that way.

      @lindas9806 Just stay consistent, and it'll get better. Do you mind if I ask what has happened to make you feel that way?

      @ he does pretty good during the day but in the evening he really wants to nip at me all night and I've been trying the ignore method but he doesn't seem to get it. And it's pretty aggravating now that he's 6 1/2 months old. I'm also working through him sudden suddenly barking at cars people and other dogs on our walks and he never did that before so it's difficult to get all the exercise in. And as I'm writing this he he is trying to use my arm as a chew bone. We average about 4 to 5 miles of activity a day and I do mental toys but he gets bored really easy.

      @lindas9806 One thing to keep in mind is that dogs get better at what they practice. So, during the training phase (when you're teaching them how to behave), you want to prevent them from practicing the undesired behaviors, otherwise they'll become habits, which are much harder to get rid of. So, regarding the biting, I would recommend putting him on a leash so you can hold him at arms length when he starts, wait until he calms down and can focus on you, and then use a toy to play tug and stuff. This will show her what's appropriate to bite on and what's not. As long as you're consistent with that, he'll start to get the idea. But the key is the leash (even in the house) while he learns the positive behaviors.
      As far as barking at the cars and stuff, you want to practice what I call "Existence Socialization," which is just the idea of conditioning the dog to outside stimuli so he doesn't see it as a big deal. I have a video on my channel that goes over the steps to building it up.
      Another thing I'd suggest is more mental exercise. Physical exercise is necessary, yes, but if you ONLY do physical exercise, then you're building an athlete. And, just like with human athletes, if it takes an hour of exercise to wear them out this week, then next week it'll take 2 hours to reach that same level of exhaustion, and the following week it'll take 3 hours, and so on. So you want to do things like "Place," where you're asking them to be calm and relaxed for an extended period. This is what will build his impulse control. And you'll find that mental exercise wears them out WAY faster than physical exercise. I have a video on my channel that goes over "Place," as well as one that goes over "Leave It," both of which are great mental exercises.
      Another thing to note is that puppies need a tremendous amount of sleep per day for optimum development. It's between 16 and 18 hours. And it has to be deep, REM sleep, not half-awake naps. If they don't get it, then, just like with human toddlers, they'll get cranky, they'll lose their impulse control, and may become destructive. Oftentimes those nuisance puppy behaviors like mouthing and jumping are symptoms of the dog being overtired, so if you give them that sleep then you'll see them calm down with those things a lot more. And it sounds like this may be the case with your puppy. So give them a nice, quiet, calm place to take regular naps throughout the day, just like we would a toddler.
      I hope that helps. If you need anything, please feel free to reach out. Good luck, and don't be too hard on yourself. Puppies can be difficult for everyone. 🐶❤️

      @ that helps, gave me some new ideas. I was wondering about the sleep he still needs that much sleep at 6 1/2 months? I'm thinking that I need to put his crate in a room so there's no activity going on around him because I don't really see him knocked out except for brief periods of time. How about him tearing up my vegetable garden. He knows it's food -- he eats it but he's destroying all f it. Even goes after my compost bin. He gets plenty of food.

    So after my puppy learns place how does she know where place is when I am somewhere with her and don't have the bed?

    • @lbmautos
      @lbmautos 5 месяцев назад

      Heel and down stay are what's needed in those cases. Place is usually for at home or if you so happen to have their bed or mat.

    Very informative and useful training video, thank you. I especially loved the bloopers at the end to remind us that even a very well trained dog like Omen is still a dog. 🙂

    What's the best way to transition from "bed" (one specific spot) to "place?"

    Hi, loved this video and how you started the training without the dog and then showed us with.
    How long would you recommend to spend training. Just 10 minutes a day or perhaps 10 minutes a few times a day for example?

    My pup doesn't seem to understand free. He is always quick to offer a full down and getting him lured onto the mat is easy, but he has no concept of being released.

    So essentially im not going to teach them specifically where the cot is as place but rather the cot itself is place?

    How is using this different from having them go to their crate

    • @sus425
      @sus425 2 года назад +3

      This lets them be calm whilst also still being part of what’s going on. Once your dog has a good place it can be used anywhere, at cafes, other peoples houses etc

      We use a towel but its her towel and it only comes out when training place dont leave it lying around all the time, so when it comes out your dog knows this is time to place

    Great training video. Once the pet learns to respond to place command, is it possible to teach the pet to stay in that place position for 30 mins or an hour ?

    • @shfarmhouse7229

      Yes, once it’s taught, a dog is expected to stay until you give them the release command.

      Lol, the fact that you felt the need to comment this is really sad... What exactly was your intention of telling her this, instead of just moving on with your life after 55 seconds
