how's the Spark a better follow me drone than Magic 3 if it doesn't have obstacles avoidance ?
Is this another price to value video ?

Both the Spark and the Mavic 3 are not follow-me drones. They use active-track which is not GPS but optical and works completely different. I much prefer GPS follow-me.
And you don't need obstacle avoidance if you use the sensors in your head you were born with. Just fly your drone away from obstacles.
But yes this is a worthless video by someone who has no idea.

@@driewielYou sound knowledgeable….Is there a follow me drone that will follow a wrist beacon and will automatically return to the takeoff point when the battery gets low? For windsurfing or wing foiling for example.

@@fentonpainter7907Practically all GPS drones follow your phone, and return home to where it took off. Often the app has a gyro function with which you can control the drone. And most have virtual sticks in the app. Put it in a plastic bag and in theory it could work. Don't expect wonders. Flying with virtual sticks is nah.....not nice.
But the software, mainly the app, is important. On a cheap drone the app is often much to basic. While for example using Litchi, Maven, or Dronelink with a DJI Mavic Mini or Mini 2 (not SE) will give you all kind of settings. Like for instance set the return-home location. Which could be where it took off, or to you, or to a desert island you want to live.
Besides GPS follow-me these third party apps will also add a more or less working optical active-track. I would say that the best deal is a used DJI Mavic Mini (1) together with Maven. Maven seems to have just the edge when it comes to follow-me from what I have seen.
Another drone you may want to look at is the Walkera T210. It does have an optical tracker device but not cheap. I can't understand why they don't want to add follow-me just with the phone as well? Anyhow, they designed this drone specifically as a follow-me/tracking drone with voice control etc. It's still not a 100% finished product. So watch reviews and ask owners.
If you want to go really fancy then SwellPro has waterproof drones with follow-me. I don't know their drones too well. They're expensive so not many people will have one.
As for budget drones, $80-$150, I have tried a lot. The problem is programmers cost money. They give the features little attention. The apps often suck. And the follow-me hardly ever works good enough to follow me on a bicycle. Of course on a bicycle I do not want the drone to fly back. I want to drone to fly to where I am at that moment. But in your case that is water. It would be great if they made a cheap waterproof GPS drone with properly programmed follow-me that floats!
Now it you just want to try any drone and you never had one, then check out the AE10 on Ali Express for around $75. It does not have a gimbal. But the camera is not too bad. And from what I have seen the follow-me should work to some degree.
I bought a L200 from Bang Good for €90. I wasn't expecting much. But the video is actually really good. It has everything, GPS, brushless motors, 2-axis gimbal + EIS, rechargeable controller with telemetry screen, SD card slot. It don't think it can handle string winds!
The idea is you get on a bicycle, get a bit of experience and skills, see what a follow-me feature is about. Would I recommend them for your windsurfing? No. But I would not recommend a $1000 DJI Mini 4 Pro either! It may work and the optical active tracking is great 99% of the time. It's the other 1% I'm worried about. So perhaps better get a cheap drone with follow-me first? Optical tracking and obstacle avoidance you will only find on very high-end drones. You need the best cameras and sensors to trust it to some degree. DJI does offer a tracker device. You can't carry that big Smart controller of course.
Finally, the Skydio 2 was the best tracking drone. But it is out of production. I doubt you will find one used.

@@fentonpainter7907 To add. There are two types of GPS follow-me, string and compass. With string it will slide away and follow from behind. With compass type it will stay north south east west where you put it no matter how you turn. I much prefer compass type so I can have it fly in view. Not many apps for cheap drones have that. But Litchi, Maven, Dronelink do plus other settings. That is why in my mind a DJI Mini model compatible with one of those is a great travel/activity drone. Probably better than a Mini 4 Pro!
Then better drones have a homepoint update. So you don't have to race back.
On some drones you can use the sticks in follow-me mode. While using the sticks other drones immediately stop follow-me. On my C-Fly Mini I can't use the sticks at all which makes it completely useless.
Unfortunately drone reviewers on YT don't have a clue how follow-me should and can work. And they never test it like it should be tested. I can only guess if the feature is usable in real life. Or buy the drone myself.
