  • DMX 193 Controller Unboxing and Programming DMX stands for Digital Multiplex DMX512 (Digital Multiplex) is a standard for digital communication networks that are commonly used to control stage lighting and effects. It was originally intended as a standardized method for controlling light dimmers, which, prior to DMX512, had employed various incompatible proprietary protocols. It soon became the primary method for linking controllers (such as a lighting console) to dimmers and special effects devices such as fog machines and intelligent lights. DMX has also expanded to uses in non-theatrical interior and architectural lighting, at scales ranging from strings of Christmas lights to electronic billboards. DMX can now be used to control almost anything, reflecting its popularity in theatres and venues.

    This is how I learned to do do lights. Analog first and then computer software. I use soundswitch now but it definitely helps to have this base of knowledge before moving to more advanced lighting methods.

    I don't feel like scrolling through the comments but I would like to say the terminator is not necessary unless you have a long runs it should work without it. it is just good practice to do as it eliminates Signal reflection which could influence the data on the wire. Good to have them around to terminate problems.

      The comment I was lookong for as I was wondering about this. You you still need one if they were connected wirelessly?

    • @imark7777777
      @imark7777777 2 года назад +1

      @@davedmwall I'm assuming a system of one transmitter multiple receivers or receiver on either side of the stage kind of thing? Probably not. I've done set ups with 4 dimmer packs and at least 100 feet of cable with no terminator. I've also worked with a band that has 2 or 4 multicolor LED lights on either side of the stage with a receiver on each set and then daisychained no issue.

    Ahh, the old “Instructions are found on the Google, or on the RUclips” trick. It saves low cost Dj tech makers from telling you anything. At that point, you simply have to hope that a good RUclips or Google Samaritan can inform you of how to use the product, since the product developer can’t be bothered to.
    The other joy is, when I buy lower cost par lights, or moving head lights, to mix into the background of my more costly Chauvet or ADJ versions, the instructions never seize to amaze me. They usually have a ton of typos and odd wording, such as, “The lite plug to make work.” That’s a direct quote with the typos included. It’s actually one of the better examples. Here’s another winner, “We assumes no responsibility and specifically disclaims any and all liability for any loss, damage or disruption caused by any errors or omissions in this document.” English wasn’t even my first or second language, so it reminds me of when I just moved to the US with my parents before my sister and I learned how to speak English fluently.
    Now to be fair, some of my lower cost lights have the same brightness level as my more expensive ones, but the color reproduction for certain shades isn’t as nice in certain cases. There have been two incredible exceptions that have floored me and made me return, or sell my more expensive equivalent lights in favor of their far cheaper alternatives. The “LaluceNatz 20 In 25W 108LEDs RGB Wash Light Bar” has exceptional color reproduction and light blending. It works best when it’s very dark though, but the results are stunning when it’s dark enough. It also has a sturdy metal casing, despite lacking the remote functionality that my other light had, it’s easy to use, and it’s auto fade mode is beautiful.
    The other cost effective surprise I’ve been using as a backup for my dual second generation ADJ Stingers is the “DJ Lights,SAHAUHY 2 in 1 Professional Stage Light Mixed Effect Sound Activate.” This one not only comes with a remote, but it has a very good sound activated mode for the price. The most impressive thing however is how the red and green laser lights, as well as the derby effect LED lights, are actually brighter than my original gen 1 ADJ Stinger. It also looks incredibly professional sitting on top of my low cost Rockville DJ Totems. When it comes to speakers, while I use the superb Rockville Hydraulic Speaker Stands, Skrims, Dj Facade, Fog Machine, Totems and their included bags, my speakers and other gear are all either EV or QSC and Numark. I think with anything, you have to balance the gear that you can get very good knockoffs of, such as par lights, derby lights and lighting strips, with one or two ADJ or Chauvet lights, and high quality speakers, mixers and actual DJ gear.
    This video was very informative, and to the point. Thanks for taking the time to make it! I have a lot of event lights and didn’t want to spend a lot for a DMX controller, but wanted to program my moving head lights to only face the dance floor for a wedding event. It didn’t make much sense to buy an expensive controller for such a basic function, and this video helped make my decision much easier.

    Thanks Philip! Is there a way to fade from scene 1 to 2 and back to 1? Without using a chase.

    • @PhilipCockram
      @PhilipCockram  5 лет назад +2

      Sorry Mathieu there is not . You would have to do it manually .

    Remember to use DMX cables. Not XLR microphone cables for lighting. Your gear will thank you for it.

    Can i save a chase to auto fade or do i have to adjust the fade everytime i change between chases?

      You have to adjust every time with this unit 💃🕺🏻🎸👍🏼 Thanks for watching .

    Hi! Thanks for posting! Just got the exact same lights, but they dont reapond to dmx data. What mode did you have them in for this to work?

    • @PhilipCockram
      @PhilipCockram  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting . The lights should be set to d001 or p001 depending on the light ,

    Do you need to use the blank terminator for moving heads?

    • @PhilipCockram
      @PhilipCockram  3 года назад

      Yes I think so . There needs to be something at the output on the last fixture so the signal stops . I would try it if you are having problems . They are very cheap . Thanks for watching .

    Hi! Thanks for the awesome video!
    Is there any way to nicely fade between scenes, but not continuous as demonstrated in video? (auto mode)

    • @PhilipCockram
      @PhilipCockram  5 лет назад +1

      If I understand you correctly . Yes by adjusting the speed . It is very sensitive and I had it up high to demo for the video. Thanks Jaco

    Did yours power up without the DMX cable connected? I wonder if mine was faulty from the start..

    • @PhilipCockram
      @PhilipCockram  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching . Yes the unit powers up and can be programmed without any cables or lights plugged into it .
      I have even moved cables and lights around while the unit was on and it didn't cause any troubles .
      It does soundlike your unit is faulty .
      Hopefully you can return or get it replaced .
