DMX 192 Controller Unboxing and Programming

- DMX 193 Controller Unboxing and Programming DMX stands for Digital Multiplex DMX512 (Digital Multiplex) is a standard for digital communication networks that are commonly used to control stage lighting and effects. It was originally intended as a standardized method for controlling light dimmers, which, prior to DMX512, had employed various incompatible proprietary protocols. It soon became the primary method for linking controllers (such as a lighting console) to dimmers and special effects devices such as fog machines and intelligent lights. DMX has also expanded to uses in non-theatrical interior and architectural lighting, at scales ranging from strings of Christmas lights to electronic billboards. DMX can now be used to control almost anything, reflecting its popularity in theatres and venues.
I hope you enjoy the show. Love and Peace from Canada
We are RUclips //// You and Me
This is, by far, the best explanation and demo on programming this unit that I’ve come across on RUclips. Thank you for taking your time to make and post this video!!!
Thanks for watching and commenting . I am glad you enjoyed it and hopefully found it helpful .
Hi, can I use my 25 ft xlr mic cables?
Thanks for posting this never used this equipment before ,I tried the instructions & got absolutely nowhere .Watched this & now got a better idea.
Thank you
THANK YOU! I have avoided working with AV equipment for years as a music teacher and this was so helpful to program a little light show to go along with our concert!
This is how I learned to do do lights. Analog first and then computer software. I use soundswitch now but it definitely helps to have this base of knowledge before moving to more advanced lighting methods.
Still rocking it in 2024! I'm just getting into Lighting up my home studio and waiting for this same DMX Controller to arrive in the mail. THANK YOU for sharing this learning process. I appreciate you. New Subscriber here, Cheers from Western Australia
I don't feel like scrolling through the comments but I would like to say the terminator is not necessary unless you have a long runs it should work without it. it is just good practice to do as it eliminates Signal reflection which could influence the data on the wire. Good to have them around to terminate problems.
The comment I was lookong for as I was wondering about this. You you still need one if they were connected wirelessly?
@@davedmwall I'm assuming a system of one transmitter multiple receivers or receiver on either side of the stage kind of thing? Probably not. I've done set ups with 4 dimmer packs and at least 100 feet of cable with no terminator. I've also worked with a band that has 2 or 4 multicolor LED lights on either side of the stage with a receiver on each set and then daisychained no issue.
@@imark7777777 cool stuff thanks for the reply
Thanks for that! I could follow that. You are very good at explaining things.
I have watched other videos and I've been more confused after I've watched them!
Just a good 'oll, brilliant DMX programming 101 video! Not many of these in this day and age, thanks Mr C!
Glad you enjoyed it . Thanks .
Brilliant video, I've been fighting with a dmx controller and it was about to go in the bin. Your video has made it all make sense - thank you
I also bought this controller with wireless connections. This video was good for starting, thx!
Thanks for watching and commenting
Hi, just want to say thank you for this tutorial video, thanks to you I got to understand how to set scenes and chases with my moving head on my dmx. Thank you again
Blessings and Thanks to you my Friend . I;m so glad this video has helped you and so many others.
This helped me, thank you.
I'd been trying to use the one I'd purchased and had no idea I needed a terminator.

Thanks this is absolutely the best to the point tutorial ive come across. Extremely helpful, got a kick out of you pointing out they have us coming to youtube. Thanks again. Lets hope i understand and can get mine working.
Really glad it helped . Sometimes it takes a few tries and don't be afraid to Reboot
thanks so much! all the other tutorials on these cheap desks have made no sense to me at all! Now i feel i have a new part of my brain that i can use! whoop!
Thanks , Glad it helped . That's why i made this . I found the other tutorials confusing as well . LOL
Gr8 instructions and simple...programmed a ton of functions with np name par lights .thanks
So good! You made this basic and simple compared to the other videos on Yoytube, thanks!
You're very welcome!
Thank you very much brother about this video, i just bought dmx,,,,,,,,,South Africa
Thank you for watching and commenting .
Thanks for the info Phillip, I didn't know you needed a terminator for the end of the daisy chain. that could be the problem i am having. orders some today. thanks again
Hi Robert . I have not had time to work on this more . I did get the terminators but haven't followed up on this yet . thanks for your comments
Great video. Thanks
It is very interesting.I wish I could have this long time ago in my studio ..Thank you for great review
Thanks Elena . The new lighting options nowadays are really cool .
the best video about DMX on youtube , help me a lot !!!! , thanks !!!!!!!!
Thank you that helped a lot
I just got one and I've got to figure it out by the weekend so i look like a pro at the festival i'm going so perfect explanation, very clear
Cheers
Thanks for watching and commenting . I'm glad it helped . Good luck with your festival .
finally a good teacher. thank you
Thank you for watching and commenting James .
I've always wondered about how hard it would be to set up a dmx system. I just run my lights on music auto mode. This was cool to watch.
Great to hear from you. I would advise leaving them in auto mode . DMX is a costly and time consuming path . If you are pro i recommend . But for people just wanting good lighting go auto .
I have the same controller and lights. Finally trying to figure out how to use them
Phillip Thank you for your tutorial. Better then all the rest. ? If you have time can you make a video to connect martins and moving heads . Thanks have a great day.
Thanks for watching and commenting .
Sorry , but i've kinda moved on from the lighting thing now . Into flying RC planes mostly now .
Have a great day as well . Sorry for the late reply.
Whats funny is i saw this item on ebay. Copy and pasted the name of it on youtube... only to find out the instructions said look it up on google or youtube. I did good. Im happy!
LOL Same thing for me. I didn't like the tutorial I found so I made my own . Thanks for the comment
Watching again. And I would like to be the first pole dancer at Phil’s disco pole
Yippee my first booking ....We are trying to come up with a good name . The Champagne lounge sounds a bit more classy than the Tequila Hole . Got any suggestions .???
I like the champagne lounge
@@LifewithKenandJane I don't have any champagne though. Better get some . LOL Maybe I can mix the beer with tequila and pass that off
I agree with Lisa on the Disco 💃 Watching and supporting 🤠👍
Lisa and Stephanie will be the only one watching that I think , LOL 😂
Thank you very much. Excellent video.
Thanks for watching and commenting .
Ahh, the old “Instructions are found on the Google, or on the RUclips” trick. It saves low cost Dj tech makers from telling you anything. At that point, you simply have to hope that a good RUclips or Google Samaritan can inform you of how to use the product, since the product developer can’t be bothered to.
The other joy is, when I buy lower cost par lights, or moving head lights, to mix into the background of my more costly Chauvet or ADJ versions, the instructions never seize to amaze me. They usually have a ton of typos and odd wording, such as, “The lite plug to make work.” That’s a direct quote with the typos included. It’s actually one of the better examples. Here’s another winner, “We assumes no responsibility and specifically disclaims any and all liability for any loss, damage or disruption caused by any errors or omissions in this document.” English wasn’t even my first or second language, so it reminds me of when I just moved to the US with my parents before my sister and I learned how to speak English fluently.
Now to be fair, some of my lower cost lights have the same brightness level as my more expensive ones, but the color reproduction for certain shades isn’t as nice in certain cases. There have been two incredible exceptions that have floored me and made me return, or sell my more expensive equivalent lights in favor of their far cheaper alternatives. The “LaluceNatz 20 In 25W 108LEDs RGB Wash Light Bar” has exceptional color reproduction and light blending. It works best when it’s very dark though, but the results are stunning when it’s dark enough. It also has a sturdy metal casing, despite lacking the remote functionality that my other light had, it’s easy to use, and it’s auto fade mode is beautiful.
The other cost effective surprise I’ve been using as a backup for my dual second generation ADJ Stingers is the “DJ Lights,SAHAUHY 2 in 1 Professional Stage Light Mixed Effect Sound Activate.” This one not only comes with a remote, but it has a very good sound activated mode for the price. The most impressive thing however is how the red and green laser lights, as well as the derby effect LED lights, are actually brighter than my original gen 1 ADJ Stinger. It also looks incredibly professional sitting on top of my low cost Rockville DJ Totems. When it comes to speakers, while I use the superb Rockville Hydraulic Speaker Stands, Skrims, Dj Facade, Fog Machine, Totems and their included bags, my speakers and other gear are all either EV or QSC and Numark. I think with anything, you have to balance the gear that you can get very good knockoffs of, such as par lights, derby lights and lighting strips, with one or two ADJ or Chauvet lights, and high quality speakers, mixers and actual DJ gear.
This video was very informative, and to the point. Thanks for taking the time to make it! I have a lot of event lights and didn’t want to spend a lot for a DMX controller, but wanted to program my moving head lights to only face the dance floor for a wedding event. It didn’t make much sense to buy an expensive controller for such a basic function, and this video helped make my decision much easier.
Grabbing more of your time, Watching and Supporting!
I really appreciate it Ray , Thanks
You save my life 🙏 or at least my videoshot 😅 thank you!
Glad it helped . Thanks for watching .
DMX cable actually. Very similar to XLR but completely different purpose
Greetings brother, I'm so happy your tutorial made it big. Hopefully you can make more tutorials like this soon. I also noticed your Canon Wi Fi video has 50k, thats awesome
Thanks brother . Yes the Canon wifi one is doing well also . I still get a lot of questions on bothas well . It;s great to be able to help people out .
Very cool lighting controller device and great tutorial, too :) Happy new year! full view done happily :)
Bless you Anna . Thank you very much , Happy New Years to you as well .
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, I have the same controller but it is branded SoundLab. Will check your other vids to see how to add an additional light of the same kind, I hope there is somehow a way to copy the scenes from one light to another. Regards from the UK
Pretty cool. Might have to look into picking up one of those.
it works very well and Is very easy to use once you get the hang out it.
Its 2019! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Cheers from Australia!
Happy New Year from CANADA . Thanks for all your support.
Very cool product and review. Happy New Year! Hope our channels quadruple in size this year.
Best teacher ever
Thanks . Glad it helped.

Amazing review, I think I understand now what some people think when I talk about computers lol...Got my daughter an electric guitar and amp for her Birthday based off some of your videos...Thanks...Have a Happy New Year as well...

Thank you for your explaining ❤
You're welcome👍🏼
heads up, I just learned you have to keep "1" UP in order to make the red blue and such turn on. And if you want to add a light, you have to lower the "1" and bring it back all the way up. No video explained this, it took me an hour to figure it out. I thought the machine was broken.
Thanks Melissa for doing the work and figuring it out . This controller , and its copies , definitely have their quirks .
I'm really glad this video has helped so many and other have been contributing to the knowledge base .
Best of luck with it . Love your singing BTW .
@@PhilipCockram wow! Thanks! :) :) :) Maybe with your help (and similar videos) I can better get some lighting on stage. LOL! That's the goal anyway. Thank you for your work helping build knowledge.
Thank you for the tutorial! If I turn off the lights and turn them on again the following week for church, would i have to re-program the lights to match the board? We will be hanging the lights on the ceiling
You're welcome . The programming will stay in the controller if you shut it or the the lights off .
In fact , you have to do the factory reset to remove all the programming entirely .
@@PhilipCockram Awesome, thank you for that information.
Great unboxing thank you for sharing have a great night
Thank you very much . This thing is cool

Thanks for watching .

Right on . Nice to have some warm weather finally .Thanks for watching and commenting .
Fan-tan-tastic unboxing Philip 👍😎
Your awesome pal . Watched your channel all day yesterday . Have a great weekend
Very helpful, thank you !
thanks a billion!!!!
Thanks for watching.
How can I change the scenes manually on such a controller so that there is a smooth effect (fade)? It is obtained only when the program is executed automatically.
Looks like a fun unboxing! Great results! 👍😎 ~Maverick
Thanks Maverick. Have a great weekend
Hi Philip, thanks for this very helful video. For instance, do you have any idea about the DMX adresses for the scanners to the left? Of course, scan 1 is one, but I'm looking for the other ones. Many thanks in advance, and cheers from southern France, Mat
thank you! nice video and useful!!!
You're welcome!
I am planning to stream some music live and was wondering how i can add some gumption with some lighting. This will help me a lot. I'll buy one of these when I save some money and start streaming. Thank you for this video!!!!
It's lots of fun. Best of luck and thanks for watching .
thank you great video helped alot

Thanks you so much sir
Thank you for watching and commenting .
Thank you. Well and simply made.
Thanks you for watching and commenting .
i need to practise this. a good lesson. thanks
great job dear friend
Thank you
You can run this without a terminator for short runs or small numbers of lights, but you're right, it's a lot better if you terminate.
Thanks for watching .
Thanks for sharing. This was very helpful. I have a question on how to clear or reset the chase settings? I’ve used chase 1-4 and now I want to clear them and program a different chase color pattern.
Sorry for the delay . Thanks for watching
1} Press Program for 3 seconds until the LEDs blink
2} Press and hold AUTO/Del and the Chase button 1 -6 you choose , TOGETHER
all the LEDs should blink .
3} Press Program for 3 seconds to exit
You use the same method to delete a ,
BANK or SCENE Just press those buttons instead of the Chase button .
You can also reset the whole unit back to default settings if you .
Turn unit off . Press and hold Program and Bank Down
Turn the unit on .
When the LEDS flash it's been reset . Here is a copy of a manual . Maybe not the same brand as yours but should work . best of luck to you .
www.lightronics.com/manuals/sm192m.pdf
What does it mean if the address number on the back of the light (e.g. d017) is flashing rapidly when lights are daisy-chained?
Thank you this helped a lot!
Thanks , I'm glad .
süperdi bemde bugün 4 adet aynı par light aldım , dmx kontrol paneli ile ,deneyeceğim
I got a laugh out of an instruction book telling you to watch a youtube video lol
Yes LOL go on THE RUclips , Like George Bush saying The Google .
Awesome can't wait for mine
It works great

What does the Chase Scene Bank do? What to the values mean?
This was very cool 👌 nice review and video

That's a lot of channels it can run .like the led light also
Yes .......I can't wait to get the terminator to finish this project. Got everything work ok . just not synced yet .

Must be on the recommend list for DMX 193 Controller Unboxing and Programming
Light is pretty cool 😎 I like it. 🤠💃
Just waiting on my Arnold eeerr um Terminator to show up to finish the connections but I can use this and all the lights now as they are .
Awsome ty think i am getting it now 🤘😊👍🍺🍺🍺
Thanks for watching and commenting ! . Cheers
Thanks Philip! Is there a way to fade from scene 1 to 2 and back to 1? Without using a chase.
Sorry Mathieu there is not . You would have to do it manually .
Thanks!
Remember to use DMX cables. Not XLR microphone cables for lighting. Your gear will thank you for it.
Great Advice friend . Thank you
Can i save a chase to auto fade or do i have to adjust the fade everytime i change between chases?
You have to adjust every time with this unit 💃🕺🏻🎸👍🏼 Thanks for watching .
and when i daisy chain them even only to the second light the first pne turns off and can’t control any lights
Hi! Thanks for posting! Just got the exact same lights, but they dont reapond to dmx data. What mode did you have them in for this to work?
Thanks for watching and commenting . The lights should be set to d001 or p001 depending on the light ,
Do you need to use the blank terminator for moving heads?
Yes I think so . There needs to be something at the output on the last fixture so the signal stops . I would try it if you are having problems . They are very cheap . Thanks for watching .
So cool my friend god bless you
Thanks Dan . Bless you friends
I got a gig bar . The gig bar has DMs option of 3 channel , 17, and 35z. Which should I use?
Hi! Thanks for the awesome video!
Is there any way to nicely fade between scenes, but not continuous as demonstrated in video? (auto mode)
If I understand you correctly . Yes by adjusting the speed . It is very sensitive and I had it up high to demo for the video. Thanks Jaco
@@PhilipCockram Thanks!
Did yours power up without the DMX cable connected? I wonder if mine was faulty from the start..
Thanks for watching . Yes the unit powers up and can be programmed without any cables or lights plugged into it .
I have even moved cables and lights around while the unit was on and it didn't cause any troubles .
It does soundlike your unit is faulty .
Hopefully you can return or get it replaced .
