In California it effects only restaurants with I believe over 60 locations, independent , small chains, and restaurants will not be effected. What the market in those units unaffected will be is to be seen. I think stores will close and the big chains will dominate the smaller market. Read about the doomloop San Francisco and Oakland are in , this might push the state into that as well.
@RickW-HGWT: The 60-restaurant criterion counts the ones outside of CA, so a big established chain that puts in its first store in CA will be subject to the $20/hr minimum wage. Unsure if the escape clause for Newsom's friend who owns Panera can apply for any business that bakes bread on premises.

nobody is talking about the elephant in the room. How can McDonalds who can barely keep the ice cream machine functioning more than a day, be able to keep all these AI robots functioning ?
Ice cream machine is a designed failure to increase service contracts. This company looks like it will sell its own food.
Because they have had the money all along they are just stingy with money and don't want to pay workers more then they have to become it is McDonald's after all 🤦♂️ as far as the ice cream machine goes it's because it's an extra cost they have to shell out so my best guess would be they don't make much profit from it they spent way more on fixing it and possibly that's how the machine way designed.

But had tons of fun with friends. Some of those relationships still exist. How are the robots going to clean, degrease, and sanitize? 🍔🍟🥤
As a consumer, I don't mind knowing a robot made my meal, and not having to worry about someone behind the grill who's not following protocol or washing their hands.
Equipment needs to be sanitized and maintained, both procedures can easily be neglected.
When dealing with automation, if the machine breaks down then the store would have to close for the day until parts arrive.
Submitting a work order and waiting weeks for parts from China should be a fun experience. And it should be a real treat when the Windows or Android OS crashes or misbehaves.
They should have backup parts ready for fast repair.
My guess is that it is modular for rapid replacement. They are also probably utilizing digital twins to monitor the equipment and be proactive with repairs.
They keep saying AI but all this is automated robots that we've had in factories etc for decades.
Yes the robots themselves are not new, it's the computer that is running them. Things happen in the kitchen that can change or vary the cooking experience. The idea is that instead of having a program that just computes an "assembly" of peoples orders, it's an intelligent computer that can handle sudden changes. Sometimes the deep fryer get's a little hotter after it sits for a few minutes unused, the next batch of fries to go in will cook a little quicker. If a piece of cooking equipment malfunctions or stops working suddenly (however unlikely), the AI can compensate for that by reorganizing the food production. Or sometimes you have that customer that insists on completely customizing their order (like extra crispy fries or no salt on the patty), the AI can handle that too, and it remembers you, your order, and when you place the order...for the next time you come in. Which is pretty creepy.
@@AlextheHistorian Software engineer here and I don't see a drop of AI anywhere in this chain. All the robots run on precise code that doesn't change. Even your example of the oil being hotter is solved by a simple thermostat and code that determines how long to cook based on the temperature (not AI, btw). The facial recognition would be the only "AI" thing and that tech has been around for a long time now. The memory of what you ordered isn't AI either, that's just regular software. Unless I'm missing something, I don't see any true AI here.
They even have a shot of the grill accidentally dropping the patty it looks like… that’s human not AI!
The key difference between machines used until now and new ones based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) is in their ability to learn, adapt, and respond to various situations. Previously, most robots in factories were programmed for specific tasks with limited ability to handle changes or unforeseen circumstances.
AI-based machines, such as those in a restaurant making hamburgers and fries, can learn and adapt to different scenarios. They process data, recognize patterns, and perform more complex tasks efficiently, considering various variables. For example, an AI machine can tailor hamburger preparation to specific customer preferences or handle anomalies during cooking.
Additionally, AI-based machines can improve over time through continuous learning, making them more efficient and adaptable to changing needs.

That's not how facial recognition works. I mean hell, if you use any device that has a camera on it, it has the ability to scan your face already. You will always know when an ai makes your food because the fries will have extra fingers.
They really said we not paying no one 20 a hour lol
Good now the food should cost $2.99
In your dreams
I sure hope so
It should but it won’t the ceo will still charge you the same price and be 1000x your net worth
CA: We need to raise fast food minimum wage to $22 an hour.
Also CA: We replaced you with a robot.
BTW, Fast food companies were well aware of the wage increase, so looked into kiosks to replace workers. Turns out that not only did kiosks reduce the number of workers, but also customers ordered more. Good work, CA.
Paying no people to work means more money in the hands of a few. This is dangerous for society.
Better have backups to every software and hardware related item. One piece goes down and the entire operation grinds to a halt...
Really? Can’t find workers? haha. Doubtful
They just don't wanna pay their workers a living wage
They all left California 😂
Working at fastfood is a miserable existence, I could imagine it being hard to find enough people willing to suffer for it
white castle claims they cannot get people to run the fryers in the summer months so that is 1 reason why they have been installing mr. flippy since around 2022 without telling the public.
Imagine the response when you complain to a machine about receiving cold fries 🍟 🤔
Maybe I'd shed some tears over this if the average fast food worker wasn't slow, rude and stupid.
If they start asking where they could find John Connor, the restaurant is toast
Every interview for A.I. and robots is from Investors, Owners, and Customers. And how cute it is by Reporter.
We are so LUCKY, I can't wait till it's NATIONWIDE! No more worrying about someone spitting on my food or not washing their hands!
Seriously, I'd perfer this over people. No tipping (not that i dont like tipping), less human error, and less pubes in my food lol😂
Very pro corporate report. I wouldn't go there just on principle. Just like I never go to self checkout line.
Welp most fast food workers cant get an order right so ill take the machine that does it 100% the same way everytime.
You're going to starve to death if you live much longer. 🤣
It’s cool you are allowed to have tin foil hat on, good luck convincing billions to boycott automated food and self checkouts, wish you luck!
This will create new opportunities that people can't envision right now. It could also mean opening more restaurants with more job opportunities. These robots are only doing two jobs, frying burgers and fries that's it. And using computers to take the order, but that's already done in other restaurants.
No automated burger joint. No self checkout. Lemme guess, you don't change your cars oil either?
thats so great, finally you can buy a burger and fries without worrying about the guy in the drive through window making love to it before he hands it to you
What the hell kind of restaurants are in your town? Red State, amirite?
@@charleshamilton9274 yes, cause they only have fast food restaurants with drive through windows in red states
I've worked in many restaurants and have never seen any such thing
$20 dollars an hour minimum wage is what influenced this technology.
Some people don't know difference between AI and just a Machine Learning
Westlake in Daily City had a restaurant that had an AI making burgers. They got closed after a couple months because it wasn’t really getting customers after the novelty wore off
Interesting
Get rid of ai
Im surprised that the big burger chains have not done this yet. Fastfood is a monotomous work and can be automated.
So great without employee cost, the price need to go down 😉😉
Still have to pay for the investment. Robots ain't cheap.
@1:59 - All I know is, if you're putting that much salt on my fries, I'd rather have a robot do it.
That's cheese not salt
@@juanchocostone- Well it sure doesn't look like cheese to me ! Whatever IT is..
LOL!! Facts
When you increase the minimum wage to $20, it does not mean the workers are suddenly better paid. It means, there will be fewer jobs and more automatization because there is no other way to complete. Customers won’t accept higher prices just because workers get paid more.
No food has to be made with love
And in the world of fast food, it often isn't. Sometimes it's made with spite.
So close to frozen pizza served from the microwave. Only a 20% tip makes the difference and tells you that you are not at home.
The startup costs for restaurant like this must be insane. How expensive are the burger flipping robots?
EDIT: on second thought the restaurant probably leases or rents the robots.
Initially it was in the tens of thousands, but to make it more affordable in the QSR world, there is a monthly fee which includes all updates in maintenance. I believe it's roughly about $3,000 a month. I am a shareholder as well.
No ones wants this job. But what will happen once robotics will replace surgeons 😒
There already deployement of RC robot surgeons with assistants cutting open and dealing with human's organic hardware but is unlikely we gonna see the total replacement of human surgeon.
One robotical surgeon woulf be insanely expensive and prone to error and much expensive maintnance.
You can get dozzens and way more efficent and trustworthy human surgeons with the money for one robotical surgeon.

When a restaurant is fully automated by AI, I can do it better myself by making something at home. I have no reason to stop there.
When did automation get that really cool title of AI? I thought it was automation? Like an assembly line in Dearborn MI? Is that now AI?
AI hype is to catch naive investors 😂. None of this is “AI”.
