Just add the 900 HP, near 10k rpm engine from almost a decade ago, and we would have one hell of a product here. But, I guess 214 during a race was a bit much for their insurance..lol
Pretty consistent 31.5-31.6ish lap times by the looks. Most recent final practice in the 2021 car was around 30sec flat/180mph for long runs. That being the case, he was running around 171 mph laps. Around 5% difference currently. They are certainly slower, but I would expect quite a bit of this gap to close when the cars are a bit more dialed in to the tracks like the last generation were. Also I don't think 5-10mph is going to change the show much. As long as it makes the racing less aero sensitive, I think it will be good. *Also who knows what the team are even trying to accomplish in this clip.
They we’re getting roughly the same times out of 670hp on the Roval as they were with 750 in the Gen6. So with that in mind 550hp should be performing more like 610hp in the NextGen.
Anyone have lap times? Optically looks slow but not sure. If so, I’m glad I got to see track records broken in my lifetime cause I have a feeling they will be set for a while
@@jabber1990 you are right for most of the lap but you can 100% tell they are much slower when you see the car on corner exit. The time it takes for them to blend up to the wall is visually slow.
For anyone complaining about HP or lap times, NASCAR has accepted the fact that it's an owner's series, and owners will always air on the side of caution/preserving their cars/not caring about speed/lap records. It sucks for the sport, but it's basically the norm now.
Someone please explain to me how a night test in November helps a team in say the Coke 600? I'm seriously interested. I've been a fan since 1987 but I've never asked this.
They're not testing for a specific race. These are tests to help set the aero/engine packages for next year along with testing various tweaks they are making including venting for the cockpit, fixing a vibration in the steering drivers complained about at the Roval test, etc.
@@mindcrime828 I understand that part and the need as it is a new car. But they still do this sort of thing every year for the teams also. Even if the package hasn't changed at all in 5 years. And I know the 5 year thing is just about gone now but this has to also have some practical use for the teams. I'm just interested in knowing what that is. That's all. But thanks for the response.
@@Jdoom13 actually there hasn't been any full NASCAR tests shortly after the end of the season that I can ever recall outside the introduction of a new car. Preseason testing usually didn't begin until about a month before the Daytona 500, and the testing ban they put in place years ago prevented individual team tests. The practical thing for the teams is to start learning setups given the car has a completely different suspension.
This test is all about finding and fixing hiccups in the new car, giving drivers a chance to get use to them, and giving teams an idea of what to expect come season start.
It's just typical NASCAR. If it's not broke, fix it till it is. Not long they will be driving electric cars that can't go over 60 miles per hour. What is up with the numbers up on the front fender?
It's a lot more like the Gen 4 car in terms of handling from what I'm hearing. Cars have little to no side force like the Gen 6 had, so there's more chance of the cars sliding and spinning on their own, so it'll make the racing much more frantic and on the edge. I was getting 31.5 so yeah. High 30s, to low 32 sec range.
Not to exciting if the trucks from 2014 were faster. I just hope the racing is eventful.
Guys their testing not qualifying 😂
Put the Numbers back where they belong.
NASCAR needs to give out free Midol to all the guys getting the cramps over number placement!
And NASCAR needs to pay you for helping carry their water
Looks more like a street car than a NASCAR. Hopefully the racing os great.
MOVE THE NUMBERS BACK TO THE DOOR NOW!!!!!!!!!
Jackson Storm be like: "My time has come!"

Love the next gen Camaro
They grow up so Fast
Yes
Design peeve: the number not in the middle looks bad IMO.
Should have left the numbers on the door.
No off throttle time not too exciting
Imagine how good these next gen cars would look if the numbers were in the right spot. Forward number placement looks hideous!!
Couldn't agree more
Absolutely! Hopefully it’s a one year fail and they’re moved back just like the whole COT disaster
Add low downforce already. It's what all the real fans want. Do ld and 650hp and you would be fine. lol
Put he number back on he door . who ever is in charge should be fired
Hard to look at the car with the number moved up front, stupid decision!!!
they rid of it because nascar teams doesn't have regular sponsor anymore
You'll get used to it and before you know it you won't even care anymore
