@@morriselee I think you’re maybe underestimating how other people’s life stories can inspire people to think about their own lives and maybe make a change of direction - even though it isn’t necessarily copying it 1:1, they can still be moved to do something when they see someone they can relate to doing it. I know I did, anyways.

Another off gridder here from New Zealand. We swapped city life in a 320sq meter home for a small cabin in the bush three years ago. Best decision we have made. Beach is just down the road so fishing and kayaking are popular pastimes. We trade food with our neighbours and support each other as needed. It’s eatimated that some 65% of our regions population live off the grid. I don’t miss city life and all its convieniances at all. Our region is a tourist destination so we have great cafe’s etc if l feel like going out and socialising. We are planning on 2/3 AnB style cabins to tap into the tourist and music festival trade trade for income. I think people are fasinated with the concept of off grid living, so we can provide them with the experiance for a night or two while generating a small income for ourselves. That sounds like a great idea. Prices for an overnight stay is crazy. You may not know it, but if your price is 10% or more cheaper than the competitors - your offering will be very interesting.

I live on a private ranch in the woods in Florida. I have power, well water etc. Nice 3000 sf home. Decided to go 95% + off grid. No oven, stove, hot water, lights, air conditioning, heat, no washer or dryer. I think its fun, my family thinks I'm crazy. Am I? Fortunately I'm single and live alone. No one around to complain! I also slept on concrete or bare floors for years, to me the concrete was very comfortable. Girl friends and wives put an end to that in a hurry. Lucky me, all history now. Get to do me, not pleasing everyone else. Took almost 70 years to find peace. Nice vid. Thanks for sharing. Does your family think your insane too?
The best part about growing your own food is knowing what was put on it or in the soil. I've read that today the soil is so depleted that vegetables have on 15% of the nutrients that they used to have. But growing your own you can turn scraps, grass clippings and weeds into rich compost for your garden. I enjoy fresh home grown vegetables and greens from my own raised bed gardens. I've started working on a small greenhouse with an earth battery so I can grow almost all year.

Nothing more satisfying than building things with you own hand and mind. I’m 63 an thank my grandparents and my Mom everyday for teaching me how to use tools, plumbing, electrical. You are an inspiration, thank you for sharing your life. I would love to do this (but I would probably have cats vs. dogs). And I see living off grid still allows “date night”, good on you! ❤

I think it's not talked about enough on these off grid channels, how important it is to own the land you're living in, and the cost of that. Lots of people will never reach the escape velocity needed to even begin to afford their own chunk of land.

I love my outdoor shower. I bathe every night before bed. It's nice seeing the moon and stars while you lather up. I watched the perseids while I washed two weeks ago. Fantastic experience.
Thank you for sharing. My husband and I bought a small property in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He is currently building a small house 12x12 with a 5x 12 loft for storage and sleeping. We have a 1152 sq ft 4 bedroom 1 bath house on the property but worry about the future. We are wanting to make something with less of a footprint. I love the simple life you have created. We currently have chickens for eggs and we are preparing a space to get rabbits and goats for meat and dairy. We have a garden as well. Stay blessed!

Absolutely! Simple living is not easy. It's a lot of work. Any success is a lot of work, even in the city. I have come to the conclusion that whatever you do if you want to succeed you have to be prepared to put in massive amount of time and energy. But the reward is outstanding. It'such mire rewarding to work hard in the forest as opposed to in the city due to the connection with nature. Very inspiring video.

I can totally understand your stated motivations. Also I am SO happy to seeing your dog leashed when you go walking. I have seen sooo many youtubers lose their dogs to the most preventable things.
For every one person doing this, there are thousands who want to. It's not terribly difficult folks, you've just got to figure out the logistics for your area. Shelter, power, water, food. It's not that dissimilar from an urban home, you're just supplying these items yourself instead of paying someone else to do it.
There is satisfaction in doing everything for yourself, but I have lived this way before and it’s a ton of work to keep basic needs met. It’s also expensive to start out and maintain (most people who live off-grid still have jobs). So do it if you have a passion for it - but don’t expect that it’s an easier way to live, or that you can completely disconnect from social and economic pressures.
@@artlesscalamity Nah... it's easy. Far easier and massively cheaper than living in the city. I spend less time "maintaining" than I did just paying bills when I was in the city. Looking back on it, I overspent to put together my utilities (about 5k) that's water, gas, and electricity. Knowing what I know now, I could do it for half that cost.
@@chriswhinery Feeding a family only through farming, gathering and/or hunting is definitely not “easy.” Things go wrong all the time with off-grid spaces - maintenance, pests, water supply, transportation. Stuff breaks. You are never completely “cut off” which means you still always need an income. I’m happy for you that you enjoy it, my message is for other people who romanticize this kind of living. It’s not a vibe or a vacation - it’s constant work.

Wife and are building, hopefully in the spring of 25. We are going to be off the grid but with conventional appliances powered by solar/hydro power that we produce. Also using wood heaters and cook stove with hot water supplied by the woodstove during the cold months. The area we are looking at land in gets about four feet of snow a year is the reason for duel electric generation. We want to go small, two bedroom,ine bathroom and an open kitchen/living room area. My last off the grid house was a conversion from a conventional home. I will never do that again. Much easier to go from the ground up i believe. Some may disagree but thats my thinking.
I think this way of choosing to live is a natural reaction to dealing with anxiety and the feeling of wanting to have contol in an uncertain world..good luck on your journey
I couldn't agree with you more. I'm seeing the simplicity of LESS is MORE. Off grid living is the way to go. Growing your own food is 100% healthier than what is in the grocery store. At least here in the USA
I think the Spirit of God has been calling many back to the land and the old ways in order to quiet their own spirit enough to be able to hear His voice.

I have done this numerous times on boats and in cabins. There is something really alive about something you build yourself. My current stealth cabin is hexagonal and 4.2 metres point to point. I have never figured out what the ideal size is.

That is very true. With chickens, veggie gardens and fruit/nut trees to tend, things to build and create I can fill all the daylight hours every day of the week. Wouldn’t swap it for anything 😊

You're living the life. When I was doing this, it was always cool, but security was also always an issue. I had a false board in my living area. And a hide-a-hole in the loft. In the loft aka Bedroom was my 357-mag snub-nose, and whenever I left It went into that place. The board in the living area had the single barrel 12 ga. shotgun and shells. Neither were visible to the un-wanted. And I never even told my friends. 9-10 you get robbed or vandalized it's always a friend or someone who knows you. Rarely a stranger. Believe it or not...!!! I always had an outside dog, and an inside dog. A suggestion to you is invest in a trail camera. They have trail cameras now that send an alarm directly to your phone if activated. And any alarms are recorded and sent to your phone as well. Mine were at the driveway coming in and going out. And the other ones were watching the cabin and shed. So, if they got by the gate, I had their tag number coming and going and the make and model. And the ones at the cabin front and back were 20 foot up facing down So, anyone or anything was recorded. The ones at the cabin had a battery and solar panel , so I never had to worry about AA batteries ever again. Gave me great peace of mind, and paid off twice. Both times it was my friends who robbed me. Ask a police officer sometime 9-10 times it's always someone you know. I kept the extension ladder locked up as well. Hard to climb a tree 20 foot up lol. They range in price from $39.00 to $200.00 you can go cheap or good. But it sure makes a huge difference. At night you can pull up any of the cameras and watch live. Or if you hear a bump in the night. All trail cameras have night vision. And day vision. Peace brother.

My cousin went to doing drugs. No job, but still I never thought for a second, he'd ever rob me. But he did twice. Before We caught him. He knew the layout and where stuff was. I never once dreamed it would be him. And one time is all it takes to make you aware. And being aware sucks. But it is, what it is.

Absolutely! Simple living is not easy. It's a lot of work. Any success is a lot of work, even in the city. I have come to the conclusion that whatever you do if you want to succeed you have to be prepared to put in massive amount of time and energy. But the reward is outstanding. It'such mire rewarding to work hard in the forest as opposed to in the city due to the connection with nature. Very inspiring video.
I'm so glad I found this channel. We are doing something very similar on our land. We live in a village in South Africa though so we have animals and sounds of children al the time. 😊 so lovely to see other people living quiet, sustainable lives. New subscriber. ❤

For every one person doing this,
there are thousands who want to.
It's not terribly difficult folks, you've
just got to figure out the logistics
for your area.
Shelter, power, water, food.
It's not that dissimilar from an urban home, you're just supplying these items yourself instead of paying someone else to do it.
There is satisfaction in doing everything for yourself, but I have lived this way before and it’s a ton of work to keep basic needs met. It’s also expensive to start out and maintain (most people who live off-grid still have jobs). So do it if you have a passion for it - but don’t expect that it’s an easier way to live, or that you can completely disconnect from social and economic pressures.

Nah... it's easy.
Far easier and massively cheaper than living in the city. I spend less time "maintaining" than I did just paying bills when I was in the city.
Looking back on it, I overspent to put together my utilities (about 5k) that's water, gas, and electricity. Knowing what I know now, I could do it for half that cost.
@@chriswhinery Feeding a family only through farming, gathering and/or hunting is definitely not “easy.” Things go wrong all the time with off-grid spaces - maintenance, pests, water supply, transportation. Stuff breaks. You are never completely “cut off” which means you still always need an income.
I’m happy for you that you enjoy it, my message is for other people who romanticize this kind of living. It’s not a vibe or a vacation - it’s constant work.

Wife and are building, hopefully in the spring of 25. We are going to be off the grid but with conventional appliances powered by solar/hydro power that we produce. Also using wood heaters and cook stove with hot water supplied by the woodstove during the cold months. The area we are looking at land in gets about four feet of snow a year is the reason for duel electric generation. We want to go small, two bedroom,ine bathroom and an open kitchen/living room area. My last off the grid house was a conversion from a conventional home. I will never do that again. Much easier to go from the ground up i believe. Some may disagree but thats my thinking.
I think this way of choosing to live is a natural reaction to dealing with anxiety and the feeling of wanting to have contol in an uncertain world..good luck on your journey

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm seeing the simplicity of LESS is MORE. Off grid living is the way to go. Growing your own food is 100% healthier than what is in the grocery store. At least here in the USA

Using oil lamps for lighting and firewood for heating, natural water off the mountain or a running stream . God has been giving humanity signs that it’s time to change . And that time is now. If we want our children, grandchildren to ever see a future as it should be.

I have done this numerous times on boats and in cabins. There is something really alive about something you build yourself. My current stealth cabin is hexagonal and 4.2 metres point to point. I have never figured out what the ideal size is.

That is very true. With chickens, veggie gardens and fruit/nut trees to tend, things to build and create I can fill all the daylight hours every day of the week.

You're living the life. When I was doing this, it was always cool, but security was also always an issue. I had a false board in my living area. And a hide-a-hole in the loft. In the loft aka Bedroom was my 357-mag snub-nose, and whenever I left It went into that place. The board in the living area had the single barrel 12 ga. shotgun and shells. Neither were visible to the un-wanted. And I never even told my friends. 9-10 you get robbed or vandalized it's always a friend or someone who knows you. Rarely a stranger. Believe it or not...!!! I always had an outside dog, and an inside dog. A suggestion to you is invest in a trail camera. They have trail cameras now that send an alarm directly to your phone if activated. And any alarms are recorded and sent to your phone as well. Mine were at the driveway coming in and going out. And the other ones were watching the cabin and shed. So, if they got by the gate, I had their tag number coming and going and the make and model. And the ones at the cabin front and back were 20 foot up facing down So, anyone or anything was recorded. The ones at the cabin had a battery and solar panel , so I never had to worry about AA batteries ever again. Gave me great peace of mind, and paid off twice. Both times it was my friends who robbed me. Ask a police officer sometime 9-10 times it's always someone you know. I kept the extension ladder locked up as well. Hard to climb a tree 20 foot up lol. They range in price from $39.00 to $200.00 you can go cheap or good. But it sure makes a huge difference. At night you can pull up any of the cameras and watch live. Or if you hear a bump in the night. All trail cameras have night vision. And day vision. Peace brother.

@@ButcherBob I actually live way out in the country. Up in the hills they say. But that's the way it always is here. It's your friends or their friends that usually steal something. Or your family. My cousin went to doing drugs. No job, but still I never thought for a second, he'd ever rob me. But he did twice. Before We caught him. He knew the layout and where stuff was. I never once dreamed it would be him. And one time is all it takes to make you aware. And being aware sucks. But it is, what it is.
