- After three years of investigating and denials from three different law firms, the Guardian's David Conn has finally received an admission that Baroness Mone had an affiliation with PPE Medpro. The Guardian say that her husband Douglas Barrowman has also admitted involvement. The company received £200 million in contracts during the pandemic, but £122 million of equipment they provided was deemed not fit for purpose. David Conn reveals his findings to James O'Brien.

Bottom line:
1) This money needs to be recovered with interest
2) The fraudulent perpetrators need to be prosecuted
3) Governance and procurement procedures must be improved in relation public funds
In relation to point (3), you may find that sound governance and procurement procedures are already in place. Typically government ignores/ overrides the regulations when it sees fit.
They are way to wealthy to go to jail in Britain.

My daughter works for the fraud department of a local council and they look into things as small as falsely getting disabled parking permits where people get fines for these sorts of things. What sort of investigation will go into the legitimacy of people making fortunes from terribly PPE contracts and the people awarding those contracts

I was called up by my council because they found "two" names residing in my property while claiming Single Occupancy Discount. Turns out there is one version with my adopted English first name and my Chinese last name and another version with my Chinese first name, followed by my English first name, and my Chinese last name. I never used the latter version in all my dealings with the council or my usual life (including banking,) only when I do major things like applying for my passport. Don't know how my council stumbled across my other names. I had to send a copy of my British Passport to them to prove that I am the same person in either version. Of course, when you are robbing the government of 65 millions, you don't get any scrutiny.
If it was not fit for purpose then they should be able to retrieve the money and prosecute those responsible. Take away her honour.

They won't get punished, Borris got the minimum fine for attending multiple parties with put ppe or social distancing. While other people received thousands of pounds worth of fines over BS. During lockdown I watched the metropolitan police eat at places with no social distancing but would stop people on the street having a socially distanced conversation, I watched them ignore a group of 40 odd in a park, none of them from the same house hold sharing a sheesha, letting there kids run riot in a park, just to arrest a teenager smoking a joint hidden in the woods. The government of this country or the police adhere to the law, only the laws they feel to, but that will depend on the time.
She should be in prison and all of the others who ripped the country off should be in there with her .
The person who was delivering pizzas or working on side whilst claiming benifts, is the only type of person who goes to jail .

Ozzy, similar story from me. As a community practitioner, I was regularly in contact with people who had COVID. We were initially given face masks which were subsequently withdrawn because they were not fit for purpose, a little plastic pinnie and a flimsy pair of 'protective' gloves. Ultimately, me and virtually all my colleagues caught Covid.
Mone and all her cronies who were involved in this (what appears to be) fraudulent activity need to be arrested and face trial in a court of law. These parliamentary slap on the wrist investigations simply will not do😮

When Ireland needed PPE the government negotiated directly with Chinese suppliers and then sent a series of Aer Lingus A330 aircraft to Beijing to bring it back. No third parties ripping off millions, nor any need of them!

There is hope. In The Netherlands the state is actually sueing a man called Sywert van Lienden. As his position as a political lobbyist and commentator managed to secure contracts for many millions in PPE which turned out to be of sub-par quality and hardly usable. They are confiscating over 21 million euro of his personal wealth so you can imagine the huge profits that were made during this chaotic period.
But the government already knows, denies everything and does nothing.

Ah thanks for this update as I was wondering what was happening with Baroness Mone. Isn't it time that Michael Gove, who was in charge of the Cabinet Office during this period, is investigated. Talk about the power behind the throne.

David Conn deserves a huge amount of credit for his investigative reporting on Mone's connection to PPE Medpro.
MedPro insists the gowns were up to standard. The question is....How did MedPro secure these items when they were not even a business entity until after the lockdown began and who were their suppliers? I wouldnt agreed to supply a new customer when my existing customers, with a track record for paying, were crying out for orders to be fulfilled. Yet MedPro were somehow able to agree terms with suppliers and jump the queue in order to fulfill an order for tens of thousands of items. So, what I'm saying is, it just doesn't fly.
Unfortunately all that will come of this is the old "lessons have been learned and measures put in place to help in the future" until the next scandal. Unless there are some actual consequences to those that lie, break the law or are just plain corrupt this cycle will continue.

There needs to be equal attention given to the attempts to cover up what looks like illegal activity. This is not a one off offence but a major cover up that has lasted years, no doubt breaking several laws in the process.

"Mone has previously been criticised for her low attendance in the Lords, with a Sunday National investigation discovering she only attended on four days over a six months period."

So why did they deny (lie) their involvement at the outset?
Ironic that last night people were celebrating the failure of Guy Fawkes. He is the hero we need right now.
Guy Fawkes was the only one to enter the Houses of Parliament with honest intentions.
They should serve time, but they won't.
Something we need to know is after denying their involvement and the Government refusing to properly acknowledge or become involved in the situation, why now are they willing to admit that they were up to their necks with the Government’s schemes ? Also what if any part did the Conservative Government have to do with this admission ? Seems rather strange this coming out of cover at this particular moment , People on the streets is a lifestyle, The increasingly large amounts of protesters for Palestine against the conservatives supporting Israel? Plus various other deflection’s cascading down on a repressed citizenship , I honestly believe this Government ain’t got a clue how to govern the country but their wizards at frightening the horses so to speak , what’s going on ? What are they up too ?

Just issue an arrest warrant for these two and all ministers involved. All should explain before a criminal jury.
There needs to be prison sentences and all money plus interest payed back.
Why did they admit they were involved now? Do they know that the ordure will hit the air conditionioning soon? That the game is, as one could say, up?

If we become united, then that will change. Unfortunately that still seems a long way away. But people are waking up for sure.
Just watched interview with BBC , we made give or take 60 million, interests not declared, threatened press with libel, not named at Companies House, didn’t notify Parliament, a complete disgrace. They should be held accountable and at least pay the money back and she should be stripped of her title.
I would suggest that this admission indicates that a behind the scenes govt/HMRC/whichsoever Dept is responsible deal is being struck for repayment of a 'certain amount', a non apology apology and if done then no prosecution.

One can only assume that this vast corruption of tax payer's monies has been shared out amongst a few of those @ the top of the hill,hence,the reluctance to get to the bottom of it.
