I have read through a lot of the comments and saw a lot of complaining about the turbo runtime of 20 seconds. If I am out walking the dog at night, and I see something unknown, and I turn a light onto turbo in the objects direction, I can usually identify said object (dog, bush, person) within 2 seconds. For me an ultra bright "flash" mode that only lasted 5 seconds would still be useful. If its not useful to you that's fine does not mean they should limit the flashlight to 1000 lumens or whatever it can sustain for an hour.
Great review. I like the fact that the charging port is on the battery, inside the flashlight. You give up a little charging convenience, but you get better water resistance.
I use this as my EDC at work (Security). By far the best I've carried. I've read comments about charging the battery externally. Seriously? This is awesome. Buy another battery as I did and I have it in my tac bag. When I need to charge I just plug the "C" type into the battery and place the spare into the flashlight and I am good to go. The 4400 modes are just show offs to me. I like to hit those modes for bragging rights. I have it programmed in tactical mode. 1 click for battery meter, 2 clicks for Eco mode, 3 clicks for strobe mode and I have low mode programmed for long press. I have the clip on the other side on the flashlight directly opposite of the switch button. Can easily pull the flashlight out and the switch is right under my thumb every time. Thank you Nitecore! Would love to see an E4K Version 2.
Taure Grant I don’t watch NFL games anymore. It’s a long story but after a lifetime of being a football fan, I got fed up with the shadiness of that league. You’ll see me wear an NFL hat in my videos but that’s from a New Era commercial I worked on.

Man, I gotta hand it to you, you do know how to make a great review video. I've Subscribed. It does blow the mind that human beings can make such an amazing product and not have it cost an arm and a leg. The 5-year warranty is great though I do agree with you that 1 lumen moonlight mode is better than its 2 lumen. I will have to later on checkout the flashlight you say is your preferred EDC. Thanks much for making this video!
Hey man I appreciate your review, take my thumbs up! My current EDC is the Olight Baton Pro and like you said at the end it has great balance between size and brightness. Going from 2k to 4k+ lumens might be worth the added pocket bulk though!
Highly agreed on the Baton Pro! The strong tail magnet sealed the deal - I work nights industrial; so handy to just "stick it" to whatever metallic surface is nearby... Even goes to church with me in back pocket next to wallet!

I have a few Nitecores. HC65 headlamp, EC23 every day, and an EC4S. I like them all for different reasons. The thing I like about the EK4 is that it's got the power of my big EC4S, but closer to the size of my EC23. One thing I do not like about my flashlights is that I'm always fumbling to find the button on them in the dark. They are small and not raised or otherwise easily distinguishable. The EK4 seems to fix this with the square bezel around a big round button. Looks like it would be much easier to locate in the dark or from a pocket/bag. I would love it if all Nitecores had a recessed button in a magnetic tailcap. Great review, I like the sleeve for using other sized batteries (all of my batteries). I might pick this one up, I like the weight and power output.
I do food delivery and sometimes the night catches me and i need a strong bright compact flashlight where i can light up the customers house number and be able to take a picture of the food at the door for proof of delivery
Hey man nice review. I thought the interface was weird at first because you have to turn it off then back on to change modes. Then I realized from off you have direct access to moonlight, your memorized mode, and turbo. And when it's on you can jump straight to turbo if you need to. For the size this thing is a beast.
Brilliant, Nitecore gives the weight without the battery, or clip attached. Fine, take off the clip. But honestly who the hell is going to carry this or ANY light without the battery in it? No one, that's who.
Last June we went to Niagara Falls and we stayed at a newer hotel in Buffalo, big-mistake. Every morning we’d leave to go to the Falls we would have to drive by the methadone clinic, there were ALWAYS a couple of hundred people standing around waiting for it to open...😐
Great review as always. I’ve got the Thorfire VG-15 1070 lumens Flashlight. Have had it for about 4 years. Got it from Amazon for about £8. It’s got four modes of brightness, plush the strobe setting all controlled via the little rubber button at the base. It came with the battery and the belt clip. Terrific value and it’s still going strong. Battery lasts ages. If I didn’t have this I probably get the one you’ve just reviewed but it’s just so good. Best little torch I’ve ever had.
It’s a terrific compact little torch, 12.7cm in length, great grip, terrific illumination, about the same as the one in this review and it’s lasted so well. I did get a lanyard with it but I have no idea where it is now! Lol. I’m a Security Officer so it gets a lot of use. You have to take the battery out to charge it so that might be a an issue for some. It’s old fashioned in that sense.
My favorite edc flashlight is the Fenix LD30 and need to take the battery out to charge it. Not the end of the world but I’d still rather not have to do that.
Got mine today, this review helped. Takes a bit to get used to the switch, Once you get that down it is a fabtastic flashlight. Like the turbo mode. The strobe is very disorienting, even off a moderately reflective surface. Glad I bought it. I also ordered the Fenix PD36R. You can never have too many flashlights
Fenix E35 V3 is better 3000 lumens and only like 5 inches in length and 1 inch in diameter and actually stays in turbo mode for a few minutes before going down to high which is still a blinding 1200 lumens I recommend it to anyone looking for an extremely bright edc flashlight
I like some of the unique features of the light. But it seems marketed toward the lumen hungry crowd. I wish the light had deeper reflectors that would give a bit more throw while maintaining a good amount flood. I carry the e18r from fenix, only 750 lumens but the reflector really maximizes those 750 lumens!
Yeah man they came out with the new model 2000 lumens but you know what this is an older video but I think you got a great voice speaking voice for doing these videos you're very precise and on point thank you for sharing it man ordering one the upgrade I love the button on it that's what I like the most because at night time I could feel that button a lot of these flashlights have a smooth button at night time you can't see it it's a pain in the ass from going around to try to find the button because you always end up pushing the little rubber cover 😂😂😂😂😂

I was debating the removal of the battery to charge as a negative . There is a plus side , that being a visual on the battery each time and heat dissipation while it’s charging . The other is a good seal to water on the flashlight body without an external charge port .
I love this flashlight but the manual doesn't say how long the NL2150HPR battery that comes with the E4K takes to charge using the USB-C charging cable? Also on the Nitecore site it doesn't show how to order an extra charging cable? Mine should have charged by now but it's been on a USB power source plugged into a 110 socket? Do I have a bad battery?
Great review. You mentioned that Turbo steps down after about 20 seconds. Does the High mode of 1,000 lumens step down at all, or does it stay at 1,000 lumens for the full three hours? Thanks again.
@@Mappi75 yes sometimes it does have some issues were it would turn off by it self even when you barely turn it on for 3 ish secs then u have to keep tryna turn it on but it seems after a while it stops
i dont think so, this seems like a great light for a side switch though if you do want a similar light with tailswitches only, check out the nitecore i4000R
Remember when 1000 lumen lights were top of the line? Now you can get a good one for 25 bucks. The price for these will come down too, and that's when I might buy one. Or not, because I can't see a situation where I would ever need a 4K light.
So it seems this really is about a 1k lumen light. If the 4k level is really only usable for 20 sec or so at a time that's not terribly useful IMHO. (I mean that mode, not the light overall) This seems to be a common issue with many high output small form factor lights. They claim big numbers but when you read the fine print or watch a thorough review (thanks BTW!) you find out these impressive numbers are really only available with special batteries and/or for brief periods due to battery limitations or heat limitations. My current EDC is a ThruNite Archer 2A V3. Yes, it is "only" 500 lumens max, but it can actually run at max for extended periods of time. Well, a few minutes at a time anyway is the most I've personally needed and used it on max. Most of the time I have it on low/medium (17/75 lumens) walking the dog etc. But the times I've wanted/used max output I've needed it for 5 or 10 minutes at a time. I'm not really griping against this Nitecore - looks like a great light. I'll ask here though, are there any over 1k lights (preferably throwers or modest throwers) that are really usable at their max output and not in full-on searchlight form factor? I also have a ThruNite TN4A HI that works well but honestly due to it's girth I don't carry/use it as much as I thought I would. Just so you don't think I'm a ThruNite salesman or AA battery only guy I also have and really like a Fenix PD35 (18650 powered) and a Fenix TK35 I'm less enamored with. The issue with the TK35 is that at the highest output it is really only usable for a minute or two. Then something happens, either it has pulled the batteries down enough (dual 18650s) or heated enough that it limits - only it shuts off, it doesn't step down gracefully (the PD35 does). You have to turn it back on and rapidly toggle to a lower mode - extremely frustrating. You'll note though all of these are right around the 1k lumen mark. Still looking for that 2k or more lumen light, preferably with 18650 batteries, before I step up from my current crop of 1k lights... Thanks for the nice review!
My first ever item I bought from Nite core was a battery charger around 5 years ago. It lasted less than 6 months. Tried to get a new one from the manufacturer but no good. First and last item I will purchase from them.
😂 same thing happened to me I bought two - 4 slot nitecore intelicharger. One of them suddenly stopped working for no reason and the other is possibly still working as a result like you I’ve never bought anything nitecore again. I’m presently using a Xtar charger and it’s awesome and it can charge protected 21700 battery. Love xtar!
The Nitecore E4K looks like a very good flashlight. The best part of the light to me is that they include a battery adapter so that you can use 2 primary x CR123A batteries in an emergency, and even RCR123A batteries. This is a BIG plus. Olight are you listening? ;-) Nitecore calls this a two way clip, to me more like a reversible clip if one can re-position it. Can that be done Chrispy? My closest light to this is the Olight Seeker Pro2. It has a bidirectional clip so I tried clipping it to a bill of a cap. It may not be comfortable for standard use but it does work, e.g. if you needed hands free to change a tire or provide some medical care. Wimpy caps and hats probably won't. LOL. What I don't like about the Nitecore E4K and the Olight Seeker Pro 2 is that they both come in Crappy White (CW). I prefer Neutral White (NW) for better perception. I understand their may be efficiency trade-offs but I think, at least the flashlight manufacturers should specify the color temperature and if needed perhaps encourage the LED manufacturers on this issu. Chrispy, thanks for the review. I like the Spyderco shirt. :-) One of may favorite knives is the Spyderco HAP40 Wharncliffe Delica.
Nice review. I own another crappy light like that, olight seeker 2 pro. I deeply regret i bought it, its like i was blinded. I knew turbo is only 2 minutes yet i bought it.
This vs the seeker 4 pro would be a good review..cuz I have the seeker and contemplating the e4k. I love the seeker but it's almost to floody would be nice to have a little more throw at the lower settings
I'm not sure but a Tail cap light is a must for me. Personally tho I cannot stand how my olights and fenix lights have the tail switch but then I have to try and find the side switch in the dark to increase power levels. They make them too flush imo they should be raised to find it easier
Nitecore has so many different usage concepts between it‘s flashlights, really confusing. :( I really struggle to extend from my EC25 Cobra to another due to the necessary learning curve.
Pretty cool light, would definitely be a great night stand light. Totally off topic but what is that watch you are sporting?! Great in depth review. As always keep the videos coming 👍
I have the the really short run time on Turbo on the HC35 it's pretty pointless really, you may say also find there's not actually stepping down to High it stepping down to medium. to be honest they can boast as many lumens as they want but when you get the the light output you're paying for for like 20 to 30 seconds that's really not good enough, it's just a marketing gimmick it seems more and more Nightcore torches or flashlights if you will all about gimmicks rather than about something which is actually functional and useful real shame because I got the HC33 as well and that's actually really quite good.
Good review! This light is indeed interesting. I have Nitecore EA41 and HC30(headlamp). Great lights. But they have a very stupid feature I hope Nitecore will get rid of: while moonmode and turbomode have direct access they are still included in the memory. SO annoying and unnecessary! I tried to understand your description of E4K: are moonmode and turbomode excluded from the memory?
20secs in turbo mode !? I have just cancelled my order. When it says 30mins, i expect 30mins; so it's just a thousand lum light with a 4 thousand burst to blind people or show off ? Thankyou for the review.
@@ChrispyThings Nitecore should specify the step-down times. Olight does. IIRC Fenix does not on its page, but at least it does in its manual: fenix-pd36r-1-user-manual.pdf. I am not sure if Fenix is candid with their other lights. Adam, you are right to expect Nitecore to specify the correct details, but to expect a light this size to be able to remain in turbo mode that long is unrealistic. Chrispy, I came back to add that I think a 2 lumen moonlight mode on a flashlight of this size is probably reasonable, even though I understand the usefulness of a 1 lumen mode to avoid disturbing others. A trade off. It is bright enough to do a lot of tasks without having to go up to low. My neutral white Olight H1R Nova has a 2 lumen moonlight mode, I always liked that it was so useful, felt comfortable reading, and ran for so long at the 2 lumen level. For comparison the Olight Pro Seeker 2 has a 5 lumen level and the Olight Pro has a 3 lumen [yeah I know the spec says 5] level. A lot better than the 30 lumen Eco level on the Fenix PD36R. I have found the more diffuse the beam the more reasonable it is to have a slightly higher level for moonlight.
Chrispy Things I had one of those, too small of all things, it felt fragile. And I love fenix flashlights, a fanboy for sure. All I want is 18650, tail switch, bright af, simple controls, strong body and lens, good proportions, easy use with gloves, pocket clip (lens down of course 🙄)...soooo not much lol. 😁🧐
I want smaller for edc. Doesn’t get in my way. 1600 lumens and I don’t think it feels fragile at all. But I think I’ll be switching to the Olight m2r pro.
At around the 11 min mark you have a red arrow pointing to the time for Turbo mode which says 30 minutes with an asterisk, but obviously you showed that time is only about 20 seconds. So, is it false information on the box or is something else?
It’s what companies do. They advertise high lumens with a long runtime. The asterisk says it’s a combined runtime including step down. My test shows total runtime of turbo only.
@@ChrispyThings Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I have seen this all to often on products being sold via the internet. I guess "Truth in Advertisement" is an outdated concept. :((

I doubt this will stay on high for 3 hours. It probably starts stepping down toward mid after a short time.
Damn that thing needs a dual mode tail switch, hate side switches.
i dont think so, this seems like a great light for a side switch
though if you do want a similar light with tailswitches only, check out the nitecore i4000R
Then buy something else.....
Nitecore includes a lanyard, but where are you supposed to attach it? I didn't see an attachment point for a lanyard.
Tie the lanyard to the pocket clip provided.
Any tips on a flashlight with the same size and lumen (3000-4000) that can have the max output on for longer?
How should that Work?
E4K or Fenix PD36R/PD40R? Olight is great, but I don't like the charger. Thoughts?
Great videos brother
Lovely review. Does it come with a lanyard and protective sleeve like Ledlenser?
Nice solid review! I think I found my next light, thanks!
Wish they had a neutral white mode/ SST20 or Nichia 219c option.
Remember when 1000 lumen lights were top of the line? Now you can get a good one for 25 bucks. The price for these will come down too, and that's when I might buy one. Or not, because I can't see a situation where I would ever need a 4K light.
I need 1000-2000lumens wich one is good
So it seems this really is about a 1k lumen light. If the 4k level is really only usable for 20 sec or so at a time that's not terribly useful IMHO. (I mean that mode, not the light overall)
This seems to be a common issue with many high output small form factor lights.
Thanks for the in depth comment!
Its a good little flashlight🔦Nothing Spectaculer!!!! I own one it was given to me by my Dad, just hate the little tail end button switch.
Love xtar!
very very nice
The Nitecore E4K looks like a very good flashlight. The best part of the light to me is that they include a battery adapter so that you can use 2 primary x CR123A batteries in an emergency, and even RCR123A batteries. This is a BIG plus. Olight are you listening? ;-)
Nitecore calls this a two way clip, to me more like a reversible clip if one can re-position it.
Just take a Sledgehammer and Smash it and toss it in the garbage and forget about it and start over.
Just sell it
What good is TURBO if you can't more 5min out of it?
hello my friend nitecore e4k in high mode (1050 lumens) 3 hours 15 minutes continuous 1050 lumens? Or will it subside after a few minutes? Thanks
Out of curiosity could I use a TypeC to TypeC connector and charge a cellphone with that battery in a pinch?
Good question. I haven’t tested it but it could work. I’d test now but don’t have a type c to type c.
@@ChrispyThings does not just tried it
This vs the seeker 4 pro would be a good review..cuz I have the seeker and contemplating the e4k. I love the seeker but it's almost to floody would be nice to have a little more throw at the lower settings
Great video. But It feels like a bit of a waste that it can only hit 4400 lumens for 20 seconds :/
30 min 😉
Waste of money I buy mh12 getting wait by rain now it wont work.
Well that is enough time for a self defense scenario nd tbh 1500 lumens to 3k lumens is way more than enough.
@@suppression2142 true
@@suppression2142 I recommend a gun. Shining a bright light in someone's face is just annoying.
I wonder why they abandoned the tail-cap switch?
I'm not sure but a Tail cap light is a must for me. Personally tho I cannot stand how my olights and fenix lights have the tail switch but then I have to try and find the side switch in the dark to increase power levels. They make them too flush imo they should be raised to find it easier
@@Jacob_6420 I just made the same comment. The square bezel and bigger round button helps, but I want a recessed button in a magnetic tail cap.
To use for self defense the on/off switch might be best at the rear of the flashlight. Then you could also strike with it overhand.
Is it my imagination or do Fenix lights have longer run times then comparable Olights? If so, why?
Whats a good tac light that the brightness won't go down quick?
What's wrong with just 2 settings max 3,! 🤷🤦
Nitecore has so many different usage concepts between it‘s flashlights, really confusing. :(
I really struggle to extend from my EC25 Cobra to another due to the necessary learning curve.
Great review. What watch are you wearing?
Dango Dive 👍🏻
I like the power button on the end of the light.
Still dont understand why all the flashlights use a single button to control everything. Wish they would just make a analog selector to switch modes.
thats why i have the Fenix PD40R V2.0, the rotary switch is so much better than cycling through modes using a button, atleast in my opinion anyway.
Strange that in m ycountry it says it has only 3 year warranty.
I have the nitecore p05 great lights
Everyone outside of the US: "98 DEGREES?!?!?!?!? Oh wait.... oh, ok, pfew"
you can get the same distances from a 2000 lumen light with only having 1 led
Absolutely
Try the Streamlight Protac hl5-x it gives you 3500 lumens for 75 min. straight!!
What kind of watch u have on in this video ? Nice
That’s a Dango Dive with the leather band
Can we change the orientation of the clip so that we clip it onto our hat?
I just got the Klarus G15 and this came out! I will wait for 5K lumens next.🤣
Or get the TM9k for 9.5k lumens right now! It's a bit chunkier though.
Madman6505 nice one! I should go to my local store and have a look.
Be aware TM9k last 7seconds on turbo
@@ovieu522 thanks, I forgot to mention that. But what a glorious 7 seconds it is!
The Beacon mode is pretty cool .
Bravo
Good review! This light is indeed interesting. I have Nitecore EA41 and HC30(headlamp). Great lights. But they have a very stupid feature I hope Nitecore will get rid of: while moonmode and turbomode have direct access they are still included in the memory. SO annoying and unnecessary! I tried to understand your description of E4K: are moonmode and turbomode excluded from the memory?
Excuse me, can you tell me what is that wristwatch you wearing? Thanks.
It’s the Dango Dive with the leather band. I’ll be doing a video on all 3 Dango watches soon.
Great vid. I have a P30 and its great. Random unrelated question. What's the brand of watch you have?
Sorry. Just watched the video on the Dango. Rad watch. Cheers again.
I think is too complicated. I'm stick with the regular functions. My humble opinion as a regular home owner.
Héctor Nina hold down the button and it cycles through the levels, let go when it’s bright enough. Easy easy. One push on one push off. Not bad man
20secs in turbo mode !? I have just cancelled my order. When it says 30mins, i expect 30mins; so it's just a thousand lum light with a 4 thousand burst to blind people or show off ? Thankyou for the review.
I keep seeing this 30 minute time but I can’t get mine to last past 20 seconds. I’ve tried multiple times.
Adam Rant Exactly my thoughts 👎🏼 👎🏼
Knucklehead that little thing will melt at 4,400 Lumens for 30 minutes, it will turn into Ash knuckleheads.
Looks very nice, but I’ll stick with my PD35 Tac for now. I’ve tried to replace it for a year now without success, it’s too perfect.
I’ve been carrying the LD30 for a few months now. I love it.
Nice-light
