      Problem with that idea, is that you can't break blocks by hand like you can in Minecraft and caves are not as extensive. So unless you cheat yourself mining picks I don't see anyway to do it!

    I always liked near impossible challenges in survival games! It is always interesting to watch, which strategies people develop to survive. Also, there is option called Global Temperature, that allows to create even colder planet!
    I`m not entirely sure, how agriculture works in Vintage Story. Perhaps, you can put garden just under the skies and still get half yield. And who is Misha?

    • @Oscillascape
      @Oscillascape  8 месяцев назад +24

      No, nothing grows below 0 C, so you gota hit that or bust. It can dip below without destroying the plant but only up to plants cold tolerance. There is little point to make the planet colder, besides completely making farming impossible which will force you to hunt most of your time haha. Maybe I'll try perma winter Arctic one day.
      Misha is my brother that passed away from an overdose. He is the one who inspired me to do RUclips. We used to make videos together. There is one on my channel with him in it. It's pretty easy to figure out which one that is.

    I didn't like the first 100 days video, but this one for sure was better. The last one left a sour taste because at the end it sounded like you didn't really like the game and also seemed like you were applying a lot of Minecraft mentality straight to VS. This time around though, you seemed like you have adapted to VS a little better and apart from the fact that your windmills still look unpleasing, it feels way more VS, proving my point that VS is better if you don't compare it with MC. So yeah, much better this time around and you really impressed me by creating a huge ship with so limited resources through sheer perseverance.
    I'd love to see a modded arctic challenge without underground farming though. I think primitive survival feels much more VS than underground farming, so that would be pretty great.

    • @Oscillascape
      @Oscillascape  7 месяцев назад +4

      You are probably right about Minecraft mentality. It's hard to break. I am starting to understanding the game a lot better and its inherently limitations and working in the spirit of the game. There is a definite drive for me to min-max in my games and perhaps vintage story is best be taken slowly. Although I feel like iron tools are an absolute necessity for me. Other ones break too damn quick. I imagine getting iron will always a top priority. Regardless, I am glad you liked this one better. There will be plenty more and hopefully I can express my love for the game through the videos. It is a phenomenal game!

In addition to your settings, no mods, no map, 150% dmg modifier, snowball earth, worst class for the arctic (Blackguard for the worst ranged accuracy and high hunger), and he refuses to do cheesy things like 2 block hole.
      As a result he makes very little progress episode on episode, but it feels like true wilderness survival and is very entertaining.
      Although I will say yours is the only other Cold Start that I really enjoyed the whole time because it was in the spirit of survival. Surviving permanight was interesting. While I liked Pr1vateLime's series, I did not think it was in the same spirit.

    LY2 buddy XD
    nice run. but 100 days is not the point. i usually play like 3 ingame years to get to somewhere. in case of snowball. or wait. it wasnt a snowball in ur run it seems. so u can try. no any changes to survival. only icy world and snowball earth. so u start from kinda deep north. North is a Meteoric valley. its pretty ez to get lots of it there. idk if its rly better than blackguard, i just prefer meteoric chainmail. i also play 200 minig speed and 200 durability to make digging not that boring. i can recommend TraderCamps mod, cuz polar is a trading world mostly. also "fireclay from panning" and "auto panning"is fair enough imo. and i just got one interesting info. one guy checked 100k south in snowball world in creative and found pretty summer like landscapes there it seems. so am not sure what to think about it now. i was sure its a snow BALL, but maybe its not.
    for me challenging point was to grow a rice in the middle of frekin north. i dont use underground farming. only greenhouses.
    u cant do it first summer and temperature is not the most trouble. most trouble is sunlight. its getting dark too fast if u grow rice on not fertlilized soil. so u have to prepare ur soil and catch a correct day. also keep it watered 100%. the only way to get it grown with no cold damage ;)
    so i see it a pretty good challenge to put a base right where u spawned ish, spend like 2-3 years, collect like 300gers and prepare for big jorney to 100k south. i have a 2yers snowball world and am gonna check if its rly summer on 100k i go then =)

    I really like the video! Only thing I would improve is the way of narrating because honestly it sounds as if you were bored or annoyed. But maybe that is only my interpretation. I encountered that style of narrating in a lot of 100 day videos from different creators and always wonder why they are so annoyed all the time like reading a boring script :D

    • @Oscillascape
      @Oscillascape  7 месяцев назад +1

      Well that's just my voice I suppose. I assure you, I am not bored, but I am trying to pace myself. Reading 14 pages of script is tough, so perhaps I sound less energetic because I am trying to not burn my voice half way through. I am slowly improving in that department, my voice recording skills are probably my weakest point.

      Not according to wiki. There is no difference between the type of metal for lanterns, it's always 18 light level. You can use a liner to bump it up to 20.

    did you have the crops grow underground setting on

    • @Oscillascape
      @Oscillascape  7 месяцев назад +1

      Correct. You have too, otherwise you can't grow anything past certain depth and it's not very deep at all. Honestly it was probably unnecessary. I did not expect it to be warm enough at the North Pole, but I could have grown on the surface just fine, just a bit shorter season, but I also could have started earlier not having to work on the underground project to begin with.

    I wasn't nearly so ballsy, but my first run after getting an initial feel for the game was inspired by PrivateLime's Arctic survival run where I set monster spawns to 10 days out and spawned myself in the glaciers and my objective was to run as far South as I could until I was forced to stop before getting myself killed and resetting to spawn. It took me like a week and I even killed bears with flint spears before I had a home, but once I got to a biome with TREES and CATTAILS, I was absolutely hype. I actually made it all the way to the iron age (technically) until a mod conflict prevented me from cooking bricks to make bloomeries, completely cockblocking me from iron and steel. RIP decent runs, right? I'm currently about 1-2 weeks in a run and I already have bronze tools, an anvil, leather on the way, and I have about three times as much tin as I have copper to makes whatever else I want and I'm STILL waiting to see what exactly breaks everything and forces me to retire the run.

    • @Oscillascape
      @Oscillascape  6 месяцев назад

      Could you not disable the mod and continue playing? Sounds like a very successful run. As long as it's fun, it doesn't matter how hard it is. Some of my favorite runs were the hardest where nothing went my way. Update me on your current run once it ends!
