  • After conquering the Arctic in Vintage Story, I set on a sweaty adventure in the Desert. There are 99 problems: including crop failures, desert predators, nasty drifters, massive cave-ins and many other obstacles to overcome. Will I survive in the desert heat or succumb to this harsh environment. If this interests you. Join me, we have a desert to conquer.

    I imagine a hot temperatuure and heavy precipitation with dense foilage generation would make an interesting and near impossible to traverse tropical vibe.

    That was a fun adventure! I enjoy your dedication to getting an aesthetic build done AND getting to steel, all in under 100 days. I have my eye on the QPTech chisel mod. I will start using it, when I design my next build on creative. Thanks for watching! It's a little surreal to see you here, since you were the first Vintage Story creator I watched myself.

      @@Oscillascape :D I like to see what everyone else is up to, too! I highly recommend Chisel Tools. It literally makes chiseling like 20x faster, when you're doing projects with large amounts of similarly-shaped blocks.

    • @Oscillascape
      @Oscillascape  4 месяца назад +3

      @@Kurazarrh Yes, vanilla way of doing chiseling is a bit tedious. It's OK for one off creative piece, but if you need a lot of repeating patterns it gets a bit much. Not sure what mod adds but having a pattern selector like when you are doing clay and custom voxel brushes would be dope, along with an ability to replicate simple designs faster.

    Your initial trader shelter is exactly what I did on my first 1.18 game. Though I quickly learned bears could climb right over the 3 block high wall. Eventually it expanded to 4 high and the area got larger but I left the enclosure after building a house nearby, replacing the dirt with real fences since bears couldnt climb that and it provided a better view of the lake and forest for my best friend and survival goods provider.

    • @Oscillascape
      @Oscillascape  4 месяца назад +3

      I think there needs to be a penalty to hot temperature just like cold. Some way to cool off. Maybe by swimming in the water and becoming wet and a thirst mechanic. If VS wants to be a gritty survival game, that all makes sense.

    I'm still in the first few minutes of the video, but I had to post an "oh no" when I saw you cut off the tops of those saguaro cactuses... they don't grow back! You need to just hold right-click down on the fruit part that's on the very top of the cactus. Though please do correct me if I'm wrong and they do grow back...

    • @Oscillascape
      @Oscillascape  4 месяца назад +1

      You might be right about them not growing back. I didn't know about being able to collect them by hand. Also it's a real shame you can't uproot Saguaros to plant elsewhere. Should be a feature!!

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh 4 месяца назад +3

      @@Oscillascape It would be neat to be able to replant saguaro, but it wouldn't be realistic. They are apparently EXTREMELY slow-growing. So maybe planting & growing them like they're trees, with growth times on the order of redwoods, might be appropriate.

    • @Sarafimm2
      @Sarafimm2 3 месяца назад

      It would be great if VS had prickly pear cactus in addition to saguaro. In the right environment, prickly pear will grow quickly and create a ton of fruit. Had it in front of my house in California and we had some neighbors stop by every time it fruited asking if they could harvest the fruit. We got cactus jelly each time as a thank you gift. Good stuff!

      1.19.3 with a few mods. I'll post a list of mods in the description later today, but it's the same as my Plains and Valleys video as far as mods go.

    I don't really like the new hand models for the game, I think they take too much space in the screen

      I didn't like them at first and was wondering why you couldn't turn them off. But apparently it's because they will design combat around the new animation. I don't mind them now though.

      Fair enough. I am still experimenting with my voice and style that works. My narration can be a bit grating.

      @@Oscillascape An idea for the next challenge. Try to live in a world where 80-90% of the territory is occupied by the ocean. At the same time, the height of the world should be higher than 256 blocks.

    Fun Fact: Bones give you 9.0 N when applied twice to the soil. You have to grind it first into bonemeal

    • @Oscillascape
      @Oscillascape  2 месяца назад +1

      Says it only has 3 N per application on wiki. It's something, but almost not worth it.

      @@Oscillascape That is true, but when applied twice you get 9 N. With the primitive survival mod, worms are also a good source of passive fertilizer. They also produce their own passively. Meat when 6 or 9 can be tied int trussized meat and smoked for extra days. Fish meat also counts. Bushmeat can be cut into jerky which is automatically cured for extra days. Quick source of food for long day travels. Normal meats aquired from pigs work too
