the building used to be Yaohan shopping centre and have a times bookshop in it. I always go there in the 80s when i drive my kids there for dinner. There is also a shady arcade centre called abcb or something which was operated and raided in the 90s.

Many have explained the structure is due to the skating rink in the past. Many also recalled Yaohan but that was before I moved to Jurong (1999) but there was an arcade there and that's the only reason I visited this place last time (2001) accompanying my 3 godsons to go there to play 三国 machine, they claimed that it was cheaper to play there than elsewhere. Eye blink blink 20 years have passed. I'm surprised nobody mentioned the former Tang Dynasty City which was opposite the place cos I believe Hiap Hoe invested in this spot partly to target the crowd from Tang Dynasty (unfortunately only lasted from 1992 to 1999 after being "double-killed" by both Gulf War crisis and Asian Financial crisis). The soup looks damn impressive by both portion and ingredients!! Moreover, it looks so yummy! What a great deal! Jurong hawkers give larger portion in general is correct but I personally don't feel that applies to Boon Lay Hawker Centre cos this hawker centre somehow sell at higher price and smaller portions. I stay in Boon Lay area. If you are looking for larger portions, then those hawker centres or coffeeshops right at the industrial parks (e.g. Soon Lee & International Road) will not disappoint you.

The place where the food court and sheng siong is was a ice skating centre. Due to accident, it was shut down and John little took over. After a few years, yaohan took over. The KFC there has longer history than MCD. This place used to have a lot of ktv with xiaojie also. The boss of the soup stall used to have a Lao Er bakkut teh restaurant beside the hair salon, just closed a month ago. The soup i patronised for years already. To be honest, after eating their soup, i dare not try other soup anymore

The old folk home opposite the food court used to be Tang Dynasty. Before Tang Dynasty, it was the Jurong Drive thru Cinema. The building opposite Macdonald, used to be ntuc club. A similar big splash type of swimming pool used to be at Jurong lake garden then an entertainment joint with fishing facilities. All the old times entertainment then. Gold old days.
I stayed there since the area was built. Tang dynasty used to be nearby. There was kfc Burger King and McDonald’s. Now Burger King is gone. The kfc had a drive thru also. There was go cart. Football field Near there was even a DBS branch which had the biggest lobby I’ve seen. The area has undergone alot of changes.
Before DBS, it was occupied by Bank of America. There used to b a famous curry fish head stall opposite the hawker centre...they called it 1 号巴刹. That japanese restaurant Kotobuki has been around since day 1 n was originally run by a Japanese chef. The original jurong bus interchange was across the road, along Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim. My first job was in jurong ind estate in 1978!
