- It’s been a rough week. I’ve been sick all week and stuck inside my van. Even when I am sick, the last thing I want to do is get a hotel. In this video, I will explain why.

Over the years, l've learned you don't need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I've also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.

I agree with you in principle when it comes to being sick, you want to be comfortable and you want to be in a familiar space. So wherever your home is is where you need to be.
I would hope that you do get a chance to build out another van and even though it might be a small one, I'd like to think that it might be a little taller because standing up in a van, whether it's small or long is a blessing.

I stand up all day outside so I simply don’t understand the need to stand up in my van.
Sorry you were so sick Scott! And look at you making a video for us anyway - I mean for you too, but still. People telling you to get a hotel obviously have no idea just how dirty hotels are lol! Yeah, they look nice but they are never as clean and cozy as home. Glad you're on the mend, and thanks for keeping us in mind. Thinking of you, too!

I always look for your little chats, even though it's taken an effort to keep the show on the road, informing us all of your battle with the lurgy. I understand that you want to be in your van where you feel at home and have everything you need !!! I’m glad you’re better. I always make tea with ginger and lemon and honey when I’m sick. It really helps!! 💙
That sounds like a dreadful week! You've got a comfortable home in your van - of course you'd rather stay inside. While in my van visiting friends, they're often surprised I'd rather sleep in my bed than their guest room. Biggest laugh for me - your 77" bed. My bed is 60" long and quite comfortable (yes, I can stretch out, no room to spare)!

Tea is usually good when feeling unwell. I prefer a lemon tea with lots of lemon juice and a bit of honey in it. Peppermint is good also.
Glad you’re back to coffee, it’s the most important meal of the day. 😂

Few hours before leaving S'pore had street vendor chicken. Was 2/3 of the way through it when I noticed the chicken was raw. Too late...
6 hour flight to Fremantle was hell, deathly ill. Amazed Aussie immigration let me right on through. Spent 3 days in the hotel shitting liquid. No improvement. Called a taxi, asked them if they could prioritize me to the hospital. Taxi was there in 3 minutes. Aussie Doc told me to go home. Next day was much better.

One of the differences between a 3 Star hotel, and a 5 Star hotel, is an incredibly comfortable night's sleep. Once or twice a year, I check into a great hotel, and if I wasn't feeling well before I arrived, I sure was at time of check-out. Glad you're feeling better, and here's to tea!
Hi Scott, I totally understand you not wanting to get a motel/hotel room when you are sick. When I am sick, I just want to be in my space; specifically, in my bedroom. It is my comfort zone. Even when I'm not sick, I just prefer to sleep in my space. I don't like to sleep in hotels nor in other people's homes. I like my own pillows and blankets. Probably why I don't travel much. 😆 I'm so glad you are feeling better and I'm glad that your friend was close by and brought you some coconut water. It's so good for hydration. Take care, Scott. Hotels are a colossal waste of money. 1-350 or more for a few hours. Then, just when you settle, it's 11-12 checkout time. You've lost a heap of money. I could not agree with you more, Scott! Feel better, friend.
I guess there are some people who just don’t understand that when you’re little space is comfortable, you’re comfortable in your little space. My space is 6 x 12. Cargo camper.

I agree 100%. When im forced to use hotels, I bring a designated suitcase that carries my bedroll / pillow and disinfectants. 😊

East West home's best ..especially when you're sick! I totally understand about the hygiene aspect of hotel rooms. I never feel comfortable about it at all or sleeping on mattresses and pillows that other people have been on so I only do it in an absolute emergency. Awe, sorry you’ve been sick . It’s a big no for me and hotels,to many germs there . I want my own bed and pillow , and as you say … my own dirt . Nothing wrong with a little bathroom talk ,especially for those of us who travel or live in vans . 😊

I'm not gonna lie, I've always been curious about the "toilet" angle of living in cars/SUVs/vans. I can totally see setting up a bed and even a little cooking area in a large enough vehicle, the washing up seems like it could be managed a few different ways, but that one logistical detail seems like it would be a real sticking point! Full RVs have a release hose for waste that they can dump into septic systems set up at campgrounds, but now I'm wondering how little personal toilets like that get emptied and cleaned when you do a lot of suburban/street camping.

I agree 100%. When I'm sick, my bed in my home (minivan) No way am I gonna drag my stuff into someone elses room only to have to make sure all of it makes it back to my van. Take care Scott ❌⭕, Iris and Little One 👋🐾
I'd rather sleep in my "dirty" bed, than the kind of dirty bed in most hotels/motels 😇 only good thing about most hotels/motels is possiblity the shower, but you can get a cleaner shower at most gyms/ state park.
The cleanest motel I've ever stayed at is the bunkhouse 😇

Yes Scott I’m with you, when I’m sick I’ll stay in my own comfortable bed, and yes I hate staying t the hotel actually I don’t feel safe, uncomfortable I just don’t like it at all! I’m happy to stay at my own place wither it’s a van , camper or a trailer bcoz I leave at my rv trailer and I’m very very happy bcoz it’s my own home and I’m safe, happy comfortably living! So don’t mind about those people saying about hotel bcoz it’s not a home to me! So Scott be happy comfortably live in your own awesome home sweet home!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😍hotel room is not clean, it’s not safe and it’s not sanitised don’t trust anyone staying at hotels! It has bedbugs,dirty, smelly! I don’t feel at home at all!😢❤😂hope you feel better soon!☺️

Being sick sucks I had to call out but things are getting better

The next time you are at Home Grocers, go to the bulk section and pick up a bag of "Elderberries", "Ginger Root" and you can make a medicinal cold and flu tea or syrup. It's really good. If you want the recipe let me know and I will post it. Another thing that is ginger water which keeps you hydrated. Fresh ginger boiled for 20 minutes, then drink it every 2 hours with fresh lemon and a bit of honey. It will really help too.

The only clean hotel I ever stayed in was a Guest House, sorta like a Bed & Breakfast for a week visit to Germany ..It was the cleanest place I ever been in my life..There were down comforters ,called feather beds, like sleeping on a cloud ,,the place was spotless ,even cleaner than my Aunts house,which was always the cleanest house in my whole family, my Moms was ok too..Even named my YT channel, after Kassel Germany, was so impressed from my stay there.

I'm the same regarding hotel rooms. Ugh! The thought of thousands of people being in there before me just turns me off! And who knows how fussy the cleaners are...for all we know they might be about to resign and do a slack job of cleaning that day!
