    I love how much fun you had and how quickly you understood the puzzles! Hope you got a chance to read the translated manual, even if deciphering it yourself isn't your idea of a fun time - some of the lore in there is nuts!

  • @Lycanthromancer1
    @Lycanthromancer1 3 месяца назад +3

    This game goes so much deeper than you experienced here.
    Hell, there is a full musical language you can decipher. Several of the game's tracks have lyrics written in this language, numerous enemies actually speak in it, every single fairy (and the seeking spell) has its own unique dialogue in it, and every single time you find a new major item (such as the sword, magic dagger, magic orb, and every single one of the special golden items) you get a unique message in the notes being played. If you know how to decipher it, you can figure out ALL of that.
    It's kind of insane.
    Also, if you look in the manual on the items page, each type of bomb has a code you can input using the Holy Cross, and you can get one bomb of each type if you input the code. If you go back to the special Golden Path save on the Load Game screen, input the code for a fire bomb, set yourself on fire, and let yourself die, you enter a special demo room.
    Fun!
    Just...so much stuff. And there's so, SO much more than that. It's absolutely nuts.

    I love the fairy puzzles because it's supposed to be something you do over the course of the entire game, but it's so easy to completely miss. My first time I waited until last thing to start and hated it, but I've seen other people pick up on it really fast and do it as they arrive to new areas. It's just goes to show hoe open ended this game is with its information management.

      @Nat_the_Chicken 28 дней назад

      Yeah it's possible to break the intended informational progression by, say, intuiting the sliding doors and just trying that one crazy idea to see if it works. But very very unlikely without a tip-off. The way crow did it is the way you're expected to do it and the way almost everyone does it: discovering page 42 and then page 43 after obtaining Laurels, and gradually learning to generalize and find the patterns elsewhere.

Your gameplay was super fun to watch and you're a lot smarter with the puzzles than most people would be which made for a very enjoyable watch too haha! Thanks for the lovely ride and I'm so happy to see someone enjoy this game half as much as I do. Also, the physical manual is a staple of my bookshelf and so is the fox plushie; highly recommend buying both from Finji 👌.

    There's an interesting theory regarding the good ending to Tunic. One of the notes on a blackboard in The Library has a picture of an NES cartridge. It says, "The universe!" and "HOW? HOW? HOW? HOW? HOW?" So the world of Tunic is actually, canonically a video game.
    And the reason "Mom" cried when you gave her the manual was actually because she was the one who owned the game and manual before you, and she was the one who wrote all the notes in it, like a parent or an older sibling who plays a video game, spends time with it, and loves it, before passing it on to their child or younger sibling, who plays it and loves it just as much. Giving her the full manual reminds her of the love she had of the game and the nostalgia it gave her of her childhood, reawakening all of those memories. Hence the tears and her coming back to life (actually her childhood memories coming back).
    And since Tunic is both a real world and a game world (complete with players being a canon thing), this is kinda straddling the line between the gaming world and the real world both, as Little Fux and Momma Fux are both characters IN the game AND players OF the game.
    I thought it was fascinating.

    • @Nat_the_Chicken
      @Nat_the_Chicken 28 дней назад

      Yeah a lot of the "lore" and story of Tunic is actually kind of a reflection on how it's almost impossible for a gameplay loop to be accurate to a timeline that makes sense, especially with replays. "The thread is snagged into a squirming coil, with no beginning and no end," because time has to behave weirdly for you to be able to play and have fun.
      I do find it really funny that the Librarian managed to figure out he lived inside a game (the "canonical plane"), but without the right manual pages he couldn't understand the concept of controller inputs and thus never figured out that the Holy Cross wasn't an item. Truly a case of side character syndrome.

    • @Nat_the_Chicken
      @Nat_the_Chicken 28 дней назад

      They added combat difficulty settings in the accessibility settings menu specifically so that people could experience the game despite the combat being too difficult for them. One of the manual pages has a bit that translates to "options mean you can keep playing if the challenge is too much right now. You are allowed!!" I'm not sure if you never figured this out or nobody ever mentioned it to you, or if you just decided you'd rather not play than play with those on, but either way I think it's a little bit of a shame. Glad you got to see what you missed anyway.

    I'm a little surprised you didn't expect Dark Souls saving rules: constant autosaves will retain any progress and even slain enemies (until death), but also punish you for any loss of HP or items, and you cannot load any version of your save except the most recent.
    It's actually pretty easy to savescum on PC if you really want, because the game does keep a big buffer of those previous versions as files, so if you delete some in a file manager it'll just load the most recent one that's left. But that entails finding your Tunic save directory and pretty much violates what the game expects you to be able to do. Definitely a scummy move... if there were anyone else you were playing against. (As far as I'm concerned savescumming singleplayer games is a perfectly valid decision if you're OK with doing it.)
