Weirdly enough: my favorite moment of Zelda is in Skyward Sword, when Girahim grabs Zelda after killing the Imprisoned, and we get to see Link's face. I've seen Link's many different expressions, but I've NEVER seen him so pissed off, even in Wind Waker, against Helmorock King, he was focused, and in the moment, but never truly enraged, like he is in that moment. And it makes me emulate with him in that moment.

Honestly, most people say that twilight princess Link is the most angry, but Skyward Sword Link has way more angry moments, and has THE most angry moment in the series. Not even when Colin was taken was TP more angry than SS, and thats his angriest moment. TP was pretty kind the majority of his run, he just has one of those faces that make him look angry when hes not. (hes also the only Link able to pick up dogs and cats, so)

I think Midna's Lament also deserved a spot on this list or at least an honorable mention. Say what you will about companion characters, but this moment followed by the mad dash to Hyrule Castle immediately afterwards was easily one of the most emotionally crushing moments I've ever experienced in a video game.
Edit: Though, I will admit that the battle music playing over the song itself was a major break in emersion. Especially since 99.9% of players were gonna rush past the enemies anyways.

    • @GaudyGabriev
      @GaudyGabriev Год назад +2

Midna's Lament stopping for battle music may be the single biggest simple mistake in Zelda's history.
To have such a powerful moment thanks to that wonderful piece of music be broken like that was a ridiculously large oversigt.

Yep, same. I ADORE that scene! That whole exchange is amazing, and the EMOTION on Link's face right after Zelda encases herself in the amber?? Chef's kiss. 🤌
SS Link is the softest Link to ever Link and I love him for it.

Not me! It's the first game where the Master Sword itself starts as a lesser sword, which I find less fun than pulling the proper thing out of the pedestal and that feeling of wow, the Master Sword!

My favorite Master Sword scene isn’t even from a mainline game (which I’m kind of ashamed of) but it’s the master sword scene from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The music is the best it’s ever been and the scene of link holding the sword in front of his face is amazing. When I first played through that scene it felt like all the previous souls of link were giving power to this current hero. Something truly special.

Same. That “ah ha!” moment upon getting the final sacred flame and the subsequent “wow!” moment once Zelda bestows the final blessing and transforms it into its iconic look is one that cannot be replicated outside of a first playthrough. You didn’t just get the Master Sword, you forged it with your own courage, wisdom, and power.

For me it's when you leave Outset for the first time in Wind Waker. That moment so encapsulates the feeling of leaving your childhood behind. It works well too as you never go back to stay with Grandma and even go off to discover a whole new world at the end of the game and sequels! Heart-wrenching, impactful, and consequential.

I'm curious what everyone's iconic BotW moment is, since the open world and freedom means everyone's first playthroughs were very different. For me, the first time I saw a dragon is etched into my brain. I was running over the Lake Hylia Bridge, and I was like "what is that music? Why is it getting windy?" And I stepped on the edge of the bridge and just watched in absolute speechless awe as this enormous magnificent creature floated on by. I got so excited once the shock wore off - not really afraid, since it didn't seem to notice me. I just kind of ran after it, watching it until it finally disappeared behind the clouds. I truly felt like a kid again in that moment. It was magical.

Dude, that’s epic. My first encounter was epic and enthralling, as well. I was in the Lanayru Promenade. I had just defeated a slew of foes when the wind kicked up, the music changed, and there he was. This massive blue dragon flew overhead. I think my wife was in the room and we both stared at the screen and our jaws dropped. “Wow,” I said quietly. He scrawled across the sky and I stood there, slack-jawed and hypnotized.

17:00 Breath of the Wild. My first ever Zelda game. Through it I became a huge fan, learning all I could about the series, going back and playing older games. But I will never forget the moment you first see Hyrule. My jaw literally dropped, as I saw this beautiful world I immediately wanted to explore. The music ringing in my ears, feeling so inspirational and adventurous. That was the moment I realized I wouldn't stop playing until I finished, and the first of many moments to make the game my absolute favorite of all time. I don't know if it's iconic but one, if not my favourite moment in Zelda is the execution of Ganondorf in TP. I remembered the chill I had as a child when you realise that the Gods have never really been on your side. You fought for them for countless reincarnations yet they decide to grant the Triforce of Power to Ganondorf, "by some divine prank". It makes you reflect on everything: the fate of the Sheikah people and especially, Midna's words when entering the desert. Chilling honestly.

I think my favourite bit was when it finally clicked for me in Wind Waker that it was a sequel to OoT when seeing the stained glass in Hyrule Castle and then getting sad that all those characters are probably long dead. Some other bits I really liked were wandering around in the rain in ALttP, the end of the Anju and Kafei plotline in MM, finding Zelda's diary in BotW, emerging as an adult in OoT and finding redeads everywhere, adventuring with Marin in LA, Fi's farewell in SS, Kass' final revelation in BotW, the moment you realize that you can't fix everything in MM, finding places like the ranch ruins in BotW, the entire ending of TP.

  • @vcpinheiro14
    @vcpinheiro14 Год назад +23

The Master Sword scene on OoT had an impact on me on sooo many ways. First the "offering"of the hard-fought spiritual stones on the altar and opening that huge door under that epic Song of Time from the choir. Then the sword grabbing chamber and King Arthur moment. Then I was shocked and terrorized by the presence of Ganon and his words of victory, i went mad. Then the Sage chamber at the Sacred Realm felt like a heavenly presence. Then Link is an ADULT, i was so excited and couldn't cope with all the feelings and toughts at that moment, but i wanted to see right away what happened to the world. Then Castle Town was destroyed and inhabited by zombies, what a spectacular moment that i as a teenager then remember so well until this day.
Apart from this rightly chosen first place i remember that the Bongo Bongo's attack on Kakariko Village was very nice, scary and important by the first prolonged presence of Sheik.

  • @michaelalonzo9415
    @michaelalonzo9415 Год назад +13

This made me ponder on my own moment. I was a kid when A Link To The Past came out. I remember being awed by how big I thought the overworld was. I traversed across Hyrule, finding objects and overcoming obstacles galore. Then there was the bunny-Moon Pearl episode, which was a clue to what happened later but I was too young to understand. I remember collecting the three pendants and showing them to Zelda. Then, there was the epic collection of the Master Sword, followed by the murder of the priest and Zelda’s capture. Then came that first battle with Agahnim. It wasn’t easy to get to him, and being nine or ten, I hadn’t figured out all the mechanics yet, so it took me a hot second to figure out how to repel his magic. He started to blink (as all epic bad guys do), and I was sure I’d defeated the big boss. I mean, I had spent a month playing the game after school and homework to get even that far (by no means an expert at the game). When Agahnim unleashed his magic and drew me into the Dark World, I was flabbergasted and stunned. There were more dungeons, larger enemies, more weapons, and a world mirrored in darkness to explore. That moment was epic; I’d never played a game that flipped the whole script and turned a climax in such a fashion, and few have done so since, subverting expectations so much. I distinctly recall dropping my SNES controller, my jaw agape, and saying, “This is the most epic game I’ve ever played.”

I absolutely agree. This is one of the defining moments of Zelda that hooked me from the beginning. I love the 3D Zelda's, but this was 2D perfection. Also, actually getting the complete Triforce at the end of the game is a very rare event.

While I haven't played all Legend of Zelda games, you did a great choice choosing the moment for number one. As a kid, I would always watch my older brother play video games, (I did too, but it was fun to watch him play, which is also why I love watching RUclips lets plays when I got older.) and I'll never forget the expression of astonishment and bewilderment on his face as the cut scene played following that moment in the video.

When you pull the master sword out of the pedestal in SS, the game tells you to hold your wii mote upside down and then lift up as if you’re actually pulling it out yourself. I thought that was so cool, you physically act like you’re pulling out the master sword yourself, it was so awesome. To me that’s the best master sword pull.

Some of my favourite moments that aren't on this list may not be iconic but are so impactful to me, an obvious one being the end of Twilight Princess with Midna leaving, but also the end of A Link Between Worlds when Hilda sees their triforce reappear and nearly cries, it gets me every single time. One more is in The Minish Cap trying to race up to Vaati at the end with the bells tolling, especially when you fail to do it in time and the game ends because you simply cannot beat him anymore

I think for me, some of the top moments are bits of dialogue: the things Sheik tells Link before teaching him the warp songs in OoT, the questions the moon children pose in MM. But one of the most moving moments for me was when Midna shattered the mirror of twilight at the end of TP. That moment in BotW you featured as well really hit me hard too, just seeing the vast detailed world of Hyrule to explore with the music playing was magical

For me, I think the most favourite iconic scene is in skyward sword when link finds Zelda after going through the gate of time, after chasing after her the entire game.
The combination of Zelda's lullaby, the conversation itself where Zelda reveals hylia used her to bait along link, the fact that it's a callback to the scene of them on the hylia statue but with both of them awakened to who they really are, not much else gets to me like that scene does.

To me, there are two absolute iconic moments :
    - The arrival of the Four Giants in Majora's Mask : it's visually epic, the music is powerful and melancholic at the same time... this moment gives me goose bumps every time. I'll even go farther : it's (to me) the only time you feel that you are actually saving the whole world. In most of the games, while you know the fate of the world is at stake, it just feels like you are fighting a final boss, fixing a personal quarrel. In M'sM, you are litterally stopping a celestial body from crashing on the world!
    - Hyrule Castle in BOTW. This game is really long, and except for a few exceptions, like the divine beasts or the Yiga hideout, the majority of it is long and quiet exploration. Don't get me wrong, I love this game, but it does feel like it lacks rythm. However, when you finally get to Hyrule Castle, it's something else. The music and atmosphere are just epic. The diversity of places, paths and small puzzles make it (to me) one of the best dungeons ever made. It feels so interconnected, like the divine beasts, but at the same time we can see ourselves wander through different floors, rooms and outside places. And another element that makes this final dungeon iconic is the "crescendo effect". When you enter the area, the sky is kinda grey, you encounter a few guardians and pieces of malice. The farther you get, the more enemies there are, and the coulours in the sky turn yellowish and redish, almost like fire. The closer you get to Ganon, the more tense and epic the atmosphere gets. Added to all that, the feeling of satisfaction to discover new weaponry, and the fact that because the blood moon doesn't occur when you're in the area, killing enemies does feel useful, as they don't pop up again.

Generally, the latter part of that game, with the premonitions of doom some of the bosses give you. As a child, it felt like a real ethical connondrum: Was I even allowed to finish this game if it meant destroying the fictional world I was experiencing? Were the monsters right and I was being the villain? I think it took me at least a week or so to decide to keep playing, and it still felt wrong until watching the closing sequence of the game.

Wow! I’m so impressed you could choose a hierarchy toward the end.
Coming out of the Shrine of Resurrection is hands down one of the most memorable Zelda moments for me. But interestingly enough, some of the most impactful scenes come from my first ever Zelda game: Twilight Princess. This is almost certainly because it was my first experience of Zelda, but my goodness. Galloping Epona across the bridge, jousting style, to save Colin. Fighting off enemies while Telma guides her horse and wagon to Kakariko. Racing over the fields of Hyrule in wolf form to save Midna (Midna’s Lament playing the whole time as the rain pours down). Breaking the dark curse on Link and taking up the Master Sword. Battling a dragon?! And seeing tall Midna stand up after the epic boss fight. Amazing. All of it!
Though I have to give a shout out to Skyward Sword Link’s expressiveness. I especially love the iconic scene where he turns to face Ghirahim’s hordes. And one last shout out to the Breath of the Wild memories. I know it wasn’t everyone’s favorite style, but coming across the memories as I played was so impactful to me. And the final memory of Zelda awakening her power? Still fills my heart. And the whole story makes the moment when the Champions unleash the power of their divine beasts on Calamity Ganon so satisfying.
Okay, wow, that was a lot of text. I could go on and on. Zelda games just hit different. ❤

The scene where Link and Midna reach the Gerudo desert in TP. There's something of a bond of trust and will to right what is wrong in the world, with Midna's new found care in the real of light. It feels like the first moment you can tell she trusts Link and he trusts her. That's just one I've felt that catches my attention everytime I play the game, even though it's not so inherently amazing

In Botw the whole Mipha chapter just broke me because I never really realized that the champions were indeed dead and I always hoped that there was still a chance to save her, Vah Ruta was my first devine beast and when i talked with all the npc in the zora domain I became really interested in her character. You had all the dialogues, the revelation that she was in love with Link the memory, the encounter with the lynel (I had not a single thunder arrow) and then the fight with Vah Ruta was epic as hell, the music, the atmosphere, the rain, the darkness, the story, the slowmotion arrowshooting after swimming up a friggin waterfall was such an epic combo.
Then I entered the devine beast and heard Miphas voice and I was like "Yes shes alive!"... played through the dungeon and then reached waterblight. During that scene Mipha actually said that she died but I was too focused on the boss cause I had no idea what to expect... after a hard battle the cutscene played and there she stood infront of me as a ghost... I was devastated. She always protected others, she always healed the ones around her, for 100years she only thought about the other and if they were doing well, she thought of Link... and on the other hand Link just forgot about her. I had to take a break after that, I was actually crying which was the absolute first time I cried in a video game (before Spiritfarer though)

First, I've been a fan for what feels like a really, really long time: This video, for some reason, is a perfect storm of feeling and production value. I know what you're thinking: it's just a Top 10 video to fill the space between now and when we get to finally play Tears of The Kingdom (now out for quite a while, which I've been finally playing). Simply put, I can't say whether it's your best video, but I'm struggling to recall the last time one of your videos made me feel something quite this way. It might help that there's an overarching theme of what these games were all about and why we fell in love with them.
Second, I wanted to make an honorable mention of my own that dovetails nicely to your entry on Demise's Curse. It makes me unexpectedly emotional every time I think of it. You are playing with Fi throughout the entire game. Like a Navi redo that is less annoying, she's providing you analytical data while occasionally throwing out more human responses as time passes. Then she wallops you at the end of the game before sealing herself away - forever - with the Master Sword with this final quote - the culmination of the time sunk with an entity that, before you knew it, became - more than just your guide and partner in Skyward Sword, but - your friend, "I have come to consider the information to our time together among the most precious data I have on record. I do not have the capability to fully understand the human spirit. But now, at the end of my journey with you, as I prepare to sleep within the Master Sword forever, I experience a feeling I’m unable to identify.
"I lack sufficient data to be sure of my conclusion, but I believe this feeling correlates closest to what your people call … happiness"
    Every. Fucking. Time.

I have the puzzle complete jingle from TP set as the notification sound on my phone.
    A "cool story bro":
A couple years ago my family was having dinner at California Grill in Disney World, which is a really nice restaurant and one of our favorite places to go. We've known one of the servers there, Ryan, for yeeeeeears and consider him a friend (it's all hugs and catching up with each other every time we see him).
I had my phone out on the table because I'd taken a picture of my entree for one of my friends back home who was a foodie, and in the middle of the meal that TP chime went off because I had forgotten to silence it. Ryan was refilling one if the water glasses at the table when it happened, and he immediately perked up:
    _"Is that Zelda???"_
"Oh! Yeah, the puzzle complete music." 😅
"I have that same sound on my phone, too!"
    "You do? You play Zelda??!"
"I LOVE ZELDA! Twilight Princess is my favorite!!"
And then he and I proceeded to have a thoroughly nerdy exchange in the middle of a five star restaurant. lol

There are so many moments to choose from, including the first time you set out from the Shrine of Resurrection in BotW, to the origin story of the three goddesses in OoT. That said, I think one of my favorite moments is in WW during the last fight with Ganondorf. He's doing his huge monologue and then it pans over to the King of Hyrule with his hand on the triforce. There's this awkward pause, before stuff continues but the comedic effect gets me every time.

The opening of BotW: it didn't happen for me right at that very moment, but about an hour or so into the game I had the realization: "I'm playing my favorite game EVER for the very first time. I need to relish _every single second_ of this."
And I didn't mean favorite _Zelda_ game, I meant favorite _game,_ period. Up until that point that pedestal had been firmly occupied by OoT. _For 19 solid years._

Leaving the shrine of resurrection was the gaming moment of a lifetime for me. I was one of those miserable escapist kids that found Zelda back when Ocarina was the best game the world had ever seen. I hate nostalgia but I’ll always love this series for the rich fantasy world it gave my little suicidal brain to run away to back then.
Decades later I was content having retired those memories to childhood and not really looking back at all. My roommate had BotW and one day I just decided to check it out and see how good ole Hyrule was looking these days.
I couldn’t believe it. Running over the hill with that bgm to that epic wide shot absolutely floored me. When the title card dropped it felt like an unexpected, deep, and warm “welcome back” and I’m so grateful I lived to see it.

Your Majora's Mask pick is excellent focusing on that unnerving music and the final hours. That said, I would go a different way. To me, one of the most epic moments in all of gaming, much less just Zelda, is when after a whole game of cowering beneath that moon, you summon the four giants to step in and provide a miracle. Seeing the giants take position and throw their hands up to catch the moon is amazing because as it's happening its almost as if even they're not sure it will work, but then it finally stops and the weight of the game is both literally and metaphorically lifted.

I don't know if it is my favourite moment, but one of them is without a doubt when Girahim kidnaps Zelda at the end of the game and sends his army to stop Link. The look on Link's face... He is angry and determined. He's been through a lot to save Zelda. In the end, all Link wanted was to be with the person he loves. And every single time Girahim has ruined it. This time he is trying to kill her to bring back his lord. When he sends his armies he says that he doesn't mind if he rips their skin but Link's face says that he is going to rip their skin if that's what it takes to save Zelda.

From games I’ve played, pulling the Master Sword in OoT is the most iconic moment for me as well. As for all the games, I know it’s a spin-off, but I’d say a certain moment from Age of Calamity. When the tiny guardian is corrupted by malice and then destroyed by the player’s hand, the stage has been set. With its final moments it tries to comfort Zelda with Zelda’s Lullaby, which plays off key due to the damage. That moment feels like the moment where everyone’s resolve, already steel, grows ever stronger, and it is that moment that Ganon goes from just being the characters’ enemy, to your enemy as well.
