This sounds both tragic and foreboding. As if the lyrics was telling this man's sad story and yet is warning us because he is broken, something dangerous about his presence.
hes absolutely broken, he came back from the horrors of world war 1, especially what he did... fighting in the tunnels. He is already a dead man walking he wages a war against the world, And just against himself too.

I LOVE THIS SONG. THE WAY IT DESCRIBES PTSD AND THE SCARS A SOLDIER FROM WAR WILL ALWAYS CARRY. IT TURLY MAKES MY SOUL CRY.

I love that not even knowing the story this is inspired by, this song is still so evocative. It made me think of one of my characters. Catching up with my dad (I don’t see him much now since my mother died a few months ago; he had to put aside so much non-essential work) today, I showed him this song. He didn’t just listen to the first verse and chorus like he might sometimes, but the whole thing, and said, “She’s like a siren; that’s quite a spell.” He seemed so calm and intent on it, and considering how he’s been lately, that’s saying something.
I’m trying to pick writing back up; my Mom wanted me to get published. My last writing convention I got an offer for representation by an agent. But it feels… weird without her. She was always my first call, my first beta reader, my biggest cheerleader. But she always said my characters deserved to have their lives on paper, so no matter what happens to me in the end (I don’t enjoy good health), they can exist and their legends can grow.
I’m trying to write tonight, and have it set up so I can stay up all night to write (my most effective writing habit), and have been relistening to this to get into the chapter I need to work on next. I’ve envisioned it for 18 years and now I finally get to write it.
Become the Beast is the theme song for my villain, lol, and now the anti-hero has this. Return to Oz has the sad but defiant *feel* of my main character. 😅
I also play The Gloom EP on my keyboard at least once a week. The Dawn is one of the most impactful songs I’ve ever ever heard. Your work is really… you have a special talent, and I’m happy you’re using it. It’s much appreciated. You’re much appreciated. Keep that light shining.
Edit: My father’s also classically trained, and he loved the use of strings to make it almost a duet or a call and response in the song, sometimes in counterpoint to the piano. That and your use of vocal dynamics…. He really enjoyed them. He actually closed his eyes on the repeating parts to more fully listen. Usually sad songs aren’t his jam, but he WILL listen, when It’s art. Just wanted to add that.

You can almost see/hear his story in the text, what he's been through and what he's going through
Your music is always good... like without fail your music is always art and always profound and always beautiful...
But this is somehow even more so than usual. I don't watch the show, I don't know the character, I have no connection or relation to any of this lore and yet I felt every note and every word in every bone. This transcends this character/story in a way that everyone else can relate to it as well and that is truly amazing. The music is gorgeous and the lyrics are ingenious and painfully beautiful. I think this is my favorite thing you've ever put out - I am in absolute love.

Peaky Blinders is such an underrated show, it is very popular in UK but in the US people don't really know that much about this amazing show which is, in my personal opinion, the best tv show on air right now! As for Karliene she is also very, VERY UNDERRATED! She's got the voice of an Angel and all of her work has been phenomenal! It boggles my mind that Karliene is not super famous while hacks like Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and Kesha are mega famous for some weird reason.
