Everyone here quoting the inspector "men like us will always be alone" didnt listen to Tommy's line which is much more powerful "the difference between me and you is, at the end of the day I have my family" no matter how broken Tommy was he always had his family.
In the earlier seasons, I agree! He did what he did for his family and had them no matter what. I think after the Season 3 finale though, It was tommy who broke his family. There on after, they were never the same.

Except Arthur, the rest changed by the next season and became just as cynical and indifferent towards life. Only Arthur remained with him until the end. But we see in the last ep that "I have my family" was no longer true for tommy. He was going to die a lonely death all alone in some remote part of the world by a disease that killed his daughter and separated him of his wife.
He was the reason for Shelby family to be a family.

It's safe to say that the majority of people are here to relive an emotional side of Tommy that shed relevance to their feelings and heart. But to those who clicked because the title alone meant more to them than all silence they're going through on a daily basis.
Yes I got close, and 2 years after it all fell and collapsed, I lost her and there is nothing I can do about it but live through the pain and agony. Just like every man does sit quiet, drink and diminish into his dark thoughts.
One of the most dynamic characters in a show I’ve watched in the past 3 years sad dangerous cunning cold but oddly understandable you wish to see him triumph and smile but you know you never will Cillian Murphy truthfully brought this character to life for me fr ….
For guys like Shelby they only feel emotions when they are alone and it's fucking hard to deal with. Everyday and every moment it feels like things are falling apart. They can't stay happy and most of all they get reminders that they are not allowed to love.
