Just a word; quickly. Shawn was HUGE in the 90's in the U.S., I do not know how well she fared in Europe and England, but she was very "big- time" here in the states for about 5-7 years. Major radio coverage and etc... she did well. A tribute to her astonishing talent that she never wavered in her musical integrity and kept pumping out the brilliant work. She tours constantly in the states, i have seen her 5 times in last five years. Come to U.S. if you wish to see her.
I am a Londoner and had never heard her music on the commercial English radio stations or on TV because she was not a major commercial artist in England. Luckily, in 2011 I stumbled across her music on Amazon and now she is my all-time favourite artist. It is a great loss for British people that she is not popular in my country.
What a beautiful comment!!! If I had a buck I'd bet that it made Shawn weep...she';s worked so hard for so long touring touring touring giving us all her beauty and simple goodness....there wil never be another like the Great Shawna Lee Colvin...she is loved by millions of astute people just like you...yeah...there's millions of us that feel that way...God Bless You and your son for expressing this to her and for myself cause I like to know that I'm not alone in loving her too Love from Boston!
I wrote a story called My Idea of a Perfect Summer where this guy and girl meet at a posh resort with a big lake and jet ski rental. There’s a scene in the story where the girl and guy go rollerblading at the guy’s college campus. I imagined the scene with this song playing.
Hold me down to anything Anything that you see I should walk away right now I'll be there so never mind I'll be the one to fall Waiting for you to look up at me Oh I love you the most Always giving up the ghost In your own private conversation You're a sweet mystery There is nothing in between You and the Mona Lisa Nothing in particular And everything in between This is what you mean to me Only you and only me Climbing in the right direction On the way to everything We were walking up high And no one thought to try But I was the one to blame And it was just a mirage So I hid in the garage 'Til somebody called your name Oh I love you the most Always giving up the ghost In your own private conversation You're a sweet mystery And there's nothing in between You and the Mona Lisa Nothing in particular Just you and the Mona Lisa...
A pretty lady who wrote quite a few catchy tunes in the 90's... Great song, Shawn. I love the key change in the chorus. At least I can take comfort in knowing that people USED to write good songs.
Shawn's music is not the kind that gets lots of views, nor will she ever make the kind of music bands with 1% of her talent will make. But all of that is irrelevant. The bottom line is her music is art and she has a very devoted following. In the end, isn't that what is the most important?
Here is one example of the RUclips experience; Shawn Colvin in this video is gorgeous, the song is sweet and beautiful, the video itself is a beauty. And yet, 29 K views only. Well, the number has nothing to do with what it can do to some of us. Dear artists: never consider the “number” as being the main yardstick for appreciation. What you have done here, Shawn Colvin, has been not only appreciated by me and my son, but considered to be a very important experience in my life. Thanks a lot!
So twenty years later I say to myself “I wonder if that music video Shawn Colvin shot in the market ever got released?” And here I am. She was in the Kensington Market (Toronto) for the day and shot some bicycle scenes in front of my residence. Those ended up getting scraped though . I was 18 and working in a clothing store. Good times!
Thanks ZZZZAS for your response. It moved me.Well,Love from Montreal. I come here often to listen to Her great song and, more, to Shawn's sound and image beauty. Merci à son oeuvre car elle est formidable et admirable!
Hey fellow So Dakodian! Your eyes are like my Aunts. Good tunes and love your voice and songs. Just discovered you on the tube, I'm so lame. Keep up the greatness.
I discovered Shawn Colvin's music in 2011 and she has become my all-time favourite artist. In this song, I love 'It was just a mirage so I hid in the garage...'
This is a "Simpsons" reference. Shawn Colvin guest starred on "The Simpsons" in 2000 ("Alone Again, Natura-Diddly") as Rachel Jordan, a Christian singer whom Ned Flanders falls for after his wife, Maude, dies. Colvin reprised the role a year later in the episode "I'm Goin' to Praiseland," in which Ned builds a religious theme park to honor Maude's memory.
when I was starting out learning guitar, I managed to get hold of the official tab book of this whole album. The guitar solo in this song was the first I ever attempted to learn to play. And I still can't lol
DADBuRn it.. Shawn is Soooo dang cute in this vid! Also a Prime, perfect illustration of how Vital John Leventhal was to the success of this record.. his guitar, keyboard, Bass & mando playing are all FABulous.. as are his arranging & producing skills... This man is an unsung genius.
Besides loving Shawn Colvin, I dated a lady in the late 90’s that could have been a twin to Shawn. She was late 30’s and coming off a divorce. I was mid 20’s and the unwitting participant in a rebound relationship.
This (very underrated) song, is a real musical-gem.
Absolutely - the whole album is genius
Agreed...so is her song Trouble..such a deep complex yet simple...one cd always in my player
There were some really great songs from the mid 90s, this is definitely one of them.
Maximum Tyranny for sure
This and "Sunny Came Home."
It's a 90's classic.
It's hard to believe that this song is over 20 years old. I remember hearing it on the radio.
I played it for you
The perfect rainy day song.
Nice Telecaster.
I think that it's her best song. It's brilliant.

It's true!!!
One of the most underrated artists.....why? Brilliant songs, vocals and guitar playing.
Love this album

This song and video makes me feel happiness.
Shawn's songwriting is without peer.

Better days!
I love this woman, SO much. I mean agape, HIGH regard... Bless You, Shawn!!
There have been many terrific female vocalists who have honed their craft in Austin. Shawn is one of the best.

I've loved this song since it came out when I was 20. Such wonderful memories.
Absolutamente mi referente musical.
Cool video, also known as Me and My Firm Fine Butt-...OK, I'm sorry, but I HAD to say what dudes think when they see this! Great song too, Ms. Colvin.
I like this Girl.
Hold me down to anything
Anything that you see
I should walk away right now
I'll be there so never mind
I'll be the one to fall
Waiting for you to look up at me
Oh I love you the most
Always giving up the ghost
In your own private conversation
You're a sweet mystery
There is nothing in between
You and the Mona Lisa
Nothing in particular
And everything in between
This is what you mean to me
Only you and only me
Climbing in the right direction
On the way to everything
We were walking up high
And no one thought to try
But I was the one to blame
And it was just a mirage
So I hid in the garage
'Til somebody called your name
Oh I love you the most
Always giving up the ghost
In your own private conversation
You're a sweet mystery
And there's nothing in between
You and the Mona Lisa
Nothing in particular
Just you and the Mona Lisa...
'Nothing in particular and everything in between"
Great singer!! I'm discovering this album and it is amazing.
That's Chris Botti on trumpet.

Great song, Shawn. I love the key change in the chorus. At least I can take comfort in knowing that people USED to write good songs.
I think this is her best song ever!
I'm falling in love with your music. Tanks for this. A french fan.
Do you think that Shawn Colvin should dedicate this song to Leonardo DaVinci? He painted the Mona Lisa in the old days before he died. 😺
love your music.......speaks to the heart
Brilliant, as usual!

Lovely song and artist. Good music like this should get far more attention than it does.

Such a lovely tune!! She should sing this to Flanders.
